Different Forms of Abuse in the Eating Disorders: Impact on Schema-Level Cognitions

Get PDF
Cognitive theory suggests that traumatic experiences impact on psychopathology via the development of unconditional negative cognitions (core beliefs or schema). This study examined the links between types of childhood trauma and core beliefs in an eating-disordered population. Chart reviews were conducted for 91 eating-disordered women in treatment. Each woman was asked about a history of 4 types of trauma, and completed a standardized measure of core beliefs. This study failed to find links between those women who reported childhood trauma and their core beliefs. Regression analysis predicted 4 schema (Emotional Deprivation, Mistrust/Abuse, Vulnerability to Harm and Subjugation) that were associated with one type of trauma - childhood sexual abuse. The study also found that age at first occurrence was relevant to the cognitive disturbance experienced, particularly for those who were emotionally abused

Real-Time Channel Sounding for Channel-Adaptive Data Links

The development of wideband mobile communications systems requires a good knowledge of the characteristics of the mobile channel as described by its impulse response. Such impulse response can be modeled as a tapped delay line with delays, amplitudes and phases associated with each tap. In order to obtain satisfactory estimates of these parameters and to determine delay spread, Doppler spread and the channel scattering function, a real-time channel sounder is required. This paper focuses on the hardware implementation of a real-time channel sounder, on an Innovative-DSP X6-400M Software-Defined-Radio platform based on a Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA. The real-time channel sounder has been developed in VHDL and implemented with Xilinx ISE AND Xilinx System Generator design, simulation and analysis softwares. In order to visualize the measured channel scattering function, a graphical user interface has been created. Testing of the channel sounder using a channel emulator allowed to verify the proper operation of the project

Objective: Menopause is a condition of permanent cessation of menstruation for 12 consecutive months. This occurs due to the loss of follicular ovarian activity so that estrogen levels decrease in the body. Menopause can occur at various ages, where the average age of menopause is 51-55 y. Menopause can affect oral tissues as well as other organ systems and cause xerostomia. Some of the symptoms of xerostomia include burning feelings, taste abnormalities, dysarthria, dysphagia, dysgeusia, and halitosis. Methods: This study uses a case series design to assess the correlation between estradiol levels and the incidence of xerostomia in menopausal women. The incidence of xerostomia using the Xerostomia Inventory (XI) Score. This research was conducted in several places, namely H. Adam Malik General Hospital Medan and the hospital network of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sumatra Utara. The study population was all postmenopausal women at the H. Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan and the Obgyn FK USU network hospital that met the study inclusion-exclusion criteria. This research was conducted in February with a minimum sample of 38 people. Results: In this study, 38 samples were obtained. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the most age groups were in the range of 56-60 y, the duration of menopause in the 5-10 y group, and the highest Body Mass Index (BMI) was obesity. The mean value of estradiol in menopausal women was 23.61±8.37 pg/ml; the mean value of XI score in menopausal women was 24.29±9.44. The correlation of estradiol levels and XI scores in menopausal women is a strong negative correlation that is-0.651 (p value<0.05). Correlation value of XI score and obesity in menopausal women is a low positive correlation with r = 0.342 (p value<0.05) while the value of correlation XI score with menopausal women who are not obese is a strong positive correlation with r = 0.793 (p value<0, 05). Conclusion: Changes in the oral cavity are caused by aging and hypoestrogenism. The mean age of postmenopausal women was 56.98±4.35, with a mean BMI of 28.24±4.41. Estradiol levels in menopausal women are lower than women of reproductive age in each phase of the menstrual cycle. Significant reduction in estrogen production during menopause causes a decrease in salivary flow, leading to hyposalivation and symptoms of xerostomia

Objective: This study aimed to determine the effects of Phaleria macrocarpa’s extract on TNF-α and LC3-II level and their correlation in preeclampsia-induced HUVEC. Method: This study used HUVEC culture as an in vitro model and Phaleria macrocarpa’s extract, widely used as an anti-inflammation and antioxidant.Result: Phaleria macrocarpa’s extract reduce TNF-α level siginificantly at concentration of 7.813μg/mL and at 62.5μg/mL reduce TNF-α level to normal level. There was no significant decrease and reduction to normal level in LC3-II. TNF-α has a strong positive correlation with LC3-II (r=0.958), that reduced TNF-α level will decrease LC3-II levels, where a decrease in TNF-α level of 1pg/mL will reduce LC3-II levels by 0.413pg/mL.Conclusion: Thus, Phaleria macrocarpa’s extract might be used to overcome endothelial dysfunction and autophagy in preeclampsia. Kata kunci: Phaleria Macrocarpa, Preeklampsia, HUVEC, TNF-α, LC3-I
