Universal Dynamical Control of Local Decoherence for Multipartite and Multilevel Systems
A unified theory is given of dynamically modified decay and decoherence of
field-driven multilevel multipartite entangled states that are weakly coupled
to zero-temperature baths or undergo random phase fluctuations. The theory
allows for arbitrary local differences in their coupling to the environment.
Due to such differences, the optimal driving-field modulation to ensure maximal
fidelity is found to substantially differ from conventional ``Bang-Bang'' or

Implementation of geriatric assessment in oncology settings: A systematic realist review
Older adults with cancer are more likely to have worse clinical outcomes than their younger counterparts, and shared decision-making can be difficult, due to both complexity from adverse ageing and under-representation in clinical trials. Geriatric assessment (GA) has been increasingly recognised as a predictive and prehabilitative tool for older adults with cancer. However, GA has been notoriously difficult to implement in oncological settings due to workforce, economic, logistical, and practical barriers. We aimed to review the heterogenous literature on implementation of GA in oncology settings to understand the different implementation context configurations of GA and the mechanisms they trigger to enable successful implementation. A systematic realist review was undertaken in two stages: i) systematic searches with structured data extraction combined with iterative key stakeholder consultations to develop programme theories for implementing GA in oncology settings; ii) synthesis to refine programme theories. Medline, Embase, PsycInfo, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Web of Science, Scopus, ASSIA, Epistemonikos, JBI Database of Systematic Reviews and Implementation Reports, DARE and Health Technology Assessment were searched. Four programme theories were developed from 53 included articles and 20 key stakeholder consultations addressing the major barriers of GA implementation in oncology practice: time (leveraging non-specialists), funding (creating favourable health economics), practicalities (establishing the use of GA in cancer care), and managing limited resources. We demonstrate that a whole system approach is required to improve the implementation of GA in cancer settings. This review will help inform policy decisions regarding implementation of GA and provide a basis for further implementation research
Solitons in nonlocal nonlinear media: exact results
We investigate the propagation of one-dimensional bright and dark spatial
solitons in a nonlocal Kerr-like media, in which the nonlocality is of general
form. We find an exact analytical solution to the nonlinear propagation
equation in the case of weak nonlocality. We study the properties of these

Modulational instability in nonlocal nonlinear Kerr media
We study modulational instability (MI) of plane waves in nonlocal nonlinear
Kerr media. For a focusing nonlinearity we show that, although the nonlocality
tends to suppress MI, it can never remove it completely, irrespectively of the
particular profile of the nonlocal response function. For a defocusing
nonlinearity the stability properties depend sensitively on the response
function profile: for a smooth profile (e.g., a Gaussian) plane waves are
always stable, but MI may occur for a rectangular response. We also find that
the reduced model for a weak nonlocality predicts MI in defocusing media for
arbitrary response profiles, as long as the intensity exceeds a certain
critical value. However, it appears that this regime of MI is beyond the
validity of the reduced model, if it is to represent the weakly nonlocal limit
of a general nonlocal nonlinearity, as in optics and the theory of

Fermat Principle in Finsler Spacetimes
It is shown that, on a manifold with a Finsler metric of Lorentzian
signature, the lightlike geodesics satisfy the following variational principle.
Among all lightlike curves from a point (emission event) to a timelike curve
(worldline of receiver), the lightlike geodesics make the arrival time
stationary. Here ``arrival time'' refers to a parametrization of the timelike
curve. This variational principle can be applied (i) to the vacuum light rays
in an alternative spacetime theory, based on Finsler geometry, and (ii) to
light rays in an anisotropic non-dispersive medium with a general-relativistic

Fast Non-Adiabatic Two Qubit Gates for the Kane Quantum Computer
In this paper we apply the canonical decomposition of two qubit unitaries to
find pulse schemes to control the proposed Kane quantum computer. We explicitly
find pulse sequences for the CNOT, swap, square root of swap and controlled Z
rotations. We analyze the speed and fidelity of these gates, both of which
compare favorably to existing schemes. The pulse sequences presented in this
paper are theoretically faster, higher fidelity, and simpler than existing
schemes. Any two qubit gate may be easily found and implemented using similar
pulse sequences. Numerical simulation is used to verify the accuracy of each
pulse scheme
Collective ferromagnetism in two-component Fermi-degenerate gas trapped in finite potential
Spin asymmetry of the ground states is studied for the trapped
spin-degenerate (two-component) gases of the fermionic atoms with the repulsive
interaction between different components, and, for large particle number, the
asymmetric (collective ferromagnetic) states are shown to be stable because it
can be energetically favorable to increase the fermi energy of one component
rather than the increase of the interaction energy between up-down components.
We formulate the Thomas-Fermi equations and show the algebraic methods to solve
them. From the Thomas-Fermi solutions, we find three kinds of ground states in
finite system: 1) paramagnetic (spin-symmetric), 2) ferromagnetic (equilibrium)
and 3) ferromagnetic (nonequilibrium) states. We show the density profiles and
the critical atom numbers for these states obtained analytically, and, in
ferromagnetic states, the spin-asymmetries are shown to occur in the central
regions of the trapped gas, and grows up with increasing particle number. Based
on the obtained results, we discuss the experimental conditions and current
difficulties to realize the ferromagnetic states of the trapped atom gas, which

Waist Circumference Change is Associated with Blood Pressure Change Independent of BMI Change
Objective: This study aimed to understand how an increase in abdominal adiposity relative to overall adiposity is associated with blood pressure (BP) change. Methods: A sex-stratified mixed linear model was used to examine the association (95% CI) between annual changes in waist circumference (WC) and systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure, estimated from two to eight repeated measures across the 1993-2015 China Health and Nutrition Survey, among 5,742 men and 5,972 women (18-66 years) with no history of antihypertension medication use. Results: The association between annual WC change and BP change remained statistically significant but was attenuated after controlling for annual BMI change, regardless of baseline abdominal obesity or overweight status. Each 10-cm annual WC gain in men and women was associated with a 0.98-mm Hg (95% CI: 0.61-1.35) and a 0.97-mm Hg (95% CI: 0.62-1.32) annual increase in systolic blood pressure and a 1.13-mm Hg (95% CI: 0.87-1.38) and a 0.74-mm Hg (95% CI: 0.51-0.97) annual increase in diastolic blood pressure, respectively, independent of annual BMI change. Conclusions: WC gain may elevate BP even in the absence of BMI gain. BP management that addresses only BMI gain could overlook individuals at risk of elevated BP who have increased WC but not BMI
