Influence of Behavioral Patterns on Academic Performance- Comparison between Students of the Morning session and Afternoon session at the College of Health Sciences (CHS), Kingdom of Bahrain.
Three hundred and two Nursing and Allied Health students attending either Morning or Afternoon session at the College of Health Sciences, Kingdom of Bahrain, were compared on their academic performance and behavioral patterns vis-à-vis, eating, sleeping, study time, recreation and family interaction. The questionnaire survey revealed significant differences between the two groups on many variables. A relatively greater proportion of the afternoon session students did not take breakfast and lunch. There was a highly significant difference between the wakeup time on weekdays and holidays. Excluding test days, a mean of 15.62 hours per week of outside class study time was estimated. Recreational activities were mainly sedentary in nature. Students spent 3.84 hours (mean) per day for sedentary recreational activities

Detailed of X-ray diffraction and photoluminescence studies of Ce doped ZnO nanocrystals
Pristine and Ce doped ZnO nanopowders were synthesized by simple refluxing technique. A detailed X-ray diffraction analysis was carried out to evaluate the contribution of dopant ion concentration on strain and lattice parameters. A particle size of 20 nm was obtained via TEM studies. Spherical morphology was obtained for Ce doped ZnO nanocrystals. Multiple emission bands were observed for pristine and doped ZnO samples where, 401 nm emission band corresponds to a contribution due to free excitons recombination through an exciton–exciton collisions. With the Ce addition, the surface defects increases and the emission intensity decreases

Study on the determination of molecular distance in organic dye mixtures using dual beam thermal lens technique
A sensitive method based on the principle of photothermal phenomena to study the energy transfer processes in organic dye mixtures is presented. A dual beam thermal lens method can be very effectively used as an alternate technique to determine the molecular distance between donor and acceptor in fluorescein–rhodamine B mixture using optical parametric oscillator.Cochin University of Science and Technolog
Studies on Fluorescence Efficiency and Photodegradation of Rhodamine 6G Doped PMMA Using a Dual Beam Thermal Lens Technique
In this paper we report the use of the dual beam thermal lens technique as a quantitative
method to determine absolute fluorescence quantum efficiency and concentration
quenching of fluorescence emission from rhodamine 6G doped Poly(methyl
methacrylate) (PMMA), prepared with different concentrations of the dye. A
comparison of the present data with that reported in the literature indicates that the
observed variation of fluorescence quantum yield with respect to the dye
concentration follows a similar profile as in the earlier reported observations on
rhodamine 6G in solution. The photodegradation of the dye molecules under cw laser
excitation is also studied using the present method.Cochin University of Science & Technolog
Prevalence of metabolic syndrome in women with polycystic ovary syndrome attending an infertility clinic in a tertiary care hospital in south India
Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of metabolic syndrome in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Setting: Infertility clinic in a tertiary care hospital. Study Design: A prospective cross-sectional study. Materials and Methods: All the women attending the infertility clinic categorized as polycystic ovary syndrome according to Rotterdam criteria (2003) during the study period were included in the study. The women with PCOS underwent screening for metabolic syndrome as defined by the modified American Heart Association/National Heart Lung Blood Institute (AHA/NHLBI) modified ATP 111 (2005) definition. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was applied and significant predictors identified for the prediction of metabolic syndrome. Results: The overall prevalence of metabolic syndrome according to the modified AHA/NHLBI ATP III (2005) criteria was 37.5%. A total of 5.8 % cases were detected to have diabetes mellitus, 8.3% had impaired fasting glucose, and 11.7 % had an impaired glucose test. Dyslipidemia was present in 93.3% cases of PCOS. Among all the risk factors, age and waist hip ratio ≥0.85 were strongly associated with the presence of metabolic syndrome. Conclusion: Infertile women with PCOS, particularly those with age ≥25 years or with central obesity (a waist hip ratio of ≥0.85), are at a higher risk of developing metabolic syndrome and should be offered screening tests
Thermal characterisation of doped InP using photoacoustic technique
An open cell photoacoustic configuration has been employed to evaluate the thermal diffusivity of pure InP as well as InP doped with sulphur and iron. Chopped optical radiation at 488 nm from an Ar-ion laser has been used to excite photoacoustic signals which been detected by a sensitive electret microphone. Thermal diffusivity value have been calculated from phase versus chopping frequency plots. Doped sample are found to show a reduced value for thermal diffusivity in comparison with intrinsically pure sample. The results have been interpreted in terms of the mechanisms of heat generation and transmission in semiconductors.Cochin University of Science and Technolog
Studies on Two-Photon Absorption of Aniline Using Thermal Lens Effect
Two-photon absorption spectrum of aniline is recorded using thermal lens effect with
optical parametric oscillator as the pump source. Studies show that the two-photon
absorption spectrum observed corresponds to I Al -. I B2 transition of aniline.Cochin University of Science & Techrtolog
Evaluating shrub architectural performance in sun and shade environments with the 3-D model Y-plant: Are there optimal strategies?
The wavelength dependence of thermal lens signal from organic dyes are studied using dual beam thermal lens
technique. It is found that the profile of thermal lens spectrum widely differ from the conventional absorption spectrum
in the case of rhodamine B unlike in the case of crystal violet. This is explained on the basis of varying contribution of
nonradiative relaxations from the excited vibronic levels.Cochin University of Science & Technolog
