Viscosity of plasticized sulfur-extended asphalt: two-factor sequential optimization

The compounding properties of construction materials for pavements strongly depend on dynamic viscosity of the binder. The favorable class of binder is plasticized sulfur-extended asphalt. Unfortunately, the viscosity of such a binder has not been studied in detail. In the present work we have performed experimental two-factor sequential constrained optimization of the viscosity. The binders under examination were made of asphalt, sulfur and paraffin. It was revealed that the addition of sulfur and paraffin leads to a significant decrease of the dynamic viscosity. The obtained results allowed us to estimate mixture and temperature that correspond to optimal compounding properties of the sulfur-extended asphalt concrete. In particular, for plasticized asphalt concrete with 30% of sulfur and 5% of paraffin, the optimal processing temperature is 25 °C lower than for ordinary asphalt. Since low preparation temperatures correspond to low emission of toxic gases and low processing costs, we can consider the concretes that will be based on plasticized sulfur-extended asphalt as green paving materials

Advanced channeling technologies for X-ray applications

    Get PDF
Recent studies have shown the feasibility of channeling phenomenology applications to describe various mechanisms of interaction of charged and neutral particle beams and radiations as well in solids, plasmas, laser fields - in general, in external electromagnetic fields. As proved, X-rays and thermal neutrons propagation in metamaterials composed by hollow multichannel substance can be much easily analyzed within channeling theory. Its utilization allows predicting some new peculiarities in the radiation distribution behind multichannel subjects that might create novel fine instruments and methods for future applied techniques

This paper is devoted to studies of wetting in metal island films on different substrates in the broad ranges of temperature (from 0.6 to 1.5 of the melting temperature), island size (from 3 nm to 10 mkm) and thickness of films serving as substrates (from 0 to 100 nm)

Structural Organization in the System of Magnetized Aggregates in Elliptically Polarized Rotating Magnetic Field

    Get PDF
Observed data supporting the possibility of magnetic ordering in magnetic colloids are reported. A pos-sibility of aggregate spatial ordering in a system of magnetized aggregates was found under the influence of rotating and crossed constant and alternating magnetic fields. Image super-resolution method based on a hole array mask usage

    Get PDF
A super-resolution method based on the image registration by a photo-matrix located behind the mask with a hole array is proposed. The mask can take four different positions in relation to the photo-matrix. Each position allows the registration of one digital image using a quarter of each pixel in the matrix. Based on these images one image whose linear spatial resolution two time exceeds the resolution of each registered images is synthesized. The method is very resistant to noise and interference in the process of registration as well as to calculation error

New consumer services provided by smart metering

    Get PDF
This paper focuses on the issues of smart metering market and considers different services provided by smart metering from consumer point of view. Firstly, smart metering deployment challenges emerging and conventional tariffs, which modify a consumer behavior and thus, the entire electric energy market can be optimized since the customer is motivated to consume less energy. Secondly, the authors illustrate changes in electricity quality, which have an impact on consumer relations with utility. Additionally, two main indices of grid resilience – SAIDI and SAIFI – are exemplified to reveal the improvement potential of smart metering implementation in certain regions of Russia that also influence the consumer. Finally, in-home display and privacy problem directly reflect the consumer’s behavior, thus the private life rights should not be violated as they are guaranteed by law
