The time allocated to teach the sound system of Hanyu Pinyin in Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) is insufficient for learners. Hence, it is suggested a web-based instruction incorporate into the curriculum as a self-learning material for learners to enable them to manage their learning process in the absence of instructor. The objective of this paper is to assess the effectiveness of utilizing Guru Hanyu Pinyin web based instruction as a teaching tool for non-native speakers in improving the writing and reading skills at disyllabic word level in Hanyu Pinyin. The study compares the academic achievements for Hanyu Pinyin of two different groups of students whereby the experimental group adopts the webbased instruction and the control group adopts the traditional approach as the mode of learning. This research is targeted on first year elementary level Mandarin students at UiTM Penang campus. The research sample has been selected through stratified random sampling. The findings for writing of disyllabic words showed that the mean score of the experimental group is better than the control group but there is no significant statistical difference between them. At the same time, the findings also indicate that the experimental group, which was using this Guru Hanyu Pinyin web-based instruction, is performing better than control group in term of reading skill. As the result, the students from experimental group can read the pronunciation of initials and finals better. This paper also discusses some limitations that were discovered during the research and proposes some recommendations for future research

The objective of this paper is to assess the feasibility of utilizing Guru Hanyu Pinyin web based instruction as a teaching tool for non-native speakers in recognizing the differences of 4 tones at syllable level in Hanyu Pinyin. The study compares the academic achievements for Hanyu Pinyin of two different groups of students whereby the experimental group adopts the web based instruction and the control group adopts the traditional approach as the mode of learning. This research is targetted on first year elementary level Mandarin students at UiTM Penang campus. The research sample has been selected through stratified random sampling. Research findings reveal interesting results whereby the performance of the control group is statistically better than the experimental group in recognizing differences of 4 tones at syllable level. This paper also discusses some limitations that were discovered in the existing version of teaching tool developed and proposes some recommendations for future research

The Web-based instruction (WBI) is the instructional materials that are used in the learning system that involves the network operation center (NOC), the WWW resources, the learners, instructors and the regularly conducted lectures of fulltime teaching staff. The main objective of this paper is to describe the system architecture of web-based Hanyu Pinyin (Romanised Mandarin) instruction and its main features. The Hanyu Pinyin WBI is tailored to tackle the weaknesses and to meet the specific needs of Malay learners. This paper also discusses the first impression of UiTM students who study through Guru Hanyu Pinyin web-based instruction (Romanised Mandarin Web-based instruction). To conduct the study, descriptive statistical tool was used. A group of 28 students in UiTM Penang campus were selected to attend a 4-hour self-learning session using Hanyu Pinyin instruction at the language computer laboratory. An questionnaire on user friendliness of the instruction is given to them to find out their first impression about the instruction. The finding shows that the majority of the students feel that Guru Hanyu Pinyin WBI is user friendl

This study sought to investigate factors influencing employee self-evaluated performance of Mara Institute of Technology in Perlis. Age, Gender, Job Experience, Organisational Commitment, Job Involvement are the independent variables under this study. The dependent variable is Employee Performance dimension. The instrument was pre-test for validity and reliability. The results yielded an internal consistency of Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.91 Descriptive Statistics, Pearson’s Correlation and Multiple Regression Analysis are used to investigate the relationship between Age, Gender, Job Experience, Organisational Commitment, Job Involvement with Employee Performance. The findings showed that there were significant and positive correlations between age, organisational commitment, job involvement and employee self evaluated performance. Multiple Regression Analysis has shown that 33.3% of the observed variability in employee self-evaluated performance could be explained by the five independent variables (age, gender, job experience, organisational commitment, job involvement). The best predictor of the employee self-evaluated performance was found to be job involvement

Hanyu Pinyin (Romanised Mandarin) is taught as part of the teaching Mandarin as a third language in UiTM. The time allocated to teach the sound system of Hanyu Pinyin is insufficient for learners. Hence, it is suggested a web-based instruction incorporate into the curriculum as a self-learning material for learners to enable them to manage their learning process in the absence of instructor. The objective of this paper is to describe the process of designing and developing a Hanyu Pinyin WBI to teach non-native learners (Malay Mandarin learners) in learning Mandarin at a Malaysian university (UiTM). The Hanyu Pinyin WBI is tailored to tackle the weaknesses and to meet the specific needs of Malay learners. Hanyu Pinyin WBI is designed on the basis of Instructional System Design (ISD) methodology. This approach involves four phases: (1) analysis and design, (2) development, (3) implementation, and (4) evaluation of the instruction

The Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW) continue to exert tremendous influence on our everyday lives. The use of the WWW as an instructional tool is gaining momentum as more teachers, instructors, and trainers incorporate it into their repertoire. Hanyu Pinyin (Romanised Mandarin) is used in the teaching and learning of Mandarin as a third language in UiTM. As the time allocated for teaching Hanyu Pinyin is insufficient for learners many of whom are exposed to Mandarin for the first time to satisfactorily comprehend the intricacies of its sound system, therefore it is necessary to devise some self-learning materials for learners to enable them to control and monitor their learning process in the absence of facilitator. In order to create a conducive self learning environment for learning Hanyu Pinyin, a web-based instruction was incorporated into the curriculum. Eventually, the effectiveness of the instruction was evaluated. The web- based Hanyu Pinyin instruction was constructed and evaluated on the basis of Instructional System Design methodology. Finally, this research discusses some limitations and constraints that were discovered and proposes some recommendations to overcome the limitations for the future research

In order to create an environment conducive for self learning Hanyu Pinyin, a web-based instruction is suggested to incorporate into the curriculum. This is an internet enabled web-based instruction. It generally applies to any kind of instructional materials delivered over the Internet accessed by browser-equipped computer users. The specify objective of this project is to design a web based instruction (WBI) especially for Bumiputra Mandarin learners. The WBI is the instructional materials that are used in the learning system that involves the network operation center (NOC), the WWW resources, the learners, instructors and the regularly conducted lectures of fulltime teaching staff. This instruction is designed on the basis of ISD (Instructional system design) methodology. This approach involves four phases; 1.analysis and design, 2.development, 3.implementation and 4.evaluation of the instruction. Eventually, the effectiveness of the instruction was evaluated. This research also discusses some limitations and constraints that were discovered, at the sometimes some recommendations are proposed to overcome the limitations for the future research
