Effective heat transport systems in aerospace are based on multiphase loop heat pipes (LHPs). For a precise thermal control of the electronics, electrical heaters are additionally used to control the operating temperature of the LHP. This work focusses on the dynamical modeling and model-based control design for LHP-based heat transport systems. The results of this work can be used for the optimization of current control parameters and the efficient control design for future LHP applications

Sourcing, Risk and the Financial Market

Outsourcing has become a commonly accepted alternative of strategic management. But how do stockholders rate the corporate decision to divest parts of the former business? We study the stock market reaction of outsourcing announcements of the global financial services industry, using event study methodology and multivariate cross-sectional regression analysis. We analyze a sample of 162 outsourcing transactions between 1997 and 2004 in order to investigate the drivers of excess returns to shareholders of outsourcers and insourcers in the global financial services industry. The analysis studies the impact of independent variables, the driving factors. Our findings indicate that many of these factors have significant explanatory power, indicating that capital market’s reaction to an outsourcing announcement might at least partly be forecasted. Partnering with experienced service providers significantly benefits the outsourcer. Evidence indicates that insourcers significantly benefit from large deals and transactions relating to traditional IT processes

Natural forest regrowth as a proxy variable for agricultural land abandonment in the Swiss mountains: a spatial statistical model based on geophysical and socio-economic variables

In many European mountain regions, natural forest regrowth on abandoned agricultural land and the related consequences for the environment are issues of increasing concern. We developed a spatial statistical model based on multiple geophysical and socio-economic variables to investigate the pattern of natural forest regrowth in the Swiss mountain area between the 1980s and 1990s. Results show that forest regrowth occurred primarily in areas with low temperature sum, intermediate steepness and soil stoniness as well as close to forest edges and relatively close to roads. Model results suggest that regions with weak labor markets are favored in terms of land abandonment and forest regrowth. We could not find an effect of population change on land abandonment and forest regrowth. Therefore, we conclude that decision makers should consider non-linearities in the pattern of forest regrowth and the fact that labor markets have an effect on land abandonment and forest regrowth when designing measures to prevent agricultural land abandonment and natural forest regrowth in the Swiss mountain

TESTING OF AUTOMATED DRIVING SYSTEMS

The automated driving requires new testing approaches, which are more complex than the current testing systems. The complexity and requirements for accuracy is important, because of interconnection of virtual with physical testing. This paper presents a generic approach to testing of automated driving functions and demonstrates its implementation on measurement of two scenarios.Automatizované řízení vyžaduje nové testovací přístupy, které jsou daleko komplexnější než současné testovací systémy. Komplexnost a požadavky na přesnost jsou důležité z pohledu na propojení fyzického a virtuálního testování.
