    Lipid Peroxidation After Intracortical Injection of Ferric Chloride Increases the Incidence of Seizures in Young Rats

    Clinical studies have shown that the incidence of early posttraumatic seizures ishigher in children than in adults and it has been proposed that iron-induced lipidperoxidation has an important role in the development of epileptogenic foci. In this study,we examined some of the hypothesized reasons for the difference in the incidence ofearly posttraumatic seizures between young and adult rats. Twelve young and twelveadult rats were randomized into 4 groups. Group 1 and 2 were control groups, eachcomprising of 6 young rats and 6 adult rats respectively and were given intracorticalinjections of normal saline. Group 3 and 4 were injury groups, again comprising 6 youngrats and 6 adult rats respectively and were given intracortical injections of FeCl3. All ratswere observed for 6 hours post injection for the occurrence of seizures and were thenkilled. The injected hemispheres were extirpated and tested for malondialdehyde (MDA)level and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity as indices of oxidative damage. Resultsshowed that seizures were observed only in Group 3. Increased MDA level and decreasedSOD activity were observed in Group 3 (ANOVA, p<0.001). Increased MDA levels anddecreased SOD activity were significantly higher in rats with seizures (Group 3) than inthose without seizures (independent t-test, p<0.001). We conclude was that differentlevels of lipid peroxidation induced by intracortical ferric chloride injection may accountfor the different seizure incidence between young and adult rat

    Clinical Supervisors\u27 Experiences Addressing Age and Generational Cohort Affiliations with Counseling Supervisees

    Diversity of cultural identities, such as abilities, age and generational cohort affiliation, and socioeconomic status and the practice of clinical supervision are rarely addressed in the professional counseling literature. Subsequently, there is a need for a greater understanding of how expanded cultural identities are addressed by clinical supervisors in the practice of clinical supervision. This research study focused specifically on how age and generational cohort affiliation are addressed as a cultural consideration by clinical supervisors during the practice of clinical supervision. For this study, the Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis research approach was utilized to answer the research questions: 1. How do clinical supervisors experience addressing age and generational cohort affiliation during the practice of clinical supervision? 2. How do clinical supervisors experience addressing their own age and generational cohort affiliation with counseling supervisees? Data was collected through participants’ individual semi-structured interviews (N = 5). Data analysis of the participants’ interview transcripts exploring the lived experiences of clinical supervisors when addressing age and generational cohort affiliation as a cultural consideration in clinical supervision revealed three identified overarching themes: (a) feeling competent/incompetent, (b) feeling connected/disconnected, and (c) feeling respected/disrespected. Evident in the study is the gap of knowledge in the professional counseling literature regarding age and generational cohort affiliations and the resulting perception of clinical supervisors. Implications for future study include expanding the participant sample’s diversity and size to include missing voices in terms of cultural identities and explore the lived experiences of counseling students, counseling supervisees, and counselor educators with regard to their experiences with the cultural identities of age and generational cohort affiliations

    Kinerja Portofolio Optimal Berdasarkan Model Indeks Tunggal

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana kinerja portofolio optimal pada sektor basic industry and chemicals dan sektor trade, service, and investment pada Januari 2015 hingga Januari 2016 sebagai 2 sektor yang memiliki koefisien korelasi terendah antar sektor. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Perusahaan yang terdaftar di BEI dan tergabung dalam sektor basic industry and chemicals dan sektor trade, service, and investment. Jumlah sampel yang di ambil sebanyak 173 Perusahaan, dengan metode sampling sensus. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara observasi non perilaku. Berdasarkan hasil perhitungan ditemukan bahwa terdapat 2 saham optimal pada masing-masing sektor yang selanjutnya di silang menjadi portofolio A, B, C, dan D. Setelah melakukan pengukuran kinerja untuk diperingkat didapatkan portofolio C dengan kinerja terbaik yang memberikan return yang lebih tinggi pada tingkat risiko sistematis yang relatif sama dibandingkan portofolio lainnya

    Manifestation of spin-charge separation in the dynamic dielectric response of one--dimensional Sr2CuO3

    We have determined the dynamical dielectric response of a one-dimensional, correlated insulator by carrying out electron energy-loss spectroscopy on Sr2CuO3 single crystals. The observed momentum and energy dependence of the low-energy features, which correspond to collective transitions across the gap, are well described by an extended one-band Hubbard model with moderate nearest neighbor Coulomb interaction strength. An exciton-like peak appears with increasing momentum transfer. These observations provide experimental evidence for spin-charge separation in the relevant excitations of this compound, as theoretically expected for the one-dimensional Hubbard model.Comment: RevTex, 4 pages+2 figures, to appear in PRL (July 13
