    A Comparative Study of e-Tail Service Quality Scale in USA and India

    The purpose of this research is to measure the e-tail service quality of online retailers by considering survey responses from two different geographical locations, USA and India. This research focuses primarily on (i) Collecting data and performing factor analysis to refine initial scale items, developed by Qianqian, followed by reliability tests for checking the scale\u27s validity by considering responses received from survey participants in two different geographical regions; (ii) Testing of hypothesis based on the construct of the scale items of the initial scale and the scale obtained in this research; (iii) Performing regression analysis to demonstrate the impact of factors on the overall e-tail service quality. Based on Qianqian\u27s initial scale items, the questionnaire was slightly modified to accommodate changes related to mobile e-tailing. Data was collected and analyzed further through item analysis and exploratory factor analysis. The scale is later tested for its reliability and validity, followed by regression analysis. Results revealed a variation in scale parameters when a global sample is considered. This research is based on the assumption that the key to improving customers\u27 online purchasing decisions is improving e-service quality, which in turn has a significant effect on transaction results.     In vitro plant regeneration from leaf explants of Withania somnifera (L) Dunal (Ashwaganda) - an important medicinal plant

    Withania somnifera (L) Dunal (Ashwaganda) is a Solanaceous herb having numerous medicinal values widely used in traditional Ayurvedic drug preparations. An efficient protocol for in vitro plant regeneration via direct adventitious shoot proliferation from leaf explants of Ashwaganda is developed. MS medium containing 1.5mg/l BAP and 1.5mg/l IAA was found to be the best medium for maximum in vitro response i.e., 100(% shooting) and 68(shoots/explant). An improved in vitro shoot bud elongation and rooting was achieved on MS medium fortified with 0.15mg/l GA3 and 5mg/l IBA  respectively. Rooted plants were hardened and transplanted in earthen pots and were showed 80-90% survival during transplantation

    Evaluation of pulmonary and systemic toxicity following lung exposure to graphite nanoplates: a member of the graphene-based nanomaterial family

    Background: Graphene, a monolayer of carbon, is an engineered nanomaterial (ENM) with physical and chemical properties that may offer application advantages over other carbonaceous ENMs, such as carbon nanotubes (CNT). The goal of this study was to comparatively assess pulmonary and systemic toxicity of graphite nanoplates, a member of the graphene-based nanomaterial family, with respect to nanoplate size. Methods: Three sizes of graphite nanoplates [20 μm lateral (Gr20), 5 μm lateral (Gr5), and \u3c2 \u3eμm lateral (Gr1)] ranging from 8–25 nm in thickness were characterized for difference in surface area, structure,, zeta potential, and agglomeration in dispersion medium, the vehicle for in vivo studies. Mice were exposed by pharyngeal aspiration to these 3 sizes of graphite nanoplates at doses of 4 or 40 μg/mouse, or to carbon black (CB) as a carbonaceous control material. At 4 h, 1 day, 7 days, 1 month, and 2 months post-exposure, bronchoalveolar lavage was performed to collect fluid and cells for analysis of lung injury and inflammation. Particle clearance, histopathology and gene expression in lung tissue were evaluated. In addition, protein levels and gene expression were measured in blood, heart, aorta and liver to assess systemic responses. Results: All Gr samples were found to be similarly composed of two graphite structures and agglomerated to varying degrees in DM in proportion to the lateral dimension. Surface area for Gr1 was approximately 7-fold greater than Gr5 and Gr20, but was less reactive reactive per m2 . At the low dose, none of the Gr materials induced toxicity. At the high dose, Gr20 and Gr5 exposure increased indices of lung inflammation and injury in lavage fluid and tissue gene expression to a greater degree and duration than Gr1 and CB. Gr5 and Gr20 showed no or minimal lung epithelial hypertrophy and hyperplasia, and no development of fibrosis by 2 months post-exposure. In addition, the aorta and liver inflammatory and acute phase genes were transiently elevated in Gr5 and Gr20, relative to Gr1. Conclusions: Pulmonary and systemic toxicity of graphite nanoplates may be dependent on lateral size and/or surface reactivity, with the graphite nanoplates \u3e 5 μm laterally inducing greater toxicity which peaked at the early time points post-exposure relative to the 1–2 μm graphite nanoplate

    Folate, vitamin B12, ferritin and haemoglobin levels among women of childbearing age from a rural district in South India

    BackgroundLow folate and vitamin B12 levels have negative effect on pregnancy outcomes but there is paucity of data on their levels among Indian women. Ferritin and haemoglobin are associated with maternal mortality and low birth-weight. Our aim was to estimate the prevalence of deficiency of serum folate and vitamin B12, and low levels of serum ferritin and blood haemoglobin among women of childbearing age from a rural population of South India.MethodsWe conducted a community-based cross-sectional study among 15-35 year women in a rural district. We used multistage stratified random sampling. Trained staff interviewed women to collect socio-demographic information and draw blood samples. We analysed samples for serum folate, vitamin B12, ferritin and blood haemoglobin levels and computed means and medians. We computed the proportion of deficiency based on cut-offs recommended by WHO. We examined the association of levels with age, parity and current pregnancy or breastfeeding by multi-variable regression using Stata 13.0.ResultsWe recruited 979 women. One-fifth (185, 19%) were pregnant and one-fifth (196, 20%)were breastfeeding. Median serum folate levels were 2.5 ng/ml (IQR, 1.2-4.8), median vitamin B12 levels were 228.0 pg/ml (IQR, 121 - 390), median ferritin levels were 13.0 μg/l (IQR, 6.0 - 20.0) and median blood haemoglobin levels were 12.1 mg/dl (IQR, 10.7 – 13.6). Low levels of serum folate, vitamin B12, ferritin and haemoglobin were found in 57% (95% CI, 54-60%), 44% (95% CI, 41-48%), 46% (95% CI, 43-49%) and 28% (95% CI, 25-31%) respectively. Women with folic acid deficiency had two times higher prevalence of having vitamin B12 deficiency. In adjusted regression analysis folate levels were lower in older and breastfeeding women, but not associated with parity and were higher among pregnant women. Similar associations were not found with Vitamin B12 deficiency. Ferritin levels were higher in older women; but not associated with parity, pregnancy or breastfeeding. Haemoglobin levels were lower in pregnant and breastfeeding women.ConclusionOur findings suggest that folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron deficiency are important public health problems in India. We observed that half of the women of childbearing age were deficient in these nutrients. Folic acid and vitamin B12 deficiencies co-exist and should be supplemented together

    Impact of COVID-19 during pregnancy on placental pathology, maternal and neonatal outcome – A cross-sectional study on anemic term pregnant women from a tertiary care hospital in southern India

    BackgroundSARS-CoV-2 infection during pregnancy may cause adverse maternal, neonatal and placental outcomes. While tissue hypoxia is often reported in COVID-19 patients, pregnant women with anemia are suspected to be more prone to placental hypoxia-related injuries.MethodsThis hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted between August-November 2021, during COVID-19 second wave in India. Term pregnant women (N=212) admitted to hospital for delivery were enrolled consecutively. Since hospital admission mandated negative RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 virus, none had active infection. Data on socio-demography, COVID-19 history, maternal, obstetric, and neonatal outcomes were recorded. Pre-delivery maternal and post-delivery cord blood samples were tested for hematological parameters and SARS-CoV-2 IgG. Placentae were studied for histology.ResultsOf 212 women, 122 (58%) were seropositive for SARS-CoV-2 IgG, but none reported COVID-19 history; 134 (63.2%) were anemic. In seropositive women, hemoglobin (p=0.04), total WBC (p=0.009), lymphocytes (p=0.005) and neutrophils (p=0.02) were significantly higher, while ferritin was high, but not significant and neutrophils to lymphocytes (p=0.12) and platelets to lymphocytes ratios (p=0.03) were lower. Neonatal outcomes were similar. All RBC parameters and serum ferritin were significantly lower in anemic mothers but not in cord blood, except RDW that was significantly higher in both, maternal (p=0.007) and cord (p=0.008) blood from seropositive anemic group compared to other groups. Placental histology showed significant increase in villous hypervascularity (p=0.000), dilated villous capillaries (p=0.000), and syncytiotrophoblasts (p=0.02) in seropositive group, typically suggesting placental hypoxia. Maternal anemia was not associated with any histological parameters. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses of placental histopathological adverse outcomes showed strong association with SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity but not with maternal anemia. When adjusted for several covariates, including anemia, SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity emerged as independent risk factor for severe chorangiosis (AOR 8.74, 95% CI 3.51-21.76, p<0.000), dilated blood vessels (AOR 12.74, 95% CI 5.46-29.75, p<0.000), syncytiotrophoblasts (AOR 2.86, 95% CI 1.36-5.99, p=0.005) and villus agglutination (AOR 9.27, 95% CI 3.68-23.32, p<0.000).ConclusionAsymptomatic COVID-19 during pregnancy seemed to be associated with various abnormal placental histopathologic changes related to placental hypoxia independent of maternal anemia status. Our data supports an independent role of SARS-CoV-2 in causing placental hypoxia in pregnant women

    Development of early maturing salt-tolerant rice variety KKL(R) 3 using a combination of conventional and molecular breeding approaches

    Introduction: Soil salinity poses a severe threat to rice production, resulting in stunted growth, leaf damage, and substantial yield losses. This study focuses on developing an early maturing seedling stage salinity tolerant rice variety by integrating conventional breeding methods with marker assisted breeding (MAB) approaches.Methods: Seedling-stage salinity tolerance Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) “Saltol” from the salt-tolerant parent FL478 was introduced into the high-yielding but salt-sensitive rice variety ADT 45. This was achieved through a combination of conventional breeding and MAB. The breeding process involved rigorous selection, screening, and physiological parameter assessments.Results: KKL(R) 3 (KR 15066) identified as the top performing Recombinant Inbred Line (RIL), consistently demonstrating maximum mean grain yields under both salinity (3435.6 kg/ha) and normal (6421.8 kg/ha) conditions. In comparison to the early maturing, salt-tolerant national check variety CSR 10, KKL(R) 3 exhibited a substantial yield increase over 50%.Discussion: The notable improvement observed in KKL(R) 3 positions it as a promising variety for release, offering a reliable solution to maximize yields, ensure food security, and promote agricultural sustainability in both saline and non-saline environments. The study highlights the effectiveness of MAB in developing salt-tolerant rice varieties and emphasizes the significance of the Saltol QTL in enhancing seedling stage salinity tolerance. The potential release of KKL(R) 3 has the capacity to revolutionize rice production in salt affected regions, providing farmers with a reliable solution to maximize yields and contribute to food security while ensuring agricultural sustainability

    Muncie downtown revitalization through cultural tourism

    The objective of the study is to propose a strategy to revitalize Muncie's downtown through cultural tourism. This is seen as a critical catalyst to help preserve the historical fabric of the downtown.Muncie's downtown, with its historical and cultural assets, has an opportunity to attract the tourism, convention, and conference business which in turn can support hotels, restaurants, specialty shops, and entertainment establishments.In view of above, this creative project attempts to revitalize downtown through linking and promoting cultural tourism facilities like museums, theaters and festivals, convention and conference centers, and specialty shops.A transport loop connecting the tourist anchors like Ball State University, Minnitrista Cultural Center, and downtown of has been proposed. The tourist routes in Muncie and to East Central Indiana have been identified to enable the visitors to visit tourist destinations easily. Signage, and banners have been proposed along major routes to give proper orientation to visitors and also to enhance the image of Muncie.A strategy has been outlined for the preservation historical buildings through adaptive reuse.     Understanding the Topological Structure and Semantic Content of Darknet Communities

    For over a decade Darknet has been gaining tremendous popularity proportional to the growing concerns fostered by lack of anonymity and privacy on the World Wide Web. In the recent years, illegitimate use of the Darknet has resulted into investigation in the research community that is analogous to a domino effect further adding to popularity of this type of network. Unfortunately, higher percentages have been attributed to the illegitimate use of the Darknet rather than to the legitimate use. This is because researchers of the Darknet communities have relied on the knowledge obtained through the use of Breadth First Search crawling algorithm. Crawling makes up the main step in the exploration of these communities. Crawling is also an effective method to understand the topological and semantic structure of the Darknet communities. The algorithms chosen to crawl thus, decide the knowledge obtained from these communities. This thesis demonstrates how these crawling algorithms spread out over the Darknet communities and how this affects what and how much we know about them. The considerations presented eliminate the skew in the representation of Darknet communities.
