How can the concepts of habitus and field help us to understand the engagement of educational workers in higher Education?
In ‘Making a European area of lifelong learning a reality’, the EU stressed the role of universities in relation to lifelong learning, a role that entails a need for widening access to universities, particularly for those not coming through the traditional direct route of upper secondary education. As teachers play a significant role in the quality of the lifelong learning as well as in motivating future generations to take part in lifelong learning, education and training for teachers becomes important; not only in relation to initial teacher education, but also in relation to a continuous development of knowledge and skills.
This paper represents the first stage of a larger comparative project intended to examine and compare educational workers’ (i.e. professionals involved in teaching in the class room) participation in higher education in England and Denmark, their access and interest. In particular, the paper relates participation and engagement to national and international educational policies and frames this work within an examination of the social background of the professional groups. The key research questions at this stage of the work are methodological and can be summed up by the overarching question, “How can the concepts of habitus and field help us to understand levels of engagement of educational workers in Higher Education”?
The paper reports the results of our review of current policies and our efforts to identify the structural relations within the educational professional fields in each country. To do so we are developing a theoretical model using the relational analytical approach advocated by Bourdieu. As such, our work is an early stage attempt at operationalising Bourdieu’s observations regarding the dynamics of field. This seems to us to provide an important conceptual approach to understanding the habitus of educational workers in the context of the dynamics of a fast changing policy arena and the complexities of the backgrounds of individuals working in the educational field. The model attempts to build in the reflexivity that Bourdieu demands for a ‘science’ that is not weakened by over-emphasis on either the objective structural relations or the subjective phenomenology of experience.
Thus, the paper presents a preliminary contextual analysis of the factors that enable an understanding of engagement or lack of engagement in higher level learning among school-based education workers in the two EU countries and is related to a larger research project that explores habitus (both individual and collective) among these groups of education workers

Pre-recruitment abundance indices for eastern king prawn, blue swimmer crab and snapper in south-eastern Queensland
Fisheries Queensland scientists conduct an annual beam trawl survey in south-eastern Queensland to collect information on pre-recruit eastern king prawns, blue swimmer crabs and snapper. After a successful pilot study was completed in 2006, the survey commenced in 2007 and has been conducted every year since, except in 2016. The survey provides an independent estimate of pre-recruit abundance for this time series.
This report assessed the analysis methods and mathematical models used to estimate abundance indices for each species, to ensure the results are useful as empirical evidence in species sustainability assessments, periodic stock assessments and for fishery management purposes.
The report identifies the most appropriate mathematical models for estimating abundance indices, where and how the indices are currently used and opportunities to value add to the existing survey into the future
Matching small functions using centroid jitter and two beam position monitors
Matching to small beta functions is required to preserve emittance in plasma
accelerators. The plasma wake provides strong focusing fields, which typically
require beta functions on the mm-scale, comparable to those found in the final
focusing of a linear collider. Such beams can be time consuming to
experimentally produce and diagnose. We present a simple, fast, and noninvasive
method to measure Twiss parameters in a linac using two beam position monitors
only, relying on the similarity of the beam phase space and the jitter phase
space. By benchmarking against conventional quadrupole scans, the viability of
this technique was experimentally demonstrated at the FLASHForward
plasma-accelerator facility.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure
Constraints from and the isotope effect for MgB
With the constraint that K, as observed for MgB, we use the
Eliashberg equations to compute possible allowed values of the isotope
coefficient, . We find that while the observed value can
be obtained in principle, it is difficult to reconcile a recently calculated
spectral function with such a low observed value
Hyperbolic calorons, monopoles, and instantons
We construct families of SO(3)-symmetric charge 1 instantons and calorons on
the space H^3 x R. We show how the calorons include instantons and hyperbolic
monopoles as limiting cases. We show how Euclidean calorons are the flat space
limit of this family.Comment: 11 pages, no figures 1 reference added Published version available

Tanggungjawab Penyedia Dan Pengguna Jasa Konstruksi Menurut Syarat-syarat Umum Kontrak Peraturan Menteri Pekerjaan Umum No. 07/prt/m/2011 & Menurut General Condition Fidic Red Book
Effects of providing individualized clinical coaching with bug-in-ear technology to novice educators of students with emotional and behavioral disorders in inclusive secondary science classrooms
Students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) have been reported to benefit greatly from participating in general education science classrooms, yet also present behaviors making them least likely to be included. In this study, three novice middle school science teachers received individualized clinical coaching (ICC) with bug-in-ear (BIE) technology to increase their use of three-term contingency (TTC) trials among students who had EBD in inclusive science classrooms. Researchers used a multiple probe across participants single case design (Gast, 2010) to examine the percentage of the teachers’ completed TTC trials for managing student behaviors, the rate of correct student responses among students with EBD, and maintenance of implementing TTC trials after prompt fading. Visual data analysis was conducted, and Tau-U analysis of non-overlap and trend data confirmed that ICC with BIE was effective in increasing teachers’ use of TTC trials when working with middle school students with EBD in inclusive science classroom. Implications for practice are discussed
