Digital competences can be defined as the set of techno-pedagogical and communicational skills that allow teachers to function effectively within the educational contexts that new technologies generate. This research work was aimed to establish the relationship between the level of university professors’ digital competences concerning their gender and generation. The study was based on a sample of 613 professionals with an undergraduate degree, who came from different areas of Ecuador; they were the attendees to the "Training Program for Leveling Tutors using Virtual Modality" at Técnica del Norte University (Ibarra -Ecuador). This research applied a quantitative and explanatory approach where the non-parametric statistical test of Chi-square was used to corroborate the validity of the data; it was obtained from a survey applied to the participants in this training course. The results show that the level of digital competences is gender independent but generation dependent. Generation Z is the one with the best digital capabilities, with an average of 61.14%. Regarding the gender, a dependence is observed only with two out of five groups of competencies analyzed in this study; the cloud storage and the interaction of social network. The research line of digital competences is extensive, the results should not be generalized or extrapolated without considering the characteristics of the educators and the context, it is suggested to assess the teaching staff digital competencies, considering other types of demographic variables, so that higher education institutions can carry out a comprehensive training planning in digital skills

[EN] In 21st-century society, Information and Communication Technologies establish the ways of communication and socialization. The way we live, study, work, entertain ourselves, etc. have changed, and the patterns of social and economic development demand new skills from citizens. In Spain, the scientific and professional career called Social Education and their social educators, are responsible for promoting and facilitating the adaptation of people to society. Nowadays, these professionals must be aware that one of the fundamental competencies, along with others, is digital competence, and its development is a requirement to agree with contemporary society. This article presents the findings of a research that aims to be a pioneer in the field of study of Social Education in Spain and whose objective is to analyze the self-perceived digital competence of 452 working social educators and determine if demographic variables and professionals influence it. A quantitative, non-experimental, and descriptive method was used, with an ex-post-facto methodology, of a descriptive type in which no kind of treatment was applied to the object of study. The electronic survey technique was used to collect the information. For the analysis of the data, descriptive, inferential and regression tests were carried out. The main results obtained allow us to conclude that neither gender, nor age, nor the Autonomous Community influence the dimensions of management and attitude towards Information and Communication Technologies. On the contrary, professional variables do have an influence on the self-assessment of digital competence

Sin embargo, en el caso de polímeros naturales no se consigue una buena reso1ución de las bandas de los espectros IR debido a la complejidad intrínseca de la muestra.Peer reviewe

Box 10.52, 41005 Sevilla (Spain)The present study describes the pyrolytic patterns of a series of humic preparations obtained from a peat humic acid subjected to chemical modifications, such as methylation, oximation, sulphonation, nitration, amidation, ammonia fixation, acetylation, acid and alkaline hydrolysis, hydrogen peroxide treatment, etc. Some diagnostic pyrolysis compounds were found which can be useful in studying N speciation in humic substances. In addition, the noticeable differences in the distribution patterns of the alkyl series released upon pyrolysis were interpreted in terms of the changes introduced in the structural arrangement of the humic macromolecules.Peer reviewe

Involvement of executive functions, emotional intelligence, and study habits in mathematical problem-solving and calculation in elementary school

As mathematics is the most difficult subject for students from an early age, it is necessary to understand the underlying processes. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between calculation and mathematical problem-solving (MPR) skills with Executive Functions (EF), Emotional Intelligence (EI), and Study Habits and Techniques (SHT) in children aged 9-12 years. The study was carried out with 70 students (40 girls) from five schools in the Autonomous Community of the Basque Country of Spain. The results showed that MPR was significantly related to EF, SHT, and EI, while calculation was only related to EF and SHT, all this controlling the effect of IQ. Furthermore, MPR has correlated with a greater number of EF, EI, and SHT subscales than calculation. Along with this, significant differences have been observed in EF and EI depending on the level of performance in MPR, while in calculation the significant differences have been found in EF and SHT. Therefore, different neuropsychological processes underlie each mathematical skill, which implies the need for differential intervention with each of them. All of this through programs that encourage the mathematical learning of all students indiscriminately or that promote the development of mathematical skills according to the specific difficulty of the student.

8 pages, 5 figures, 2 tables, 19 references.Molecular indicators such as diterpenoid and triterpenoid hydrocarbons and steroid alcohols and ketones have been identified in the bituminous fraction of the lignite from Arenas del Rey (AR), South Spain. Diterpenoid hydrocarbons consists mainly of kaurenes and are indicati ve of higher plant contributions, specially from conifer resins. Triterpenoids consist mainnly of 17beta(H),21beta{H)-hopanes derived from recent biogenic activity which indicates the geological immaturity of this lignite and implies that it has undergone only a mild thermal history. Sterols consist of cholesterol, carmpesterol, stigmasterol and beta-sitosterol and their distribution suggests a possible phytoplankton input, which should confirm the geological hypothesis that this sediment had an estuarine or deltaic origin. Occurrence of stanones with the biological 5alfa configuration was also observed.Peer reviewe

Thermally assisted hydrolysis and alkylation of lignins in the presence of tetra-alkylammonium hydroxides

Three different milled lignins isolated from bamboo, pine and beech, corresponding to the three different structural groups, have been subjected to pyrolysis in the presence of tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH) and tetrabutylammonium hydroxide (TBAH). Pyrolysis of the lignins in the presence of TMAH releases the methyl esters and methyl ethers of the different lignin monomers. Several moieties bearing carboxylic acid groups, not previously detected using pyrolytic techniques, could be released from the three lignins, suggesting that the presence of these moieties in the lignin structure have been underestimated. The authors wish to thank the CICyT (Spanish Direction General de Investigation Cientifica y Tecnica; Project PB91-0074) for financial support.Peer Reviewe
