Tribological aspect of lubrication in form tapping of high strength steel

Collaboration avec le LTDSThis study aims at analyzing the tribochemical mechanisms of lubrication during the process of form tapping and consequently optimizing the formulation of the lubricant. In order to correlate the tribochemical reactions with the performance of a lubricant, we measure the alteration of tapping torque according to ASTM D5619 standard. The objective of the study also relates to the identification of the additives and the association of their properties to the performance of lubrication. The goal is to characterize the nature of the tribofilm created at the bottom of the threads which is the zone the most severely affected by the working tool. X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) is used to characterize the surface of formed threads. El papel socioeconómico de las universidades parisinas medievales a través de la base de datos Studium Parisiense

Studium Parisiense is a database which intends to identify all the students and masters of Paris university. With nearly 20000 files, it may be half-way. We have tested this results in exploring the impact of the college system in medieval Paris. A chronological trend appears: the development of the college system in the 14th century is a more efficient solution to accommodate the growing academic population than the creation of the Augustinian canons houses (12th century), and of the mendicant convents (13th century). On the other hand, both in terms of international recruitment and of literary outputs, Paris colleges were inferior institutions, with the exception of the Sorbonne. However, it helped to provide better conditions of study and to discipline the student’s population on the left banks of the Seine, and by the end of the fifteenth century, Paris colleges had increased their reputation and attracted again European students.college; university; Paris; mendicant convents; studentsStudium Parisiense es una base de datos cuyo objetivo es el de identificar a todos los estudiantes y maestros de la Universidad de París. Aún por concluir, cuenta hoy con 20000 fichas. En base a estos datos, se ha intentado medir el impacto del sistema de colegios mayores en el París medieval. El resultado logrado apunta a una tendencia cronológica: el desarrollo del sistema de colegios mayores en el siglo XIV resulta ser una solución más eficaz para acoger a la creciente población académica que la creación de casas de canónigos agustinos (siglo XII) y la de conventos mendicantes (siglo XIII). Por otro lado, tanto en términos de reclutamiento internacional como de producción literaria, salvo la excepción de la Sorbona, los colegios mayores parisinos no dejaban de ser instituciones de segundo nivel. Optical chirality without optical activity: How surface plasmons give a twist to light

Light interacts differently with left and right handed three dimensional chiral objects, like helices, and this leads to the phenomenon known as optical activity. Here, by applying a polarization tomography, we show experimentally, for the first time in the visible domain, that chirality has a different optical manifestation for twisted planar nanostructured metallic objects acting as isolated chiral metaobjects. Our analysis demonstrate how surface plasmons, which are lossy bidimensional electromagnetic waves propagating on top of the structure, can delocalize light information in the just precise way for giving rise to this subtle effect.Comment: Opt. The British Isles have been occupied by different populations in different times. In the historical times, Celts, Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Scandinavian and Norman French have succeeded each other in turn. The Anglo-Saxons have created the regnum Anglorum, which the Normans duly conquered in 1066. But, whatever the ethnic differences, a common English identity was soon recognized by their neighbours: to accept this fact discards the old debate Normans vs Anglo-Saxon, but makes it compulsory to face the consequences of domination, conquest and imperialism on the British Isles. The English identity was certainly reinforced by constructing the “otherness” of those excluded as Barbarians.
