Desafíos de la educación secundaria argentina en contextos de convergencia pedagógica

El presente artículo propone un abordaje analítico sobre el contexto de convergencia pedagógica que enfrenta la escuela secundaria argentina. Parte de una revisión histórica que da cuenta de sus orígenes y evidencia las características propias del nivel y su importancia social. Se cuestiona sobre el escenario de incertidumbre que desafía a partir de los cambios comunicativos y tecnológicos existentes. Identifica a la tendencia digital como característica principal del momento de transición por el que está atravesando. Plantea, como ejercicio reflexivo, comprender los desafíos pedagógicos que se generan y las vinculaciones que se establecen entre estudiantes, docentes y aprendizaje. Propone generar un espacio para repensar la escuela secundaria frente a la necesidad de adaptarse a los cambios con sentido crítico y reflexivo

The Ego in Crisis: Adolescent Pregnancy

The present work, whose objective is to analyse the ego functions in a group of pregnant adolescents, develops from the thesis of the degree in Psychology entitled “Vicissitudes of the Ego in Pregnant Adolescents: Analysis of its functioning”. The changes undergone in the adolescence are so continuous that lead to think that an ego subjugated to a permanent crisis must adopt specific characteristics as a mediating and organizing moment of the personality. The adolescent ego must face mourning experiences and the resolution of these will allow an autonomous and nature way out of this stage and, therefore, the achievement of a personal identity. Precocious motherhood may become a factor that rushes the taking on of adult roles, without having achieved an elaboration of these factors, so that it is possible to find flaws in the structuring and or working of the ego, since pregnancy also implies situations of loss in relation to the body, to external objects (family) and to internal objects (identifications). The accidental non-probabilistic sample is made up of 14 pregnant adolescents younger than 20 years old, from the city of San Luis, Argentina. The functions of the ego (adjustment to reality, sense of reality, control of impulses and defenses) will be analysed starting from the data obtained in the Rorschach psychodiagnosis

First report of cerebellar abiotrophy in an Arabian foal from Argentina

Evidence of cerebellar abiotrophy (CA) was found in a six-month-old Arabian filly with signs of incoordination, head tremor, wobbling, loss of balance and falling over, consistent with a cerebellar lesion. Normal hematology profile blood test and cerebrospinal fluid analysis excluded infectious encephalitis, and serological testing for Sarcocystis neurona was negative. The filly was euthanized. Postmortem X-ray radiography of the cervical cephalic region identified not abnormalities, discounting spinal trauma. The histopathological analysis of serial transverse cerebellar sections by electron microscopy revealed morphological characteristics of apoptotic cells with pyknotic nuclei and degenerate mitochondria, cytoplasmic condensation and areas with absence of Purkinje cells, matching with CA histopathological characteristics. The indirect DNA test for CA was positive in the filly, and DNA test confirmed the CA carrier state in the parents and the recessive inheritance of the disease. La renovación de la palabra en el bicentenario de la Argentina : los colores de la mirada lingüística

El libro reúne trabajos en los que se exponen resultados de investigaciones presentadas por investigadores de Argentina, Chile, Brasil, España, Italia y Alemania en el XII Congreso de la Sociedad Argentina de Lingüística (SAL), Bicentenario: la renovación de la palabra, realizado en Mendoza, Argentina, entre el 6 y el 9 de abril de 2010. Las temáticas abordadas en los 167 capítulos muestran las grandes líneas de investigación que se desarrollan fundamentalmente en nuestro país, pero también en los otros países mencionados arriba, y señalan además las áreas que recién se inician, con poca tradición en nuestro país y que deberían fomentarse. Prevalence, associated factors and outcomes of pressure injuries in adult intensive care unit patients: the DecubICUs study

Epidemiologic data is however unavailable. We aimed to provide an international picture of the extent of pressure injuries and factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries in adult ICU patients. Methods: International 1-day point-prevalence study; follow-up for outcome assessment until hospital discharge (maximum 12 weeks). Factors associated with ICU-acquired pressure injury and hospital mortality were assessed by generalised linear mixed-effects regression analysis. Results: Data from 13,254 patients in 1117 ICUs (90 countries) revealed 6747 pressure injuries; 3997 (59.2%) were ICU-acquired. Overall prevalence was 26.6% (95% confidence interval [CI] 25.9–27.3). ICU-acquired prevalence was 16.2% (95% CI 15.6–16.8). Sacrum (37%) and heels (19.5%) were most affected. Factors independently associated with ICU-acquired pressure injuries were older age, male sex, being underweight, emergency surgery, higher Simplified Acute Physiology Score II, Braden score 3 days, comorbidities (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, immunodeficiency), organ support (renal replacement, mechanical ventilation on ICU admission), and being in a low or lower-middle income-economy. Gradually increasing associations with mortality were identified for increasing severity of pressure injury: stage I (odds ratio [OR] 1.5; 95% CI 1.2–1.8), stage II (OR 1.6; 95% CI 1.4–1.9), and stage III or worse (OR 2.8; 95% CI 2.3–3.3). Conclusion: Pressure injuries are common in adult ICU patients. ICU-acquired pressure injuries are associated with mainly intrinsic factors and mortality. Optimal care standards, increased awareness, appropriate resource allocation, and further research into optimal prevention are pivotal to tackle this important patient safety threat
