Labraunda 2017
It is possible to distinguish two types of votive offerings: offerings by transformation, which are everyday objects, withdrawn from the profane world to be offered ; and offerings by purpose, which are objects conceived to become offerings.Nowadays, the offerings by purpose are the majority in the French ritual landscape (e.g. the ex-voto to Mary in the Catholic churches). However, it is only at the end of the Celtic period, around the 1st century BC, that they seem to have become predominant on the territory. Unfortunately, the appearance of this phenomenon is still poorly characterized, as it is complex to identify. This article thus proposes to address the specific difficulties of the offering by purposeâs study in Celtic societies. After having recontextualized the appearance of these new offerings in the evolution of ritual practices in the Iron Age, the methodological problems of their study by archeology will be exposed, before proposing solutions to overcome them
International audienceThe âWarrior of Saint-Maurâ is a statuette that was discovered by accident in 1983 in the Celtic and Roman sanctuary of Saint-Maur-en-ChaussĂ©e,Oise, France. It is one of the rare metal human representations of the Celtic period. Its restoration by the C2RMF gave rise to a new study of its manufacturing, function and dating. During this analysis, a similarity has been noticed between the shield carried by this warrior and some miniature votive shields. The metric and formal comparison with the miniature shields found in North-West Europe invites to a new critical reading on the identification and function of such objects
BaĂąlons-Bouvellemont : un sanctuaire Ă dĂ©pĂŽts dâarmes miniatures ?
International audienceOn the BaĂąlons-Bouvellemont site, in the Ardennes, an important sanctuary has been discovered. Two phases have been identified (the first oflate Iron age and the second of early Roman period), with organized ritual deposits of hundreds of ceramics, coins, weapons and objects initiallyidentified as miniaturized weapons. This paper present the sanctuary and his deposits. Then, it will question the identification of the iron spikes formerly identified as miniatures
International audienceBy the end of the Celtic period, between the 2nd and the last quarter of the 1st century B.C., new types of votive offerings were placed in sanctuaries. These include enigmatic miniature weapons, difficult to identify and characterize. Yet they seem to have an important symbolic value asofferings by purpose. This paper will try to characterize this phenomenon by studying three Celtic ritual contexts from de French Ardennes : Acy-Romance, BaĂąlons-Bouvellemont and Mouzon
Le mobilier mĂ©tallique du sanctuaire protohistorique de Meaux <i>La Bauve</i> et <i>LâArpent Videron</i> : un faciĂšs atypique ?
International audienceIn the area of gallo-roman sanctuary of La Bauve in Meaux, almost 200 weapons fragment from the early La TĂšne period have been found.Swords, spears and shield elements are underrepresented. However, scabbards are particularly numerous. Only few elements give some informationabout the chronology. They point out the La TĂšne B2 period, which explain the difference between Meaux and La Villeneuve-au-ChĂątelot.âMiniaturesâ swords are also worth note. The question is: are they just functional object or symbolic one
Labraunda 2018
Administrat..
