Ocean waves near Hurricane Josephine from SIR-B
Radar images of ocean surface waves near hurricane Josephine were acquired with the Shuttle Imaging Radar-B (SIR-B) system on October 12, 1984. Fast Fourier transform analyses of the images were performed along most of the 600-km image track. These data reveal the presence of at least two dominant wave systems which undergo significant spatial variations in wavelength and direction
Cluster of galaxies around seven radio-loud QSOs at 1<z<1.6: K-band images
We have conducted a NIR study of the environments of seven radio-loud quasars
at redshifts 1<z<1.6. In present paper we describe deep band images
obtained for the fields of ~6X6 arcmin around the quasars with 3
limiting magnitudes of K~20.5. These fields were previously studied using deep
B and R band images (Sanchez & Gonzalez-Serrano 1999). Using together optical
and NIR data, it has been found a significant excess of galaxies which
optical-NIR colours, luminosity, spatial scale, and number of galaxies are
compatible with clusters at the redshift of the quasar.
We have selected a sample of cluster candidates analyzing the R-K vs. K
diagram. A ~25% of the candidates present red optical-NIR colours and an
ultraviolet excess. This population has been also found in clusters around
quasars at the same redshifts (Tanaka et al. 2000; Haines et al. 2001). These
galaxies seem to follow a mixed evolution: a main passive evolution plus late
starformation processes. The quasars do not inhabit the core of the clusters,
being found in the outer regions. This result agrees with the hypothesis that
the origin/feeding mechanism of the nuclear activity were merging processes.
The quasars inhabit the region were a collision is most probably to produce a
merger.Comment: 15 pages. A&A, accepted for publishin
Non-renormalization of two and three Point Correlators of N=4 SYM in N=1 Superspace
Certain two and three point functions of gauge invariant primary operators of
SYM are computed in superspace keeping all the
-components. This allows one to read off many component descendent
correlators. Our results show the only possible corrections to the
free field correlators are contact terms. Therefore they vanish for operators
at separate points, verifying the known non-renormalization theorems. This also
implies the results are consistent with supersymmetry even though
the Lagrangian we use has only manifest supersymmetry. We repeat
some of the calculations using supersymmetric Landau gauge and obtain, as
expected, the same results as those of supersymmetric Feynman gauge.Comment: 10 pages, 20 eps figures, references adde
Effective pore size and radius of capture for K+ ions in K-channels
Indexación: Web of Science; Scopus.Reconciling protein functional data with crystal structure is arduous because rare conformations or crystallization artifacts occur. Here we present a tool to validate the dimensions of open pore structures of potassium-selective ion channels. We used freely available algorithms to calculate the molecular contour of the pore to determine the effective internal pore radius (r(E)) in several K-channel crystal structurss. r(E) was operationally defined as the radius of the biggest sphere able to enter the pore from the cytosolic side. We obtained consistent r(E) estimates for MthK and Kv1.2/2.1 structures, with r(E) = 5.3-5.9 angstrom and r(E) = 4.5-5.2 angstrom, respectively. We compared these structural estimates with functional assessments of the internal mouth radii of capture (r(C)) for two electrophysiological counterparts, the large conductance calcium activated K-channel (r(C) = 2.2 angstrom) and the Shaker K-v-channel (r(C) = 0.8 angstrom), for MthK and Kv1.2/2.1 structures, respectively. Calculating the difference between r(E) and r(C), produced consistent size radii of 3.1-3.7 angstrom and 3.6-4.4 angstrom for hydrated K+ ions. These hydrated K+ estimates harmonize with others obtained with diverse experimental and theoretical methods. Thus, these findings validate MthK and the Kv1.2/2.1 structures as templates for open BK and Kv-channels, respectively.http://recursosbiblioteca.unab.cl:2226/articles/srep1989
