Evaluation of Florida Physicians’ Knowledge and Attitudes Toward Accessing the State Prescription Drug Monitoring Program as a Prescribing Tool
Objective The purpose of this study is to assess Florida physicians\u27 attitudes and knowledge toward accessing the state\u27s prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP). Design Five thousand medical doctors and osteopathic physicians licensed in Florida were randomly selected for a voluntary and anonymous 15-question self-administered survey approved by the Institutional Review Board. Surveys were distributed through U.S. postal service mail. Likert-scale questions were used to assess prior knowledge (1 = none to 5 = excellent) and attitudes toward accessing the PDMP (1 = strongly disagree to 5 = strongly agree). Results The study yielded a response rate of 7.8%, 71.5% of whom agreed or strongly agreed that the PDMP is a useful tool. Among participants that have access and answered the PDMP usefulness question, 94.8% agree or strongly agree that it is a useful tool. There were 63 out of 64 physicians (98.4%) who conducted 25 or more searches who agreed or strongly agreed that the PDMP is a useful tool for monitoring patients\u27 controlled substance histories. There were 72.5% of participants with access that answered the “doctor shopping” question who agreed that “doctor shopping” will decrease. Among the 64 most frequent PDMP users, 69.4% agreed or strongly agreed that they have prescribed fewer controlled substances after accessing the PDMP. Conclusions The study revealed that a majority of participants believe that the PDMP is a useful tool for monitoring patients\u27 controlled substance histories. More continuing education programs should be provided to Florida physicians to enhance their knowledge regarding PDMPs
Stochastic Acceleration of Low Energy Electrons in Plasmas with Finite Temperature
This paper extends our earlier work on the acceleration of low-energy
electrons by plasma turbulence to include the effects of finite temperature of
the plasma. We consider the resonant interaction of thermal electrons with the
whole transverse branch of plasma waves propagating along the magnetic field.
We show that our earlier published results for acceleration of low-energy
electrons can be applied to the case of finite temperature if a sufficient
level of turbulence is present. From comparison of the acceleration rate of the
thermal particles with the decay rate of the waves with which they interact, we
determine the required energy density of the waves as a fraction of the
magnetic energy density, so that a substantial fraction of the background
plasma electrons can be accelerated. The dependence of this value on the plasma
parameter alpha = omega_pe / Omega_e (the ratio of electron plasma frequency to
electron gyrofrequency), plasma temperature, and turbulence spectral parameters
is quantified. We show that the result is most sensitive to the plasma
parameter alpha. We estimate the required level of total turbulence by
calculating the level of turbulence required for the initial acceleration of
thermal electrons and that required for further acceleration to higher
energies

Robust Linear Receiver Design for Multi-Access Space-Time Block Coded MIMO Systems Using stochastic Optimization
Traditional receiver algorithms developed for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless systems are based on the assumption that the channel state information (CSI) is precisely known at the receiver. However, in real environments the exact CSI may be unavailable. In this paper, we address the problem of robustness of multi-access spacetime block coded (STBC) MIMO systems against imperfect CSI. We propose a class of linear receivers which guarantee the robustness against CSI errors with a certain selected probability. The proposed formulations of robust receivers are given by probability-constrained optimization problems which can be simplified to convex forms. The latter convex problems can be efficiently solved using standard optimization methods. 1

Robust Linear Receivers for Space-Time Block Coded Multiaccess MIMO Systems With ImperfectChannel State Information
The problem of joint space-time decoding and interference rejection in multiple-access MIMO wireless communication systems is considered in the case of erroneous or limited channel state information (CSI) at the receiver. Linear beamforming-type techniques that have an improved robustness in such an imperfect CSI case are proposed. 1
