    Prevención y gestión de residuos sólidos urbanos en el Valle de Mazatepec

    En este periodo se trabajó fuertemente en la comunidad de Ahuisculco en colaboración con la asociación Selva Negra cuyos actores principales fueron: Lupita Zavala y René Velázquez, en donde se presentó la iniciativa de proyecto que habla sobre la gestión de residuos valorizables, el cual tuvo buen recibimiento por la comunidad y al presentarse al ejido se pudo conseguir una bodega que se planea utilizar a manera de centro comunitario de acopio de residuos sólidos urbanos; además de ello se consolidó una relación con la primaria Rafael Ramírez para la impartición de talleres y pláticas de educación ambiental, generando un plan de actividades autorizado por el Director Luis Cruz Alvarado y apoyado por la asociación Selva Negra. Este programa se plantea aplicar en el periodo de primavera 2022. A su vez, se trabajó en la comunidad de San Isidro Mazatepec donde se impartieron, diseñaron y gestionaron talleres de educación ambiental con los alumnos del COBAEJ con temas de compostaje, aprovechamiento de residuos, huertos en casa y colorantes naturales. También se organizó la rifa de un kit de separación de residuos orgánicos entre las comunidades de San Isidro y La Villita, con el objetivo de juntar fondos para poder remodelar e instalar puntos limpios en San Isidro y comenzar con la construcción de un punto de acopio de residuos en La Villita.ITESO, A.C

    Clonal chromosomal mosaicism and loss of chromosome Y in elderly men increase vulnerability for SARS-CoV-2

    The pandemic caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19) had an estimated overall case fatality ratio of 1.38% (pre-vaccination), being 53% higher in males and increasing exponentially with age. Among 9578 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 in the SCOURGE study, we found 133 cases (1.42%) with detectable clonal mosaicism for chromosome alterations (mCA) and 226 males (5.08%) with acquired loss of chromosome Y (LOY). Individuals with clonal mosaic events (mCA and/or LOY) showed a 54% increase in the risk of COVID-19 lethality. LOY is associated with transcriptomic biomarkers of immune dysfunction, pro-coagulation activity and cardiovascular risk. Interferon-induced genes involved in the initial immune response to SARS-CoV-2 are also down-regulated in LOY. Thus, mCA and LOY underlie at least part of the sex-biased severity and mortality of COVID-19 in aging patients. Given its potential therapeutic and prognostic relevance, evaluation of clonal mosaicism should be implemented as biomarker of COVID-19 severity in elderly people.     VIII Encuentro de Docentes e Investigadores en Historia del Diseño, la Arquitectura y la Ciudad

    Acta de congresoLa conmemoración de los cien años de la Reforma Universitaria de 1918 se presentó como una ocasión propicia para debatir el rol de la historia, la teoría y la crítica en la formación y en la práctica profesional de diseñadores, arquitectos y urbanistas. En ese marco el VIII Encuentro de Docentes e Investigadores en Historia del Diseño, la Arquitectura y la Ciudad constituyó un espacio de intercambio y reflexión cuya realización ha sido posible gracias a la colaboración entre Facultades de Arquitectura, Urbanismo y Diseño de la Universidad Nacional y la Facultad de Arquitectura de la Universidad Católica de Córdoba, contando además con la activa participación de mayoría de las Facultades, Centros e Institutos de Historia de la Arquitectura del país y la región. Orientado en su convocatoria tanto a docentes como a estudiantes de Arquitectura y Diseño Industrial de todos los niveles de la FAUD-UNC promovió el debate de ideas a partir de experiencias concretas en instancias tales como mesas temáticas de carácter interdisciplinario, que adoptaron la modalidad de presentación de ponencias, entre otras actividades. En el ámbito de VIII Encuentro, desarrollado en la sede Ciudad Universitaria de Córdoba, se desplegaron numerosas posiciones sobre la enseñanza, la investigación y la formación en historia, teoría y crítica del diseño, la arquitectura y la ciudad; sumándose el aporte realizado a través de sus respectivas conferencias de Ana Clarisa Agüero, Bibiana Cicutti, Fernando Aliata y Alberto Petrina. El conjunto de ponencias que se publican en este Repositorio de la UNC son el resultado de dos intensas jornadas de exposiciones, cuyos contenidos han posibilitado actualizar viejos dilemas y promover nuevos debates. El evento recibió el apoyo de las autoridades de la FAUD-UNC, en especial de la Secretaría de Investigación y de la Biblioteca de nuestra casa, como así también de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la UCC; va para todos ellos un especial agradecimiento

    Ambient noise tomography of El Hierro island (Canary Islands)

    El Hierro island is one of the most active islands in the Canary Islands from a volcanological point of view. This is the reason why the imaging of the internal crustal structure is of huge importance. The geophysical exploration methods employed on El Hierro Island, such as gravimetry and seismic tomography, allowed obtaining the high-resolution characterization of the crust’s deep part. However, these methods did not yield significant information about the surface and the shallower part of the crust. To gain a deeper insight into the shallow geological structure of El Hierro island, we employed Ambient Noise Tomography to construct a 3D S-wave velocity model. Our investigation revealed the presence of seven significant seismic velocity anomalies, partly identified by previous studies. We identified two high-velocity anomalies located in the eastern and western parts of the island at a depth between 0 and 3 km below sea level (b.s.l.). We interpreted these anomalies as dense intrusive complexes of dikes, possibly linked to the Tanganasoga volcano and the formation of the Tiñor edifice. Additionally, we observed two high-velocity anomalies in the northern and southern parts of the island at a depth between 3 and 4 km b.s.l., which we related to the accumulation of solidified igneous rocks. On the other hand, a low-velocity anomaly was observed in the Golfo valley, between 0 and 0.5 km b.s.l., and we interpreted it as megalandslide deposits. This anomaly was evidenced for the first time in the present study. Finally, two lowvelocity anomalies were observed in the southern part of the island at different depths, between 0–0.5 km b.s.l. and 0–2 km b.s.l. These were interpreted as fractures generated by Quaternary volcanism along the SSE Rift. Also, one of them was evidenced for the first time in this study, corresponding to the zone of the fractures produced during the Quaternary volcanism. This study has allowed us to gain a more detailed understanding of the shallow geological structure of the island.     Temporal variability of explosive activity at Tajogaite volcano, Cumbre Vieja (Canary Islands), 2021 eruption from ground-based infrared photography and videography

    The 2021 eruption at Tajogaite (Cumbre Vieja) volcano (La Palma, Spain) was characterized by Strombolian eruptions, Hawaiian fountaining, white gas-dominated and grey ash-rich plumes, and lava effusion from multiple vents. The variety of eruptive styles displayed simultaneously and throughout the eruption presents an opportunity to explore controls on explosivity and the relationship between explosive and effusive activity. Explosive eruption dynamics were recorded using ground-based thermal photography and videography. We show results from the analysis of short (<5 min) near-daily thermal videos taken throughout the eruption from multiple ground-based locations and continuous time-lapse thermal photos over the period November 16 to November 26. We measure the apparent radius, velocity, and volume flux of the high-temperature gas-and-ash jet and lava fountaining behaviors to investigate the evolution of the explosive activity over multiple time scales (seconds-minutes, hours, and days-weeks). We find fluctuations in volume flux of explosive material that correlate with changes in volcanic tremor and hours-long increases in explosive flux that are immediately preceded by increases in lava effusion rate. Correlated behavior at multiple vents suggests dynamic magma ascent pathways connected in the shallow (tens to hundreds of meters) sub-surface. We interpret the changes in explosivity and the relative amounts of effusive and explosivity to be the result of changes in gas flux and the degree of gas coupling

    Aquifer Recharge Estimation through Atmospheric Chloride Mass Balance at Las Cañadas Caldera, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain

    The atmospheric chloride mass balance (CMB) method was used to estimate net aquifer recharge in Las Cañadas Caldera, an endorheic summit aquifer area about 2000 m a.s.l. with negligible surface runoff, which hosts the largest freshwater reserve in Tenerife Island, Canary Islands, Spain. The wet hydrological year 2005–2006 was selected to compare yearly atmospheric chloride bulk deposition and average chloride content in recharge water just above the water table, both deduced from periodical sampling. The potential contribution of chloride to groundwater from endogenous HCl gas may invalidate the CMB method. The chloride-to-bromide molar ratio was an efficient tracer used to select recharge water samples having atmospheric origin of chloride. Yearly net aquifer recharge was 631 mm year−1, i.e., 69% of yearly precipitation. This result is in agreement with potential aquifer recharge estimated through an independent lumped-parameter rainfall-runoff model operated by the Insular Water Council of Tenerife.
