A conjugation CC on a separable complex Hilbert space H\mathcal H is an antilinear operator that is isometric and involutive. In this notes, we characterize all conjugations on the Hardy-Hilbert space H2H^{2} over the disk. In addition, we characterize complex symmetric Toeplitz operators with a special type of these conjugations.Comment:

Abdominal tumors that can grow through vascular lumen and spread to the right heart are rare. Although these tumors have different histologic aspects, they may cause similar abdominal and cardiac symptoms and are a serious risk factor for pulmonary embolism and sudden death when they reach the right atrium and tricuspid valve. The best treatment is radical surgical resection of the entire tumor using cardiopulmonary bypass with or without deep hypothermia and total circulatory arrest. We report the cases of two patients, the first with leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava and the other with intravenous leiomyomatosis of the uterus that showed intravascular growth up to right atrium and ventricle, who underwent successful radical resection in a one-stage procedure with the use of cardiopulmonary bypass. We discuss the clinical and histologic aspects and imaging diagnosis and review the literature.

Lentil-based snack: development and nutritious properties

    Get PDF
Legume grains provide not only a unique nutrient profile essential for good human health, such as protein, fiber, carbohydrates, fatty acids, minerals, vitamins, and phenolic compounds, but they also provide excellent environmental benefits. Besides, they adapt to contemporary food patterns, like flexitarian, vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free. However, legume consumption continues to be less than desired, opening new opportunities for different intake alternatives. Furthermore, due to agriculture growth and unbalanced animal consumption the food industry aims to increase and diversify alternative protein formulations. Amongst the legumes, lentils have a fast-cooking time, high arginine, antioxidant flavonoids, and a low glycemic index which helps avoid peaks in blood glucose, improving metabolic control, and recent epidemiological studies suggest that they may help combat cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus, both with high prevalence worldwide. Based on this knowledge, we developed a muffin in which commercial oatmeal was partially substituted with lentil flour. The nutritional value of the snack was evaluated, and it was also performed microbiological analyses. The lentil-based muffin had higher protein and fiber and lower carbohydrate content compared to the oatmeal-based muffin. The aim of these muffins is that they are suitable for all consumers, including diabetics. This project seeks to be a central element in the promotion of one of the oldest grain legumes, contributing to an increase in its consumption and consequent commercial valorization.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Hybrid capture is an easy and highly sensitive technique for screening population due to its capacity to detect malignant and premalignant lesions of the cervix. To evaluate its ensitivity, we investigated the frequency of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and its correlation with glandular malignant lesions, analyzing a total of 113 cases of adenocarcinomas and related lesions. High-risk HPV was investigated using a hybrid capture II (HC2) assay. Samples were collected in two different ways: either brushed directly from surgical specimens before fixation or collected from the patients. We also investigated the frequency of HPV in squamous malignant lesions, 65 squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) and 66 in situ squamous cell carcinomas (ISSCC), to compare the occurrence of HPV for these lesions. The 113 glandular lesions comprised 62 invasive adenocarcinomas (IAC), 8 in situ adenocarcinomas (ISAC), 26 IAC plus SCC, and 17 adenosquamous cells carcinomas (ASCC). The HPV-positive reactions were as follows: 51 (82.2%) in IAC, 8 (100%) in ISAC, 25 (96.1%) in IAC plus SCC, and 14 (82.3%) in ASCC. HC2-positive results in the squamous malignant lesions were as follows: 58 of 63 (89.0%) for SCC and 94 of 103 (91.2%) for ISSCC. High-risk HPV infection was quite similar for glandular and pure squamous invasive malignant lesions, 82.2% and 89.0%, respectively, indicating that high-risk HPV is also highly prevalent in glandular lesions. Although hybrid capture proved to be an excellent adjunctive technique, we do not believe its results merit replacing the Pap smear as a screening tool

Voxel-based investigations of regional cerebral blood flow abnormalities in Alzheimer's disease using a single-detector SPECT system

PURPOSE: To evaluate the feasibility of using the Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) program for an automated, voxel-by-voxel assessment of regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) deficits in Alzheimer's disease (AD) subjects relative to age-matched controls studied with a conventional, single-detector SPECT system. METHODS: We used a databank of 99mTc-HMPAO images of 19 patients with a diagnosis of probable AD and 15 elderly healthy volunteers; data were acquired using an Orbiter-Siemens single-detector SPECT system. Using SPM, images were transformed spatially, smoothed (12mm), and the data were compared on a voxel-by-voxel basis with t-tests. RESULTS: There were significant rCBF reductions in AD patients relative to controls involving regions predicted a priori to be affected in AD, namely the left temporal and parietal neocortices, and the right posterior cingulate gyrus (pOBJETIVO: Avaliar a viabilidade de emprego do programa Statistical Parametric Mapping (SPM) para investigar de forma automatizada, voxel-a-voxel, a presença de déficits de fluxo sanguíneo cerebral regional (FSCr) em pacientes com doença de Alzheimer (DA) comparados a sujeitos-controle pareados para idade, usando imagens de SPECT adquiridas com um equipamento convencional de detector único.

Ochna serrulata (Ochnaceae) is an ornamental plant introduced into Brazil from Asia and Africa. Species of the Ochna genus are rich in phenolic compounds, mainly flavonoids. The biological screening of extracts and fractions showed that this plant exhibited a significant antioxidant activity, when evaluated by the DPPH and reducing potential assays. Ochna serrulata also demonstrated slight toxic activity against Artemia salina and a potential inhibitory allelopathic activity, when evaluated using the Lactuca sativa seed germination test. The ethyl acetate fraction, the most active one, was partitioned on a silica gel column to obtain epicatechin, which showed potential antioxidant activity.Colegio de Farmacéuticos de la Provincia de Buenos Aire
