Solutions to Cosmological Problems with Energy Conservation and Varying c, G and Lambda
The flatness and cosmological constant problems are solved with varying speed
of light c, gravitational coupling strength G and cosmological parameter
Lambda, by explicitly assuming energy conservation of observed matter. The
present solution to the flatness problem is the same as the previous solution

From Matrices to Strings and Back
We discuss an explicit construction of a string dual for the Gaussian matrix
model. Starting from the matrix model and employing Strebel differential
techniques we deduce hints about the structure of the dual string. Next,
following these hints a worldheet theory is constructed. The correlators in
this string theory are assumed to localize on a finite set of points in the
moduli space of Riemann surfaces. To each such point one associates a Feynman
diagram contributing to the correlator in the dual matrix model, and thus
recasts the worldsheet expression as a sum over Feynman diagrams.Comment: 27 pages, 3 figure
Binary Black Hole Coalescence in Semi-Analytic Puncture Evolution
Binary black-hole coalescence is treated semi-analytically by a novel
approach. Our prescription employs the conservative Skeleton Hamiltonian that
describes orbiting Brill-Lindquist wormholes (termed punctures in Numerical
Relativity) within a waveless truncation to the Einstein field equations [G.
Faye, P. Jaranowski and G. Sch\"afer, Phys. Rev. D {\bf 69}, 124029 (2004)]. We
incorporate, in a transparent Hamiltonian way and in Burke-Thorne gauge
structure, the effects of gravitational radiation reaction into the above
Skeleton dynamics with the help of 3.5PN accurate angular momentum flux for
compact binaries in quasi-circular orbits to obtain a Semi-Analytic Puncture
Evolution to model merging black-hole binaries. With the help of the TaylorT4
approximant at 3.5PN order, we perform a {\it first-order} comparison between
gravitational wave phase evolutions in Numerical Relativity and our approach
for equal-mass binary black holes. This comparison reveals that a modified
Skeletonian reactive dynamics that employs flexible parameters will be required
to prevent the dephasing between our scheme and Numerical Relativity, similar
to what is pursued in the Effective One Body approach. A rough estimate for the
gravitational waveform associated with the binary black-hole coalescence in our

Instanton counting, Macdonald function and the moduli space of D-branes
We argue the connection of Nekrasov's partition function in the \Omega
background and the moduli space of D-branes, suggested by the idea of geometric
engineering and Gopakumar-Vafa invariants. In the instanton expansion of N=2
SU(2) Yang-Mills theory the Nakrasov's partition function with equivariant
parameters \epsilon_1, \epsilon_2 of toric action on C^2 factorizes correctly
as the character of SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R spin representation. We show that up
to two instantons the spin contents are consistent with the Lefschetz action on
the moduli space of D2-branes on (local) F_0. We also present an attempt at
constructing a refined topological vertex in terms of the Macdonald function.
The refined topological vertex with two parameters of T^2 action allows us to
obtain the generating functions of equivariant \chi_y and elliptic genera of

A case study of infestation of Acanthaster pianci in Andaman waters
The starfish feeds on coral polyps and often plague of them are observed on many parts of the Indo – Pacific reefs causing mortality to vast areas of reef corals and their subsequent degradation. The species exhibits a wide range of colour patterns in nature, the common being violet with purplish or blue streaks on the middle of the arms or rusty brown or may be blue. A. planci is widely distributed in the Indo-Pacific from the east coast of East Africa, Red Sea, and then eastward as far as Hawaii. Acanthaster planci was observed at Grub Island, Chester Island, Alexandra Island, Red Skin Island and Twin Islands*.The reefs of Andaman surveyed are dominated by either Acropora spp. or massive Porites in different parts. The maximum concentration of Acanthaster was observed in Grub Island, nearly 50 m away from shore, in shallow waters. The mass mortality of corals observed at sites in the National Marine Park cannot be attributed to predation by Acanthaster. In deeper waters also mass mortality to corals was observed which might be due to many natural causes. Predation by Acanthaster might have played some role in the death of corals but this is not of an alarming state at present
Open-closed duality and Double Scaling
Nonperturbative terms in the free energy of Chern-Simons gauge theory play a
key role in its duality to the closed topological string. We show that these
terms are reproduced by performing a double scaling limit near the point where
the perturbation expansion diverges. This leads to a derivation of closed
string theory from this large-N gauge theory along the lines of noncritical
string theories. We comment on the possible relevance of this observation to
the derivation of superpotentials of asymptotically free gauge theories and its

Hamiltonian Formalism for Space-time Non-commutative Theories
Space-time non-commutative theories are non-local in time. We develop the
Hamiltonian formalism for non-local field theories in d space-time dimensions
by considering auxiliary d+1 dimensional field theories which are local with
respect to the evolution time. The Hamiltonian path integral quantization is
considered and the Feynman rules in the Lagrangian formalism are derived. The
