A case of solitary spinal osteochondroma growing from the left L4 lamina, close
to the facet joint, is presented. The tumor produced a stenosis of the left lateral recess and
the patient suffered from low-back and sciatic pain. Symptomatic spinal osteochondroma is
a rare beningn tumor, surgical removal being the most useful treatment
Placa cervical GD
The section of Implants and Surgical Equipment of the IBV has developed with the
Valencian company NEUROIMPLANT a novel implant for anterior surgery of cervical
spine. This implant displays suggestive improvements on the existing models in the
market. The development of this new product, based on the criteria defined by José
M. González-Darder (Service of Neurosurgery of the Hospital General de Castellón)
and supervised by him, has been carried out with the co-operation of Industrias
Quirúrgicas de Levante (IQL). It is a cervical plate incorporating an intersomatic box
and that solves many of the problems that the cervical fixation systems present at
the moment.LA SECCIÓN DE IMPLANTES E INSTRUMENTAL QUIRÚRGICO DEL IBV HA DESARROLLADO

Benign and Atypical Meningioma Metabolic Signatures by High-Resolution Magic-Angle Spinning Molecular Profiling
Meningiomas are neoplasms that arise from the leptomeningeal covering of the brain and spinal cord, accounting for 15%-20% of CNS tumors. The WHO classifies meningiomas into three histological grades: benign, atypical, and anaplasic in accordance with the clinical prognosis. Atypical and anaplasic meningiomas tend to recur. Sometimes, meningiomas with histological diagnosis of benign meningioma show clinical characteristics of atypical meningioma. In this context, high-resolution magicangle spinning (HR-MAS) spectroscopy of intact tissue from brain tumor biopsies has shown great potential as a support diagnostic tool. In this work, we show differences between benign and atypical meningiomas in HR-MAS molecular profiles of meningioma biopsies. Metabolic differences between meningioma grades include changes in the levels of glutathione. Glutathione role in cancer is still unclear, as it may act both as protective and pathogenic factor. Glutamine and glutamate, which are related to glutathione metabolism and have been associated with tumor recurrence, are also increased in atypical meningiomas. Other metabolites associated with tumor malignancy that show statistically significant differences between benign and atypical meningiomas include phosphocholine and phosphoethanolamine. Overall, this work suggests that the additional information obtained by NMR metabolomics applied to biopsies of human meningiomas may be useful for assessing tumor grade and determining optimum treatment strategies
Metastasizing anaplastic ependymoma in an adult. Chromosomal imbalances, metabolic and gene expression profiles
Ependymoma is a tumor arising from neuroepithelial tissue, occurring in both the brain and spinal cord, predominantly in children and young adults. While recurrence and dissemination are recognized complications, metastases are infrequent. The study presents a case of a 34-year-old man with anaplastic ependymoma, demonstrating recurrence and cerebral metastasis. Comparative analysis of histopathological, genetic, and metabolic features was conducted between the original tumor and its metastasis. Chromosomal alterations, including the loss of INK4A, were observed. Gene expression profiles revealed changes related to cell cycle control, differentiation, and various pathways. High-resolution magic angle spinning (HR-MAS) spectroscopy showed metabolic variations, suggesting increased membrane turnover in the metastatic ependymoma compared to the original tumor. The study underscores the rarity of ependymoma metastasis and provides insights into associated molecular characteristics
