Palynological study in Asplenium species (Aspleniaceae) from Argentina. The genus Asplenium L. is represented in Argentina by about 38 species, being its habit terrestrial, saxicolous or ephiphytic. In this contribution we complete the palynological study of the genus in this country. The material was processed according to standard techniques for observation under light and scanning electron microscopes. The spores are monolete, the wall formed by the homogeneous exospore, with smooth surface, and the camerate and folded perispore. Two types of folds, winged and ridged, are registered. A variability in the density of the perforations in the outer layer of the perispore, and the margin and sculptural elements of the folds and in the areas between them, are also observed. Spores of analyzed taxa are described and illustrated with pictures using scanning electron microscope.

Diversity of ferns and lycophytes from Calilegua National Park, Jujuy Province Argentina. The biogeographic province of the “Yungas” is considered by the UNESCO as a Biosphere Reserve. In this zone, Calilegua National Park is one of the “cores” of the Yungas, where ferns and lycophytes grow as epiphytic, terrestrial or saxicoulous in different environments. The aim of this study is to make known the ferns and lycophytes that inhabit in Calilegua National Park, in order to provide information on Yungas biodiversity. For this purpose, 5 field trips were performed during december-May 2007-2011. Voucher specimens were deposited in the following herbaria: JUA, LP and RCV. Other herbaria and specific bibliography were also consulted. According to this study 103 taxa (species and varieties) of ferns and lycophytes inhabit in Calilegua National Park, grouped in 18 families and 43 genera. Six species are first recorded for the Province of Jujuy. Nomenclatural updates and keys for taxa identification are also given.

Punta Lara Natural Reserve shelters the relict of the Southernmost riparian forest in the world, where the flora is threatened by the anthropic expansion and by the introduction of exotic species. In this area the ferns and lycophytes grow in particular environments as marshland, grassland and marginal forest. The aim of this work was to evaluate the diversity of ferns and lycophytes that inhabit in Punta Lara Natural Reserve. Field trips were conducted from 2006 to 2009 and local herbaria and specific bibliography were also revised. As a result of our study twenty four taxa of ferns and lycophytes were recognized. Their habit was mainly terrestrial (70%), fewer aquatic (17%) and epiphytic (13%). Five native taxa were scarcely recorded whereas two native species previously documented were not found. We assume that the main threats on ferns and lycophytes populations in Punta Lara Reserve are: removal for comercialization, invasion by exotic species and climatic fluctuations (drought periods). Keys for taxa identification are given and strategies for the conservation of threatened taxa are proposed
