Come rafforzare il supporto alla gestione FAIR dei dati della ricerca e sviluppare una cultura di Open Science allâinterno di un Ateneo?
Una risposta unica non esiste. LâUniversitĂ di Bologna si è messa in gioco e, dopo aver inserito questi obiettivi allâinterno del piano strategico per il quinquennio 2022-2027, ha lanciato un progetto, chiamato âData Steward@Uniboâ, sperimentando una possibile via per supportare i ricercatori e rafforzare la consapevolezza di una corretta gestione dei dati di ricerca.
Il primo passo è stato dotarsi di professionisti, âdata stewardâ, esperti nei diversi domini di ricerca, con esperienza nella gestione FAIR dei dati e nelle tematiche di Open Science.

Small-for-gestational-age fetus diagnosed in the second trimester: Possible etiologies and short-term neonatal outcomes
Introduction: The aim of our study was to investigate the causes of fetal growth <10th centile diagnosed <26âweeks' gestation in singleton pregnancies and compare pregnancy outcomes in relation to the identified etiology. Material and methods: Historical cohort study conducted in two Italian hospitals which included all small-for-gestational-age fetuses diagnosed between 18+0 and 26+0âweeks over a 10-year period. Fetuses were divided into three groups depending on the prenatally suspected etiology: chromosomal abnormalities (Group 1), malformations (Group 2) and isolated (Group 3). These groups were compared regarding pregnancy outcomes. Fetuses in Group 3 were divided into small-for-gestational-age and fetal growth restriction following the Delphi Consensus criteria and the outcomes were further compared. Fisher's Exact or Mann-Whitney test were used for comparison of groups. Results: In all, 435 fetuses were included. Of these, 20 cases (4.6%) were associated with chromosomal abnormalities (Group 1), 98 (22.5%) with fetal malformations (Group 2) and 317 (72.9%) were isolated (Group 3). A higher percentage of live births was reported for Group 3 (Pâ<â0.001). Termination of pregnancy was more common in Group 1 (Pâ<â0.001). No differences in gestational age at delivery, birthweight, intrauterine death or neonatal death were detected within groups. Growth-restricted fetuses had lower gestational age at delivery, birthweight and number of live births (Pâ<â0.001), higher rates of termination of pregnancy, intrauterine death (Pâ<â0.001) and neonatal death <10âdays (P = 0.002) compared to small-for-gestational-age. In 17 cases a chromosomal abnormality, genetic syndrome or adverse neurological outcome was diagnosed after birth: six from Group 2 (11.3% of live births in this group) and 11 from Group 3 (4.3%). Conclusions: We report that fetal growth <10th percentile diagnosed before 26âweeks is not isolated before birth in 27% of cases. Malformations and chromosomal abnormalities are common etiologies; therefore, detailed anomaly scans and invasive testing should be offered. In addition, there is a residual risk of neonatal death and postnatal diagnosis of a genetic syndrome or neurodevelopmental impairment despite normal prenatal tests. These results expand the small amount of information on the outcome of cases with very early diagnosis of impaired fetal growth currently available and highlight the importance of detailed counseling with couples
The Brave study: promoting active breaks in secondary school from studentsâ point of view
Background: According to the WHO recommendations, children and adolescents should perform at least 60 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous physical activity (PA). Active Breaks (ABs) interventions, short physical activity breaks of 5-
15 minutes during school hours, have been examined in primary school children as a potential strategy to counteract a sedentary lifestyle, with minimal disruption to school learning activities. The aim of the BRAVE STUDY is to investigate the
feasibility of ABs in a secondary school setting from the studentsâ point of view.
Methods: In December 2020, 10 students (age 12-13, 6 females and 4
males) attending the second and third grade of secondary schools located in Bologna province (Italy) were involved in a focus group (FG). The FG was conducted online because of COVID-19 and the answers transcribed for a later analysis. Studentsâ opinions were probed on the role of PA in school
and possible facilitators/barriers to implementation of ABs in the school.
Results: Students reported they wanted to be more active as a consequence of time spent in class sitting at a desk. Students also reported that an organized activity like ABs conducted in the classroom setting provides an excellent opportunity to
improve social relations with classmates. Students also highlighted the possible psycho-physical well-being benefits arising from PA. Among the potentially negative aspects reported, students underlined the possible confusion that would be created in classroom and the time subtracted from academic
learning activities. Conclusions: The FG represents an ideal mean to obtain in-depth
information on how people feel about a pending program or a change in their routine. The current FG reinforces positive outcomes from exposure to a PA program that can be intertwined with their daily classroom activities. ABs programs
can help to reconcile the needs of students that arise during the day with the PA objectives recommended by the WHO.

HYDAMTIQ, a selective PARP-1 inhibitor, improves bleomycin-induced lung fibrosis by dampening the TGF-β/SMAD signalling pathway
Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a severe disease characterized by excessive myofibroblast proliferation, extracellular matrix and fibrils deposition, remodelling of lung parenchyma and pulmonary insufficiency. Drugs able to reduce disease progression are available, but therapeutic results are unsatisfactory; new and safe treatments are urgently needed. Poly(ADPâribose) polymerasesâ1 (PARPâ1) is an abundant nuclear enzyme involved in key biological processes: DNA repair, gene expression control, and cell survival or death. In liver and heart, PARPâ1 activity facilitates oxidative damage, collagen deposition and fibrosis development. In this study, we investigated the effects of HYDAMTIQ, a potent PARPâ1 inhibitor, in a murine model of lung fibrosis. We evaluated the role of PARP on transforming growth factorâβ (TGFâβ) expression and TGFâβ/SMAD signalling pathway in lungs. Mice were intratracheally injected with bleomycin and then treated with either vehicle or different doses of HYDAMTIQ for 21 days. Airway resistance to inflation and lung static compliance, markers of lung stiffness, were assayed. Histochemical and biochemical parameters to evaluate TGFâβ/SMAD signalling pathway with alphaâsmooth muscle actin (ÎąSMA) deposition and the levels of a number of inflammatory markers (tumour necrosis factorâÎą, interleukinâ1β, iNOS and COXâ2) were performed. Bleomycin administration increased lung stiffness. It also increased lung PARP activity, TGFâβ levels, pSMAD3 expression, ÎąSMA deposition and content of inflammatory markers. HYDAMTIQ attenuated all the aboveâmentioned physiological, biochemical and histopathological markers. Our findings support the proposal that PARP inhibitors could have a therapeutic potential in reducing the progression of signs and symptoms of the disease by decreasing TGFâβ expression and the TGFâβ/SMAD transduction pathway
A snapshot of Physical Education in Italian primary schools: assessing the resources available for an instrument of health promotion
Background: Regular physical activity is crucial in preventing chronic diseases. International health authorities recommend that children and adolescents engage in at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day to achieve health benefits. Offering regular exercise opportunities to young people can promote the development of healthy lifestyles. In 2021, a new regulation introduced up to two compulsory hours of Physical Education per week in Italy and established that Physical Education should be entrusted to adequately trained teachers. The present study aimed to assess, from the perspective of the new teachers, the resources available for Physical Education in Italian primary schools. Methods: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted among primary school Physical Education teachers during the year 2022-2023. Their opinion about the school resources were analyzed in light of their demographic characteristics and work experience. Results: Out of the 118 participating teachers, 96 (81.3%) reported the presence of a gym in their school. Participants expressed satisfaction with the size and windows of the gym, particularly for the schools of the North, as well as the adequacy of outdoor spaces. However, lower levels of satisfaction for locker rooms and gym small equipment emerged, especially among those teachers with less work experience. Conclusions: The introduction of the Physical Education teacher figure in Italian primary schools was an important step for health promotion in our country. However, some aspects related to the structural resources should be considered in future policies
Erasmus+sport letâs move Europa: learning units for health promotion among children and adolescents
Background
School years are crucial for acquiring life-lasting healthy habits. However, an increasing rate of children and adolescents fail to maintain a healthy lifestyle. European Union has financed the Erasmus+ Sport Letâs Move Europa project to design an innovative digital tool for promoting healthy lifestyles among those age groups. University of Bologna, partner of the project, has developed 30 Learning Units (LUs) about Physical Activity, Sleep and Nutrition to be integrated in the school program by teacher
EUROTROPISM AND NEUROPSYCHIATRIC SYMPTOMS IN PATIENTS WITH COVID-19
Background: The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by the Severe Acute Respiratory
Syndrome-CoronaVirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Beyond the most common clinical features of COVID-19, mainly represented by
respiratory symptoms, other systems may be interested by the infection. Among these, through a neurotropic pathway, the central
nervous system (CNS) may be affected by the virus, leading to developing neuropsychiatric symptoms. Particularly, this study
focuses on neurological symptoms determined by the Sars-CoV-2 infection, as well as on the underlying pathogenetic processes.
Methods: For the present review, we followed a narrative approach. A literature search was carried out concerning the
neurological consequences of COVID-19. Papers were screened, focusing on the clinical manifestations interesting the CNS and on
their possible role in the early diagnosis of the disease.
Results: We display the most significant neurological clinical manifestations of COVID-19. Common neurological manifestations
(ageusia, anosmia, and encephalitis) are first described. Subsequently, we provide a focus on delirium and its possible pathoge netic
and clinical correlates. Delirium is not only a possible resultant of the COVID-19 neurotropism, but it may also be precipitated by a
number of environmental factors that assume further relevance during the pandemic.
Conclusions: Neuropsychiatric symptoms, and particularly delirium, can help identifying the infection at an early stage. Tailored
treatments should be identified in order to prevent complications
Maternal Cardiovascular Dysfunction is Associated with Hypoxic Cerebral and Umbilical Doppler Changes.
We investigate the relationship between maternal cardiovascular (CV) function and fetal Doppler changes in healthy pregnancies and those with pre-eclampsia (PE), small for gestational age (SGA) or fetal growth restriction (FGR). This was a three-centre prospective study, where CV assessment was performed using inert gas rebreathing, continuous Doppler or impedance cardiography. Maternal cardiac output (CO) and peripheral vascular resistance (PVR) were analysed in relation to the uterine artery, umbilical artery (UA) and middle cerebral artery (MCA) pulsatility indices (PI, expressed as z-scores by gestational week) using polynomial regression analyses, and in relation to the presence of absent/reversed end diastolic (ARED) flow in the UA. We included 81 healthy controls, 47 women with PE, 65 with SGA/FGR and 40 with PE + SGA/FGR. Maternal CO was inversely related to fetal UA PI and positively related to MCA PI; the opposite was observed for PVR, which was also positively associated with increased uterine artery impedance. CO was lower (z-score 97, p = 0.02) and PVR higher (z-score 2.88, p = 0.02) with UA ARED flow. We report that maternal CV dysfunction is associated with fetal vascular changes, namely raised impedance in the fetal-placental circulation and low impedance in the fetal cerebral vessels. These findings are most evident with critical UA Doppler changes and represent a potential mechanism for therapeutic intervention
IgE-mediated fish allergy in children
Abstract: Fish allergy constitutes a severe problem worldwide. Its prevalence has been calculated as high as 7% in paediatric populations, and in many cases, it persists into adulthood with life-threatening signs and symptoms. The following review focuses on the epidemiology of Immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated fish allergy, its pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, and a thorough approach to diagnosis and management in the paediatric population. The traditional approach for managing fish allergy is avoidance and rescue medication for accidental exposures. Food avoidance poses many obstacles and is not easily maintained. In the specific case of fish, food is also not the
only source of allergens; aerosolisation of fish proteins when cooking is a common source of highly allergenic parvalbumin, and elimination diets cannot prevent these contacts. Novel management approaches based on immunomodulation are a promising strategy for the future of these patients
