From globalization to deglobalization: Zooming into trade. Bruegel Special Report

After decades of increasing globalization both in trade, capital flows but even people to people movements, it seems the trend has turned towards deglobalization. This article shows some evidence of the decrease in merchandise, capital and, to a lesser extent people to people flows. In addition, zooming into trade, the article offers an account of the importance of the strategic competition between the US and China to foster the deglobalization trend further. This is true for trade but even beyond in the tech and finance space. Finally, the demise of the WTO could be one of the most relevant turning points towards deglobalization, especially as far as trade is concerned. This should bring downward pressure to growth globally

We begin by outlining different perspectives on globalization and examine how globalization has evolved over time. Based on this discussion, we provide a definition of globalization which best accounts for contemporary patterns of global interdependence. Do Elections Slow Down Economic Globalization Process in India? It's Politics Stupid!

I investigate whether timing of the elections impact economic globalization process or not in India. In other words, do elections slowdown economic globalization process? The theoretical underpinning is that, policies of economic globalization lead to economic and social hardships in short run but benefit the economy in the long run. The motto behind slowing down the economic globalization process before elections is that it leads to polarization of voters and thus negatively affects the incumbent government. I make use of Axel Dreherís economic globalization index and construct ëinstrumental electoral cycleí to capture the scheduled and midterm election cycle. Using time series data for India for the period 1970 ñ 2006, I find that scheduled elections are associated with slow down in economic globalization, whereas midterm elections are not. Replacing Dreherís economic globalization index with our modified globalization index does not alter the results. I also find that slow down in economic globalization process is responsive to the propinquity to a scheduled election year. Meaning, as incumbent government nears the scheduled elections, economic globalization process keeps slowing down, while this is exactly opposite during the early years of incumbent government in office. Globalization Report 2016: Who Benefits Most from Globalization? Bertelsmann Policy Brief #2018/02

The globalization report appears regularly and sets an authoritative standard for the comprehensive analysis of current globalization issues and global economic development. The 2016 globalization report comes in two parts. Building on the previous report, the first part focuses on the question of to what extent different countries have benefited from globalization in the past and to which degree this is possible in the future. The second part analyses the export performance and the development of the international competitiveness of 42 globally important economies. The first part of the investigation creates a globalization index which takes into account the economic, political and social aspects of globalization. Subsequently, the index data are used, together with a regression analysis, to quantify and compare the impacts on growth caused by globalization in the various countries. Then the country is identified which has achieved the most growth as a result of globalization

Is There Electoral Cycles in Globalization Process? Evidence From 78 Democratic Countries, 1975-2006

The theoretical underpinning is that, globalization process lead to economic and social hardships in short run but benefit the economy in the long run. I make use of Axel Dreherís comprehensive globalization index as proxy for overall globalization process; economic globalization index for economic globalization policies and restrictions index as proxy for removal of trade and financial restrictions. I then construct ëinstrumental electoral cycleí to capture the scheduled and midterm election cycle. Using cross-sectional time series data for 78 democratic countries for the period 1975 ñ 2006, I find that scheduled elections are associated with slow down in all the three forms of globalization process, whereas midterm elections are not. Replacing all three Dreherís indices with our modified indices does not alter the results. I also find that slow down in globalization process is responsive to the propinquity to a scheduled election year. Globalizations for partial (co)actions on coalgebras

In this paper, we introduce the notion of globalization for partial module coalgebra and for partial comodule coalgebra. We show that every partial module coalgebra is globalizable exhibiting a standard globalization. We also show the existence of globalization for a partial comodule coalgebra, provided a certain rationality condition. Moreover, we show a relationship between the globalization for the (co)module coalgebra and the usual globalization for the (co)module algebra.Comment: 31 page
