Medium-term impact of daily heat pump load profiles to forecast congestion of distribution network assets
The rapid increase of residential heat pumps (HPs) being installed has a major impact on the required capacity of distribution networks. To avoid congestion of assets, an efficient reinforcement strategy is required that can calculate the impact of residential HPs and identify assets at risk of congestion. Therefore, this paper proposes a methodology that indicates the influence of intra-annual variation on the impact of distribution network assets and calculates the frequency, power, and duration of congestion events. First, this paper proposes a methodology to calculate daily aggregated electric load profiles (AELPs) with an hourly resolution and an annual time horizon of 36 residential HPs. Second, the daily AELPs were aggregated with a medium to low voltage (MV/LV) transformer loading. The annual normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) of the MV/LV transformer with the HPs of the training set was 8.4%. The accuracy was verified with 20 other residential HPs where the annual NRMSE was 5.7%. Finally, the accuracy of the calculated frequency, power, and duration of the congestion events from the HPs of the test set was analyzed per month.</p
A general assessment of environmental and biological features of Windermere and their susceptibility to change
Bassenthwaite (Lake) is one of the larger Cumbrian lakes, certainly one of the most distinctive, and of considerable conservation and amenity value. Although its shores lack sizeable settlements, its main inflow receives sewage effluent from a major tourist centre (Keswick) and is subject to episodic floods. These influences, the growing development of leisure activities at the lake (e.g. sailing, time-share units), and recent road-construction, have led to past appraisals of ecological impacts and lake management. The lake has not been the subject of intense and long-term ecological study, but much scattered information exists that is relevant to future management decisions. In the present Report, commissioned by North West Water, such information - published and unpublished - is surveyed. Especial attention is given to evidence bearing on susceptibility to change, affecting the lake environment and its biota or species of conservation interest. Extensive use has been made of the results of a recent (1986-7) seasonal survey by the FBA
A longitudinal investigation of repressive coping and ageing

Virtual Compton Scattering and Neutral Pion Electroproduction in the Resonance Region up to the Deep Inelastic Region at Backward Angles
We have made the first measurements of the virtual Compton scattering (VCS)
process via the H exclusive reaction in the nucleon resonance
region, at backward angles. Results are presented for the -dependence at
fixed GeV, and for the -dependence at fixed near 1.5 GeV.
The VCS data show resonant structures in the first and second resonance
regions. The observed -dependence is smooth. The measured ratio of
H to H cross sections emphasizes the different
sensitivity of these two reactions to the various nucleon resonances. Finally,
when compared to Real Compton Scattering (RCS) at high energy and large angles,
our VCS data at the highest (1.8-1.9 GeV) show a striking -
independence, which may suggest a transition to a perturbative scattering

UV emission from young and middle-aged pulsars: Connecting X-rays with the optical
We present the UV spectroscopy and timing of three nearby pulsars (Vela,
B0656+14 and Geminga) recently observed with the Space Telescope Imaging
Spectrograph. We also review the optical and X-ray properties of these pulsars
and establish their connection with the UV properties. We show that the
multiwavelengths properties of neutron stars (NSs) vary significantly within
the sample of middle-aged pulsars. Even larger differences are found between
the thermal components of Ge-minga and B0656+14 as compared to those of
radio-quiet isolated NSs. These differences could be attributed to different
