Factors Contributing to Participation in Web-based Surveys among Italian University Graduates

An established yearly survey aimed at monitoring the employment opportunities of Italian graduates, traditionally carried out with Cati methods, has been integrated during the last few years with Cawi. Cawi has become increasingly crucial due to the high number of graduates involved in the survey, which has mandated a reduction in fieldwork duration and unit costs. Although the seven Cawi surveys used here have different substantive and methodological characteristics, preliminary analysis reveals a common trend: the utmost participation is observed during the first few days immediately following initiation of fieldwork and, to a lesser degree, the delivery of follow-up reminders. Web respondents comprise a self-selected subgroup of the target population, having better academic performance and greater computer skills. A Cox regression model estimating response probability (or response time) shows, besides the obvious effects of certain personal and survey design characteristics, that faster response times are expressed by graduates in science or engineering and reporting good computer skills, whereas the fields of medicine/health and defence/security and no computer skills give rise to lower response probability. Ways to use these findings for fine-tuning data collection are discussed.Cawi surveys, Response rate, University graduates,Cox regression

ENDOGENOUS DOPAMINE FACILITATES STRIATAL IN VIVO ACETYLCHOLINE-RELEASE BY ACTING ON D(1)-RECEPTORS LOCALIZED IN THE STRIATUM

Intrastriatal application of the D1 antagonist SCH 23390 by two procedures, reverse dialysis (20-mu-M) and local injection (0.45 nmol per striatum), elicited a reduction in acetylcholine (ACh) release superimposable on that induced by systemic administration. The novel selective D1 antagonist SCH 39166 produced a similar decreasing effect on striatal ACh release on local injection (0.45 nmol per striatum). On the other hand, local application of SCH 23390 into the frontal cortices (0.45 nmol per side) failed to alter striatal ACh overflow, indicating that the drug does not diffuse out of its injection site to any significant extent. The dopamine release inducer d-amphetamine (2 mg/kg s.c.) and the dopamine uptake inhibitor cocaine raised ACh release like the D1 agonists. These effects were completely blocked by 10-mu-M SCH 23390 applied by reverse dialysis. The results suggest that D1 receptors regulating ACh release are located in the striatum

NEUROLEPTICS INCREASE STRIATAL ACETYLCHOLINE-RELEASE BY A SEQUENTIAL D-1 AND D-2 RECEPTOR MECHANISM

IN normal striata, pre-treatment with the D-1 antagonist SCH 23390 (250 and 25 mug kg-1, s.c.) completely and lastingly prevented the D-2 antagonist renioxipride (REM) from increasing acetylcholine (ACh) release; post-treatment did not affect REM action. In alpha-methyl-p-tyrosine (alpha-MpT) dopamine (DA)-depleted striata, however, pre-treatment with SCH 23390 resulted in a transient impairment of REM induced stimulation of ACh release but post-treatment still had no effect. Two different mechanisms therefore seem to be involved in D-2 antagonist-induced stimulation of ACh release; the antagonists indirectly activate a D-1 receptor-mediated facilitatory mechanism regulating cholinergic function, and directly block a D-2 receptor-mediated inhibitory one. In normal rats, in an early phase after D-2 antagonist administration, only the first mechanism is operative; in a later phase, both mechanisms cooperate in the stimulation of ACh release. When DA release is impaired by alpha-MpT, the D-2 inhibitory receptor mechanism becomes more important than the D-1 facilitatory one in controlling ACh release

2020 Dataset on local gambling regulations in Italy

The dataset provides the complete enumeration of gambling policies implemented by Italian Municipalities between 2003 and 2021. The dataset comprises information on all municipalities existing in 2017 and following years (thus considering also merging). The following variables are available: Municipality ISTAT Code (ID), Municipality Name (Name) Province, Region, Researcher, and a series of variables identifying the number and the type of rulings adopted ('regolamento', 'ordinanza' and 'delibera'). The rulings are distinguished between identified and downloaded or only identified (because the document is no longer available). Additional variables describe municipal activism with other administrative acts (Anti-gambling Manifesto, events, projects or tax reductions). Overall, the dataset comprises 8031 units
