A Critical Review of "Automatic Patch Generation Learned from Human-Written Patches": Essay on the Problem Statement and the Evaluation of Automatic Software Repair
At ICSE'2013, there was the first session ever dedicated to automatic program
repair. In this session, Kim et al. presented PAR, a novel template-based
approach for fixing Java bugs. We strongly disagree with key points of this
paper. Our critical review has two goals. First, we aim at explaining why we
disagree with Kim and colleagues and why the reasons behind this disagreement
are important for research on automatic software repair in general. Second, we
aim at contributing to the field with a clarification of the essential ideas
behind automatic software repair. In particular we discuss the main evaluation
criteria of automatic software repair: understandability, correctness and
completeness. We show that depending on how one sets up the repair scenario,
the evaluation goals may be contradictory. Eventually, we discuss the nature of
fix acceptability and its relation to the notion of software correctness.Comment: ICSE 2014, India (2014
Can a nudge keep you warm? Using nudges to reduce excess winter deaths: insight from the Keeping Warm in Later Life Project (KWILLT)
Nudges are interventions that aim to change people's behaviour through changing the environment in which they choose rather than appealing to their reasoning. Nudges have been proposed as of possible use in relation to health-related behaviour. However, nudges have been criticized as ethically dubious because they bypass peoples reasoning and (anyway) are of little help in relation to affecting ill-health that results from social determinants, such as poverty. Reducing the rate of excess winter deaths (EWDs) is a public health priority; however, EWD seems clearly to be socially determined such that nudges arguably have little role. This article defends two claims: (i) nudges could have a place in tackling even the heavily socially determined problem of EWD. We draw on evidence from an empirical study, the Keeping Warm in Later Life Project (KWILLT), to argue that in some cases the risk of cold is within the personâs control to some extent such that environmental modifications to influence behaviour such as nudges are possible. (ii) Some uses of behavioural insights in the form of nudges are acceptable, including some in the area of EWD. Managing knowledge in the context of sustainable construction
The 21st century has been a growing awareness of the importance of the sustainability agenda. Moreover for construction, it has become increasingly important as clients are pushing for a more sustainable product to complement their organisationsâ own strategic plans. Sustainable development can be defined as development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Sustainable construction is therefore seen as the application of sustainable practices to the activities of the construction sector. One of the key factors in making construction projects more sustainable is overcoming the obstacles of capturing and managing the knowledge required by project teams to effect such change. Managing this knowledge is key to the construction industry because of the unique characteristics of its projects, i.e. multi-disciplinary teams, dynamic participation of team members, heavy reliance on previous experiences/heuristics, the one-off nature of the projects, tight schedules, limited budget, etc. Initiatives within the industry and academic research are developing mechanisms and tools for managing knowledge in construction firms and projects. Schwarzschild Atmospheric Processes: A Classical Path to the Quantum
We develop some classical descriptions for processes in the Schwarzschild
string atmosphere. These processes suggest relationships between macroscopic
and microscopic scales. The classical descriptions developed in this essay
highlight the fundamental quantum nature of the Schwarzschild atmospheric

Galactic bulge from point source counts extracted from the Midcourse Space

Magnetovac Cylinder to Magnetovac Torus
A method for mapping known cylindrical magnetovac solutions to solutions in
torus coordinates is developed. Identification of the cylinder ends changes
topology from R1 x S1 to S1 x S1. An analytic Einstein-Maxwell solution for a
toroidal magnetic field in tori is presented. The toroidal interior is matched
to an asymptotically flat vacuum exterior, connected by an Israel boundary

The skits it comprises were first worked out and given by Ponssard and Thompson in the spring of 1974. Recent star formation in the inner Galactic Bulge seen by ISOGAL. I - Classification of bright mid-IR sources in a test field
Context: The stellar populations in the central region of the Galaxy are
poorly known because of the high visual extinction and very great source
density in this direction.
Aims: To use recent infrared surveys for studying the dusty stellar objects
in this region.
Methods: We analyse the content of a 20x20 arcmin^2 field centred at
(l,b)=(-0.27,-0.06) observed at 7 and 15 microns as part of the ISOGAL survey.
These ISO observations are more than an order of magnitude better in
sensitivity and spatial resolution than the IRAS observations. The sources are
cross-associated with other catalogues to identify various types of objects. We
then derive criteria to distinguish young objects from post-main sequence
stars.
Results: We find that a sample of about 50 young stellar objects and
ultra-compact HII regions emerges, out of a population of evolved AGB stars. We
demonstrate that the sources colours and spatial extents, as they appear in the
ISOGAL catalogue, possibly complemented with MSX photometry at 21 microns, can
be used to determine whether the ISOGAL sources brighter than 300 mJy at 15
microns (or [15] < 4.5 mag) are young objects or late-type evolved stars.Comment: 15 pages, 12 figures. Accepted for publication in Astronomy and

Fractal Scales in a Schwarzschild Atmosphere
Recently, Glass and Krisch have extended the Vaidya radiating metric to
include both a radiation fluid and a string fluid [1999 Class. Quantum Grav.
vol 16, 1175]. Mass diffusion in the extended Schwarzschild atmosphere was
studied. The continuous solutions of classical diffusive transport are believed
to describe the envelope of underlying fractal behavior. In this work we
examine the classical picture at scales on which fractal behavior might be
