Curable polyphosphazenes
Class of polyphosphazene polymers can be cured at moderate temperatures by action of moisture. In addition, polymers maintain flexibility when exposed to low temperatures
High temperature polymer from maleimide-acetylene terminated monomers
Thermally stable, glassy polymeric materials were prepared from maleimide-acetylene terminated monomeric materials by several methods. The monomers were heated to self-polymerize. The A-B structure of the monomer allowed it to polymerize with either bismaleimide monomers/oligomers or bis-acetylene monomers/oligomers. Copolymerization can also take place by mixing bismaleimide and bisacetylene monomers/oligomers with the maleimide-acetylene terminated monomers to yield homogenous glassy polymers
Crosslinked polyimides prepared from N-(3-ethynylphenyl)maleimide
The compound N-(3-ethynylphenyl)maleimide (NEPMI) was used to prepare thermally stable, glassy polyimides which did not exhibit glass transition temperatures below 500 C. NEPMI was blended with the maleimide of methylene dianiline (BMI) and heated to form the polyimide. NEPMI was also mixed with Thermid 600 R, a commercially available bisethynyl oligomeric material, and heated to form a thermally stable, glassy polyimide. Lastly, NEPMI was blended with both BMI and Thermid 600 R to form thermally stable, glassy polyimides
Antiferromagnetic order in CeCoIn5 oriented by spin-orbital coupling
An incommensurate spin density wave ( phase) confined inside the
superconducting state at high basal plane magnetic field is an unique property
of the heavy fermion metal CeCoIn. The neutron scattering experiments and
the theoretical studies point out that this state come out from the soft mode
condensation of magnetic resonance excitations. We show that the fixation of
direction of antiferromagnetic modulations by a magnetic field reported by
Gerber et al., Nat. Phys. {\bf 10}, 126 (2014) is explained by spin-orbit
coupling. This result, obtained on the basis of quite general phenomenological
arguments, is supported by the microscopic derivation of the
susceptibility dependence on the mutual orientation of the basal plane magnetic
field and the direction of modulation of spin polarization in a multi-band
metal.Comment: 7 pages plus 2 pages with 2 figure
Polyimides prepared from 3,5-diamino benzo trifluoride
High performance, thermooxidatively stable polyimides are prepared by reacting aromatic diamines with pendant trifluoromethyl groups and dianhydrides in an amide solvent to form a poly(amic acid), followed by cyclizing the poly(amic acid) to form the corresponding polyimide
Isomeric oxydiphthalic anhydride polyimides
Much of the polyimide research at Langley Research Center has focused on isomeric modification of the diamine component; polyimides having considerably improved processability and adhesion have resulted. The present structure-property study was designed to investigate how isomeric attachment of the three oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) polyimides affects their properties. Each dianhydride, 3,4,3',4'-oxydiphthalic anhydride (4,4'-OPDA,I), 2,3,2',3'-oxydiphthalic anhydride (3,3'-ODPA,II), and 2,3,3',4'-oxydiphthalic anhydride (3,4'-OPDA,III), was reacted with p-phenylenediamine, 4,4'-oxydianiline, 3,3'-diaminodiphenylsulfone, 3,3'-diaminobenzophenone, and 4,4'-bis(3-aminophenoxy)benzophenone in DMAc. The inherent viscosities of the resulting poly(amic acids) were determined. Thermally imidized films were studied for their creasability and solubility, as well as by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and wide angle X-ray scattering (WAXS). A comparison of these properties will be made
Development of thermally stable phosphonitrile elastomers for advanced aerospace structures
Both high and low molecular weight, curable poly(fluoroalkoxy phosphazene) terpolymers were prepared. These terpolymers resulted from reaction of (Cl2PNn) polymer with alkoxides derived from CF3CH2OH and C3F7CH2OH, and an alkoxide derived from CH3CH(OH)C2H4OH. The terpolymers were crosslinked with polyisocyanates at room temperature. High molecular weight materials were converted into isocyanate prepolymers which as films underwent moisture cures at room temperature. Prepolymer solutions were stable for several days, and showed good adhesion. Also the effects of polymerization of (Cl2PN)3 were studied. Purified octachlorophosphazene, thiocyanate salts, or hydrogen chloride were employed in attempts to decrease molecular weight. Hydrogen chloride was found to be a good agent for preparation of low molecular weight poly(dichloro phosphazene)
Transverse "resistance overshoot" in a Si/SiGe two-dimensional electron gas in the quantum Hall effect regime
We investigate the peculiarities of the "overshoot" phenomena in the
transverse Hall resistance R_{xy} in Si/SiGe. Near the low magnetic field end
of the quantum Hall effect plateaus, when the filling factor \nu approaches an
integer i, R_{xy} overshoots the normal plateau value h/ie^2. However, if
magnetic field B increases further, R_{xy} decreases to its normal value. It is
shown that in the investigated sample n-Si/Si_{0.7}Ge_{0.3}, overshoots exist
for almost all \nu. Existence of overshoot in R_{xy} observed in different
materials and for different \nu, where splitting of the adjacent Landau bands
has different character, hints at the common origin of this effect. Comparison
of the experimental curves R_{xy}(\nu) for \nu = 3 and \nu = 5 with and without
overshoot showed that this effect exist in the whole interval between plateaus,
not only in the region where R_{xy} exceeds the normal plateau value.Comment: 3 pages, 5 EPS figure
