Tipificación y caracterización de granjas cinegéticas de faisán (Phasianus colchicus) en España
This research typified and characterised the pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) game farms in Spain using structural
and marketing variables. A structured survey was given to 25 private-owned farms in May 2010. A categorical principal
components analysis performed to typify the farms yielded two dimensions. First dimension explained 50.5% of
the variance and included the variables “number of females in the breeding flock”, and “the farm is of complete-cycle
or not”. Second dimension explained 32.3% of the variance and included the variables “age of the farm” and “the farm
advertises its activity in the game press”. A cluster analysis differentiated four farm typologies. Farm type 1 included
28% of the farms, being recent (established between 1990 and 2003), complete-cycle and medium-sized (breeding
flock of 15 to 300 females), with low advertising activity in the game press and without a hunting preserve. Farm type
2 included 28% of the farms, being the most recent (established between 1994 and 2008), without breeding flock, with
low advertising activity, and most have hunting preserve. Farm type 3 included 20% of the farms, being old (established
between 1983 and 1992), without breeding flock and with high advertising activity; 40% of them have hunting preserve.
Farm type 4 included 24% of the farms, being old (established between 1980 and 1995), complete-cycle and high-sized
(breeding flock of 50 to 1,000 females), with high advertising activity; most have hunting preserve. In conclusion, this
is an alternative poultry sub-sector consolidated in Spain, despite being only three decades old.

To comply or not to comply? How a UEFA wage-to-revenue requirement might affect the sport and managerial performance of soccer clubs
This paper evaluates the soccer clubs' compliance with a potential wage-to-revenue requirement by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and studies the effect on sport achievements resulting from sports and managerial skills. The empirical analysis uses data on first division teams of the Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, and Ligue 1, from seasons 2009/2010 to 2018/2019. We measure the teams' quality through the annual wages and use the wage-to-revenue ratio as a proxy measure for financial responsibility. Our results reveal that a more prudent financial performance, which is generally linked to good management practices, implies better sport performance and higher chances of qualifying for UEFA competitions
Number conserving particle-hole RPA for superfluid nuclei

"This is an open access article under the CCBY license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).Funded by SCOAP"We present a number conserving particle-hole RPA theory for collective excitations in the transition from normal to superfluid nuclei. The method derives from an RPA theory developed long ago in quantum chemistry using antisymmetric geminal powers, or equivalently number projected HFB states, as reference states. We show within a minimal model of pairing plus monopole interactions that the number conserving particle-hole RPA excitations evolve smoothly across the superfluid phase transition close to the exact results, contrary to particle-hole RPA in the normal phase and quasiparticle RPA in the superfluid phase that require a change of basis at the broken symmetry point. The new formalism can be applied in a straightforward manner to study particle-hole excitations on top of a number projected HFB state.Consejería de Economía, Conocimiento, Empresas y Universidad de la Junta de Andalucía (Spain) FQM-160 and FQM-370Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (ERDF), ref. Nonuniversal intensity correlations in 2D Anderson localizing random medium
Complex dielectric media often appear opaque because light traveling through
them is scattered multiple times. Although the light scattering is a random
process, different paths through the medium can be correlated encoding
information about the medium. Here, we present spectroscopic measurements of
nonuniversal intensity correlations that emerge when embedding quantum emitters
inside a disordered photonic crystal that is found to Anderson-localize light.
The emitters probe in-situ the microscopic details of the medium, and imprint
such near-field properties onto the far-field correlations. Our findings
provide new ways of enhancing light-matter interaction for quantum
electrodynamics and energy harvesting, and may find applications in
subwavelength diffuse-wave spectroscopy for biophotonics
International migration and universal healthcare access: evidence from Mexico's 'Seguro Popular'
Although 'Seguro Popular' (SP), a healthcare programme for the uninsured, has been in place in Mexico for more than a decade, its consequences for international migration both to and from the country have received little scholarly attention. Using the spatial variation in the programme's coverage generated through the rollout over time, this paper examines the effects of SP on the number of emigrants and return migrants per household. Based on data from Mexico's National Survey on Demographic Dynamics for 1997–2014, the analysis confirms that being affiliated to SP does not reduce the number of emigrants per household, but such affiliation is, however, positively related to the number of returnees per household. These results are valid across different subsamples of the population and time periods and are robust to omitted variable bias. Our findings have important implications for understanding the effects of social protection policies on international migration patterns
Universal quantum computation with the Orbital Angular Momentum of a single photon
We prove that a single photon with quantum data encoded in its orbital
angular momentum can be manipulated with simple optical elements to provide any
desired quantum computation. We will show how to build any quantum unitary
operator using beamsplitters, phase shifters, holograms and an extraction gate
based on quantum interrogation. The advantages and challenges of these approach
are then discussed, in particular the problem of the readout of the results.Comment: First version. Comments welcom
Lie symmetries and solitons in nonlinear systems with spatially inhomogeneous nonlinearities
Using Lie group theory and canonical transformations we construct explicit
solutions of nonlinear Schrodinger equations with spatially inhomogeneous
nonlinearities. We present the general theory, use it to show that localized
nonlinearities can support bound states with an arbitrary number solitons and
discuss other applications of interest to the field of nonlinear matter waves
Metabolomic evaluation of Mitomycin C and rapamycin in a personalized treatment of pancreatic cancer
In a personalized treatment designed for a patient with pancreatic cancer resistant to other treatments, the success of Mitomycin C (MMC) has been highlighted. This was revealed in a murine xenograft tumor model encompassing pancreatic adenocarcinoma cells extracted from the patient. The patient was found to exhibit a biallelic inactivation of the PALB2 gene, involved in DNA repair in addition to another mutation in the TSC2 gene that induces susceptibility of the tumor to therapeutic targets of the PI3K-mTOR pathway. The aim of the study was to apply metabolomics to elucidate the modes of action of each therapy, suggesting why MMC was so successful in this patient and why it could be a more popular choice in future pancreatic cancer treatment. The effectiveness of MMC compared to rapamycin (RM), another relevant therapeutic agent has been evaluated through liquid- and gas-chromatography mass spectrometry-based metabolomic analyses of the xenograft tumors. The relative concentrations of many metabolites in the xenograft tumors were found to be increased by MMC relative to other treatments (RM and a combination of both), including a number that are involved in central carbon metabolism (CCM). Metabolic fingerprinting revealed statistically significantly altered pathways including, but not restricted to, the pentose phosphate pathway, glycolysis, TCA cycle, purine metabolism, fatty acid biosynthesis, in addition to many significant lipid and amino acid alterations. Given the genetic background of the patient, it was expected that the combined therapy would be most effective; however, the most effective was MMC alone. It is proposed that the effectiveness of MMC is owed to its direct effect on CCM, a vital region of tumor metabolism
