    The Journey of Selected Latina Transnational Educational Leaders: Transforming Their Lives Through Educational Achievements and Successful Careers

    The purpose of this study was to examine the journeys of selected Latina transnationals and how they transformed their lives through educational achievements and successful careers in the borderlands of Texas. The researcher utilized a phenomenological collective case study approach that investigated how the selected Latina transnationals overcame challenges via a series of semi-structured interviews (Creswell, 2013). Latinas are forced through their journeys to negotiate multiple systems that could possibly impact their educational trajectories (Lechuga-Pena & Lechuga, 2018). Despite Latinas being seen as the other, the object, the minority, many are able to tell their own stories and liberate themselves from the shared experiences of oppression and inequality in the United States (Silva-Martinez, 2017). Through the data analysis, the five themes that emerged bestowed the researcher with a perspective lens and generalizations for the interviews conducted were languages barriers, influencers, mentorship, bicultural, and family pride (Creswell, 2013). The study explored the needs for educational leaders to acknowledge the student\u27s cultural and familial capital which add value to use it for the transformation of their schooling experiences

    Implementing a Cognitive Impairment Care Planning Toolkit to Enhance Dementia Care: A Quality Improvement Project

    Background: Alzheimer’s is the most expensive disease in the United States with costs reaching $277 billion a year and affecting 5.7 million Americans. By 2050, 14 million Americans will have Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD). This burdensome disease not only affects the individual, but also those who are responsible for their care, making it extremely complex to manage. Purpose: To systematically integrate the Alzheimer’s Association’s Cognitive Impairment Care Planning Toolkit in an outpatient mental health clinic to enhance care by effectively addressing the needs of patients with ADRD and of their caregivers. Objectives: Increase the number of patients with ADRD and/or their caregivers screened using the validated, standardized assessment tools found within the toolkit; increase the number of patients and/or caregivers who were identified as having unmet need(s) that received appropriate follow-up referrals; increase the number of written care plans formulated from the comprehensive assessment; and increase revenue by utilizing billing CPT code 99483. Results: Conducting a person-centered comprehensive assessment and care plan was beneficial in enhancing care by addressing the complex needs of this population. It helped identify needs such as neuropsychiatric symptoms, patient and caregiver depression, functional and environmental safety concerns, and caregiver stress. It also improved documentation for care planning, and increased revenue collection. Implications for practice: This toolkit allowed for holistic management of patient outcomes. Clinicians were able to customize treatment plans to tailor individual patient needs from to the multi-component assessments

    Genes of different catabolic pathways are coordinately regulated by Dal81 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

    Yeast can use a wide variety of nitrogen compounds. However, the ability to synthesize enzymes and permeases for catabolism of poor nitrogen sources is limited in the presence of a rich one. This general mechanism of transcriptional control is called nitrogen catabolite repression. Poor nitrogen sources, such as leucine, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), and allantoin, enable growth after the synthesis of pathway-specific catabolic enzymes and permeases. This synthesis occurs only under conditions of nitrogen limitation and in the presence of a pathway-specific signal. In this work we studied the temporal order in the induction of AGP1, BAP2, UGA4, and DAL7, genes that are involved in the catabolism and use of leucine, GABA, and allantoin, three poor nitrogen sources. We found that when these amino acids are available, cells will express AGP1 and BAP2 in the first place, then DAL7, and at last UGA4. Dal81, a general positive regulator of genes involved in nitrogen utilization related to the metabolisms of GABA, leucine, and allantoin, plays a central role in this coordinated regulation.Fil: Palavecino Ruiz, Marcos Daniel.     Development and cross-national validation of the Emotional Effort Scale (EEF)

    Background: Researchers define Emotional Labour (EL) as the effort associated with meeting the emotional requirements of the job, yet nobody has ever directly tested this effort. Building on classic stress and ego depletion theory, this study develops the Emotional Effort Scale (EEF). Methods: In Study 1, exploratory (N = 197) and confirmatory factor analysis (N = 182) were conducted with a British sample. In Study 2, the instrument was adapted to Spanish and measurement invariance was tested (N = 304). In Study 3, (N = 185), we tested convergent and divergent validity with the EL strategies (i.e., surface acting and deep acting) and the relationship between EEF and emotional exhaustion. Results: The final scale is a two-dimensional measure (explicit and implicit emotional effort) with good reliability levels in all samples (N = 818). Additionally, it shows adequate convergent, divergent and nomological validity. Conclusions: The Emotional Effort construct adds unique value to the literature. Thus, explicit effort seems to be the mechanism that explains the association between EL and exhaustion. Additionally, this study adapts and translates the measure to two of the most used languages in the world, enabling the emergence of cross-national studies in the field of emotions at work

    CFT in Conformally Flat Spacetimes

    A new class of conformal field theories is presented, where the background gravitational field is conformally flat. Conformally flat (CF) spacetimes enjoy conformal properties quite similar to the ones of flat spacetime. The conformal isometry group is of maximal rank and the conformal Killing vectors in conformally flat coordinates are {\em exactly} the same as the ones of flat spacetime. In this work, a new concept of distance is introduced, the {\em conformal distance}, which transforms covariantly under all conformal isometries of the CF space. It is shown that precisely for CF spacetimes, an adequate power of the said conformal distance is a solution of the non-minimal d'Alembert equation.Comment: Minor changes and some clarifications added.
