    Diverse Video Generation

    Generating future frames given a few context (or past) frames is a challengingtask. It requires modeling the temporal coherence of videos and multi-modality in terms of diversity in the potential future states. Current variational approaches for video generation tend to marginalize over multi-modal future outcomes. Instead, in this thesis, we propose to explicitly model the multi-modality in the future outcomes and leverage it to sample diverse futures. Our approach, Diverse Video Generator, uses a Gaussian Process (GP) to learn priors on future states given the past and maintains a probability distribution over possible futures given a particular sample. In addition, we leverage the changes in this distribution overtime to control the sampling of diverse future states by estimating the end of on-going sequences. That is, we use the variance of GP over the output function space to trigger a change in an action sequence. We achieve state-of-the-art results on diverse future frame generation in terms of reconstruction quality and diversity of the generated sequence

    Depth Customization of DSpace: Best Practices and Techniques of Institutional Repository at IIT Kanpur, India

    4th International Conference on Open RepositoriesThis presentation was part of the session : DSpace User Group PresentationsDate: 2009-05-21 08:30 AM – 10:00 AMRealizing the importance and magnitude of Institutional Repository and global visibility and further research scope, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India has intensively planned and designed a full fledged IR project started in mid 2005. Considering the various characteristics and strategies we have designed a well defined and distinct roadmap for establishing our IR in two phases. In the first phase we have planned the mass digitization of entire theses collection of Masters and Doctoral Dissertations produced from 1963 spanning one million pages with their complex content. The content management and uploading to the content server with extracted metadata encoded in XML from our existing server by an in-house developed script is being organised effectively ensuring adequate quality checking of these pages. Initially manual submission for theses was in place. Now a provision has been made available to researchers to submit their theses online even without submitting any hardcopy in the library. The second phase is conceived of digitizing scholarly publications other than theses from our academic community. Its coverage is extremely appreciable in number and strategy we are using for our IR. Excellent feature of our system is the depth customization of DSpace at several places incorporating enhanced features. We discovered that default features offered by even the latest version of DSpace are not sufficient and adequate for academic community to establish their IR system in its full functionality so as to deliver the right information to the right user at the time it is needed. After a detailed study and research we have incorporated significant features like workflow, additional browse and search options, cross-collection search, linking to keywords/subject/homepage/citation, total count of items in respect of supervisor/subject/citation. Additionally, login user authentication from central database, IP based access restrictions, embargo and encryption on the bit stream are also provided. Redesigned feedback form has also been provided to improve its scope and functionalities of our system. These are unique features of our IR system and these enhanced features may be useful to any system in identical academic environment using DSpace to power their Institutional Repositories.Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, Indi

    Extreme Value Analysis for Record Loss Prediction during Volatile Market

    Year after year stock markets of the world kept on breaking records. They reached new heights and plunged to new depths. During financial crisis of 2008 many markets shed as many points as they never did in their history. It is extremely difficult to predict future index value due to their high randomness but is it possible to know if markets are going to achieve a record fall in near future or not. Daily changes in stock market index are not normally distributed, analysis showed they exhibit fatter tails that normal distribution, while extreme fall and rise generally follow generalized extreme value distribution explained by Extreme Value theory. The study models worst losses suffered in a day by National Stock Exchange index CNX-Nifty by fitting GEV distribution on yearly and quarterly maximum losses. GEV distribution function hence obtained is used for predicting probability of obtaining a record maximum loss next year / quarter of 2008. As Indian markets shed maximum point in a day during financial crisis of 2008, study verifies if model gives indication about such extreme event.     Pharmacoepidemiological study of potential drug interactions in heart and neurological outpatients

    Background: Drug-drug interaction (DDI) is a potential cause of adverse drug reactions. This study estimates the rate and factors associated with potential DDI in cardiac and neurological prescriptions from the out-patient department of various hospitals.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from February to April, 2014 in various outpatients department of different hospitals in Indore. Total 60 prescriptions of cardiac and 60 prescriptions of neuro patients were collected from different hospitals. All the prescriptions were analyzes by various pharmaceutical and medical books, drug interaction checker software, and journals, etc.Results: Prescriptions having moderate drug interactions are more than that of severe and minor interactions and severity of the interaction found moderate in both type of prescriptions. Among cardiac patients 75% are male and 25% are females including all age groups, and in neuro patients, 58.33% are male, and 41.66% are females including all age groups. Types of drug interaction found in prescriptions are as follow, severe interaction (13% in cardiac, 8% in neuro), and moderate interaction (45% in cardiac, 37% in neuro), minor interaction (17% in cardiac, 25% in neuro), interaction not found (25% in cardiac, 30% in neuro patients).Conclusion: The hazards of prescribing many drugs, including side-effects, DDI and difficulties of compliance have long been recognized as particular problems when prescribing. Proper emphasis should be given to drug information center and training of clinical pharmacy across the country, which can play an important role in minimizing DDIs

    CAPS: A Practical Partition Index for Filtered Similarity Search

    With the surging popularity of approximate near-neighbor search (ANNS), driven by advances in neural representation learning, the ability to serve queries accompanied by a set of constraints has become an area of intense interest. While the community has recently proposed several algorithms for constrained ANNS, almost all of these methods focus on integration with graph-based indexes, the predominant class of algorithms achieving state-of-the-art performance in latency-recall tradeoffs. In this work, we take a different approach and focus on developing a constrained ANNS algorithm via space partitioning as opposed to graphs. To that end, we introduce Constrained Approximate Partitioned Search (CAPS), an index for ANNS with filters via space partitions that not only retains the benefits of a partition-based algorithm but also outperforms state-of-the-art graph-based constrained search techniques in recall-latency tradeoffs, with only 10% of the index size.Comment: 14 page

    Awareness, perception and practices regarding Breast-Feeding and IYCF Practices among mothers of Children Up to 2 Years in Two Districts of Central India: A Cross-Sectional Study

    Background: Breastfeeding is an absolute necessary intervention for childhood survival. WHO/UNICEF have given utmost emphasis on first 1000 days of life comprising of 270 days in-utero and the first two years post birth as most vital period for nutritional interventions. [1] Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) is a set of renowned and usual recommendations for appropriate feeding of new-born and children below two years of age. Aims & Objectives: To assess the awareness, perception and practices, regarding breast-feeding and IYCF practices among mothers of children up to 2 years, in two districts of Central India. Settings and Design: Cross Sectional Study. Materials and Methods: This Cross-sectional study was carried out in two districts of Central India from January 2021 to December 2021. The study subjects included 400 mothers of babies less than two years old, who had given consent.  Interpersonal interview using a pre-designed semi-structured questionnaire was carried out. Data was collected, compiled and analysed using SPSS 25.0 (Trial Version). Result: Only (58.60%) of respondents were completely knowledgeable about exclusive breastfeeding, the value of colostrum feeding, the advantages of breastfeeding (81.69%), and its early onset (64.75%), duration (71.25%), and frequency (74.50%). However, 50.25% of women lacked understanding about the ideal positioning and attachment of the infant to the breast. Conclusion: All beneficiaries should be shown demonstrations of all IYCF practices. Family members should also be counselled and encouraged to support IYCF practices
