The growing importance of signal integrity (SI) analysis in integrated circuits (ICs), revealed by modern systemin-package methods, is demanding for new models for the IC sub-systems which are both accurate, efficient and extractable by simple measurement procedures. This paper presents the contribution for the establishment of an integrated IC modeling approach whose performance is assessed by direct comparison with the signals measured in laboratory of two distinct memory IC devices. Based on the identification of the main blocks of a typical IC device, the modeling approach consists of a network of system-level sub-models, some of which with already demonstrated accuracy, which simulated the IC interfacing behavior. Emphasis is given to the procedures that were developed to validate by means of laboratory measurements (and not by comparison with circuit-level simulations) the model performance, which is a novel and important aspect that should be considered in the design of IC models that are useful for SI analysi

Aedes aegypti prefers densely populated habitats, but has been shown to explore less anthropogenic environments. We investigated composition of the abundance of mosquitoes in forested areas and assessed relationships between species occurrences and different types of land use and land cover at three spatial scales (100m, 500m and 1000m). Mosquitoes were collected from October 2012 to March 2013 using oviposition traps. We collected 4,179 mosquitoes in total including at least 10 species. Aedes albopictus and Limatus durhami were eudominant species, representing 90% of all collected individuals. We found intraspecific differences in response to land use and land cover, and species response patterns were similar at all spatial scales. Ae. albopictus relative abundance was associated with urbanized areas, while Li. durhami, Haemagogus leucocelaenus and Toxorhynchites sp., abundances were associated with native forest. Aedes aegypti were found in five of the eight areas studied, including in an Atlantic forest fragment at a considerable distance from the forest edge (370 m). Aedes aegypti occurrence was not influenced by type of land use or land cover.

Customizing computer vision applications for embedded systems is a common and widespread problem in the cyber-physical systems community. Such a customization means parametrizing the algorithm by considering the external environment and mapping the Software application to the heterogeneous Hardware resources by satisfying non-functional constraints like performance, power, and energy consumption. This work presents a framework for the design and simulation of embedded vision applications that integrates the OpenVX standard platform with the Robot Operating System (ROS). The paper shows how the framework has been applied to tune the ORB-SLAM application for an NVIDIA Jetson TX2 board by considering different environment contexts and different design constraints

Under the Cognitive Linguistics approach, we analyze proverb comprehension by children and adults, through a comprehension task. Three groups of participants were interviewed:.30 adults over the age of 18; 33 younger children (m=7,5 years old, sd=7,3 months); and 25 older children (m=10,59 years old, sd=7,92 months). A repeated measure analysis of variance (ANOVA) was conducted, complemented by a Tukey test. The items, the age groups, the nature of the questions and the interactions between these categories were analyzed. The analyses presented a main effect of age, nature of the question and item in the proverb comprehension competence of the interviewed groups (p<0.05). The younger the participant, the lower was his/her tendency to comprehend the items

Maintenance deep transcranial magnetic stimulation sessions are associated with reduced depressive relapses in patients with unipolar or bipolar depression

Introduction: Deep transcranial magnetic stimulation (dTMS) is a new form of TMS allowing safe stimulation of deep brain regions. The objective of this preliminary study was to assess the role of dTMS maintenance sessions in protecting patients with bipolar disorder (BD) or recurrent major depressive disorder (MDD) from developing depressive or manic relapses in a 12-month follow-up period. Methods: Twenty-four drug-resistant patients with a current depressive episode and a diagnosis of MDD or BD have been enrolled in the study. All the participants underwent daily dTMS sessions for 4 weeks. One group (maintenance - M group) received additional maintenance dTMS sessions weekly or twice a week. Results: After the first dTMS cycle, a significant reduction of Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) scores was observed in all participants. Subsequently, the HDRS mean scores did not significantly change over time in the M group, while it significantly increased in the non-M-group after 6 and 12 months. Discussion: This study confirms previous evidence of a positive therapeutic effect of dTMS on depressive symptoms and suggests that, after recovery from acute episodes, maintenance dTMS sessions may be helpful in maintaining euthymia in a 12-month follow-up period

Three-dimensional spin-wave dynamics, localization and interference in a synthetic antiferromagnet

Spin waves are collective perturbations in the orientation of the magnetic moments in magnetically ordered materials. Their rich phenomenology is intrinsically three dimensional, from the trajectory of the spin precession during their propagation, to the profiles of the spin-wave mode throughout the volume of the magnetic system. This gives rise to novel complex phenomena with high potential for applications in the field of magnonics. However, the three-dimensional imaging of spin waves, key to understanding and harnessing these phenomena, has so far not been possible. Here, we image the three-dimensional dynamics of spin waves excited in a synthetic antiferromagnet, with nanoscale spatial resolution and sub-ns temporal resolution, using time-resolved magnetic laminography. In this way, we map the distribution of the spin-wave modes throughout the volume of the structure, revealing unexpected depth-dependent profiles originating from the interlayer dipolar interaction. We experimentally demonstrate the existence of complex three-dimensional interference patterns, and analyze them via micromagnetic modelling. We find that these patterns are generated by the superposition of spin waves with non-uniform amplitude profiles, and that their features can be controlled by tuning the composition and structure of the magnetic system. Our results open unforeseen possibilities for the study of complex spin-wave modes and their interaction within nanostructures, and for the generation and manipulation of three-dimensional spin-wave landscapes for the design of novel functions in magnonic devices.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figure
