Today, the Catholic Church skillfully adapts the achievements of mod ern communication technologies to support the pastoral ministry. The author of this article shows what attitude towards modern digital tech nologies was presented by the last three popes: John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis. Each of them, in their own way, formed a dialogue with the faithful, using the digital tools in a conscious and thoughtful way. The Pope’s relationship with the faithful, mediated by modern media, confirms that digital tools, now called the digital age, play an important role in the evangelization of the modern world.W dzisiejszych czasach Kościół katolicki w umiejętny sposób adaptu je osiągnięcia współczesnych technologii komunikacyjnych do wspo magania posługi duszpasterskiej. Autor niniejszego artykułu ukazuje jakie stanowisko wobec nowoczesnych technologii cyfrowych prezen towali ostatni trzej papieże: Jan Paweł II, Benedykt XVI i Franciszek. Każdy z nich na swój specyficzny sposób nawiązał dialog z wierny mi, wykorzystując cyfrowe narzędzia w sposób świadomy i przemyśla ny.

Book and reading activity : continuity and changes in the digital age

Printed book has been the most mighty and durably influent medium in terms of its power of inducting wide-ranging social and intellectual changes. Nevertheless, the expansion of electronic mass media puts forward the question of possible recasting of printed book’s social and cultural functions due to some specific communication habits shaped by the new technologies and the audio-iconicity

Quality management in journalism : a trouble, a pipe dream or a necessity?

    Get PDF
Newspapers and journalism are experiencing a serious crisis, primarily economic, but also a crisis of their social role and credibility. It is visible in the decline in expenditure and revenue, including advertising, in the decreasing number of journalists and loss of public confidence. This pushes the further tabloidization of journalism, by which I mean using all means, themes, and forms that could attract readers. The result is a simplification of the content, a neglect of journalistic ethics, and - worst of all - numerous errors, from spelling mistakes to false information. This further decreases the credibility of the press. To brake this vicious circle a renewed appreciation of the importance of confidence in journalism is needed. This article describes the Total Quality Management project which was prepared by The Media and Society Foundation

Corrections to our results for optical nanofiber traps in Cesium

Several errors in Refs. [1, 2] are corrected related to the optical trapping potentials for a state-insensitive, compensated nanofiber trap for the D_2 transition of atomic Cesium. Section I corrects our basic formalism in Ref. [1] for calculating dipole-force potentials. Section II corrects erroneous values for a partial lifetime and a transition wavelength in Ref. [1]. Sections III and IV present corrected figures for various trapping configurations considered in Refs. [1] and [2], respectively

The decision of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of August 8, 2011 on including the media studies in the register of scientific disciplines in Poland, seems to be an opportunity to recall the precursors, the names of founding fathers of communication research, and current schools of developing theory and empirical investigations in this field

Superradiance for atoms trapped along a photonic crystal waveguide

We report observations of superradiance for atoms trapped in the near field of a photonic crystal waveguide (PCW). By fabricating the PCW with a band edge near the D1_1 transition of atomic cesium, strong interaction is achieved between trapped atoms and guided-mode photons. Following short-pulse excitation, we record the decay of guided-mode emission and find a superradiant emission rate scaling as ΓˉSRNˉΓ1D\bar{\Gamma}_{\rm SR}\propto\bar{N}\cdot\Gamma_{\rm 1D} for average atom number 0.19Nˉ2.60.19 \lesssim \bar{N} \lesssim 2.6 atoms, where Γ1D/Γ0=1.1±0.1\Gamma_{\rm 1D}/\Gamma_0 =1.1\pm0.1 is the peak single-atom radiative decay rate into the PCW guided mode and Γ0\Gamma_{0} is the Einstein-AA coefficient for free space. These advances provide new tools for investigations of photon-mediated atom-atom interactions in the many-body regime.Comment: 11 pages, 10 figure
