The Measure of a Marketer: Analyzing the Value of Certification in Direct Marketing
This thesis analyzes the use of certification and licensing in the field of Marketing, particularly in the area of Direct Marketing. For example, compared to the CPA examination for Accounting, there is no such standardized mark of achievement for marketers. Thus, there is a lack in understanding and measurement in terms of standards in Marketing and what makes a marketer a âprofessionalâ. Recently, some national marketing associations have begun creating their own standards and administering their own exams to âcertifyâ marketers as âprofessionalsâ in a given area of marketing. However, how certain standards are determined needs to be analyzed. It is unknown whether employers or other marketers throughout the country actually view these âcertificationsâ as notable, especially considering the fact that this practice has only begun very recently. Before performing certification, the method of certification needs to be analyzed
Phase coherence in quasicondensate experiments: an ab initio analysis via the stochastic Gross-Pitaevskii equation
We perform an ab initio analysis of the temperature dependence of the phase
coherence length of finite temperature, quasi-one-dimensional Bose gases
measured in the experiments of Richard et al. (Phys. Rev. Lett. 91, 010405
(2003)) and Hugbart et al. (Eur. Phys. J. D 35, 155-163 (2005)), finding very
good agreement across the entire observed temperature range

Gross-Pitaevskii equation, modified to self-consistently account for
transverse, quasi-one-dimensional effects, thus making it a valid model in the
regime . We also numerically implement an
alternative identification of , based on direct analysis of the

Quantitative study of quasi-one-dimensional Bose gas experiments via the stochastic Gross-Pitaevskii equation
The stochastic Gross-Pitaevskii equation is shown to be an excellent model
for quasi-one-dimensional Bose gas experiments, accurately reproducing the in
situ density profiles recently obtained in the experiments of Trebbia et al.
[Phys. Rev. Lett. 97, 250403 (2006)] and van Amerongen et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett.
100, 090402 (2008)], and the density fluctuation data reported by Armijo et al.
[Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 230402 (2010)]. To facilitate such agreement, we propose
and implement a quasi-one-dimensional stochastic equation for the low-energy,
axial modes, while atoms in excited transverse modes are treated as independent

Unconscious deception detection measured by finger skin temperature and indirect veracity judgments-results of a registered report
A pre-registered experiment was conducted to examine psychophysiological responses to being lied to. Bridging research on social cognition and deception detection, we hypothesized that observing a liar compared to a truth-teller would decrease finger skin temperature of observers. Participants first watched two targets while not forewarned that they would later be asked to judge (direct and indirect) veracity, and then watched another two targets while forewarned about this. During both these phases finger skin temperature was measured. Findings pertaining to temperature partly confirmed our main hypothesis. When participants were observing a liar, irrespective of being forewarned, on average finger skin temperature declined over time. In the forewarned phase, temperature trajectories of truth-tellers were higher than those of liars, however, in the not forewarned phase, this pattern was reversed. Results confirmed our further hypotheses that participants judge liars as less likeable and less trustworthy than truth-tellersâan indication of indirect deception detection. Our hypothesis that the effect size for trustworthiness would be bigger than that of liking was not supported by the data. Additionally, and also confirming our hypothesis, participants performed around chance level when directly judging whether the target person was lying. Exploratory analyses are reported with regard to truth bias and dependency between direct and indirect veracity judgments. Limitations and directions for future work related to the existence of psychophysiological indicators of deception detection are discussed
Rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss, Walbaum 1792) develop a more robust body shape under organic rearing
Prolonged exposure to captive conditions has led to the development of a rainbow trout âfarmedâ pheno- type, which is different from that of wild trout. Selec- tion for desirable productive traits in hatcheries has resulted in the development of some morphological traits that are maladaptive in nature. The recent development of organic aquaculture, guided by the well-being of the fish, could potentially produce a new farmed phenotype that would be more adaptive in nature. In this study, rainbow trout reared in intensive and organic farms were compared by means of shape analysis, to detect patterns of shape variation associated with rearing environment. The results of this study highlight a significant effect of the rearing method on rainbow trout shape: organi- cally reared trout showed a higher body profile, in particular in the head and trunk regions, shorter median fins and a deeper caudal peduncle. A combined effect of density and habitat complexity could have contributed to the observed shape differences: in organic rearing systems, lower densi- ties and steady water could increase territoriality and aggressive interactions, promoting body designs more functional in rapid attacks and escapes
Spectrum Synergy for Investigating Cloud Microphysics
Observations from spaceborne microwave (MW) and infrared (IR) passive sensors are the backbone of current satellite meteorology, essential for data assimilation into modern numerical weather prediction and for climate benchmarking. While MW and IR observations from space offer complementary features with respect to cloud properties, their synergy for cloud investigation is currently underexplored, despite the presence of both MW and IR sensors on operational meteorological satellites such as the EUMETSAT Polar System (EPS) MetOp series. As such, several key cloud microphysical properties are not part of the operational products available from EPS MetOp sensors. In addition, the EPS Second Generation (EPS-SG) series, scheduled for launch starting from 2024 onward, will carry sensors such as the Microwave Sounder (MWS) and IASI Next Generation (IASI-NG), enhancing spatial and spectral resolutions and thus capacity to retrieve cloud properties. This article presents the Combined MWS and IASI-NG Soundings for Cloud Properties (ComboCloud) project, funded by EUMETSAT with the overall objective to specify, prototype, and validate algorithms for the retrieval of cloud microphysical properties (e.g., water content and drop effective radius) from the synergy of passive MW and IR observations. The article presents the synergy rationale, the algorithm design, and the results obtained exploiting simulated observations from EPS and EPS-SG sensors, quantifying the benefits to be expected from the MW-IR synergy and the new generation sensors
A review of implant provision for hypodontia patients within a Scottish referral centre
Background: Implant treatment to replace congenitally missing teeth often involves multidisciplinary input in a secondary care environment. High quality patient care requires an in-depth knowledge of treatment requirements.
Aim: This service review aimed to determine treatment needs, efficiency of service and outcomes achieved in hypodontia patients. It also aimed to determine any specific difficulties encountered in service provision, and suggest methods to overcome these.
Methods: Hypodontia patients in the Unit of Periodontics of the Scottish referral centre under consideration, who had implant placement and fixed restoration, or review completed over a 31 month period, were included. A standardised data collection form was developed and completed with reference to the patient's clinical record. Information was collected with regard to: the indication for implant treatment and its extent; the need for, complexity and duration of orthodontic treatment; the need for bone grafting and the techniques employed and indicators of implant success.
Conclusion: Implant survival and success rates were high for those patients reviewed. Incidence of biological complications compared very favourably with the literature
Digital technology in fixed implant prosthodontics
Digital protocols are increasingly influencing prosthodontic treatment concepts. Implant-supported single-unit and short-span reconstructions will benefit mostly from the present digital trends. In these protocols, monolithic implant crowns connected to prefabricated titanium abutments, which are created based on data obtained from an intraoral scan followed by virtual design and production, without the need of a physical master cast, have to be considered in lieu of conventional manufacturing techniques for posterior implant restorations. No space for storage is needed in the complete digital workflow, and if a remake is required a replica of the original reconstruction can be produced quickly and inexpensively using rapid prototyping. The technological process is split into subtractive methods, such as milling or laser ablation, and additive processing, such as three-dimensional printing and selective laser melting. The dimensions of the supra-implant soft-tissue architecture can be calculated in advance of implant placement, according to the morphologic copy, and consequently are individualized for each patient. All these technologies have to be considered before implementing new digital dental workflows in daily routine. The correct indication and application are prerequisite and crucial for the success of the overall therapy, and, finally, for a satisfied patient. This includes a teamwork approach and equally affects the clinician, the dental assistant and the technician as well. The digitization process has the potential to change the entire dental profession. The major benefits will be reduced production costs, improvement in time efficiency and fulfilment of patientsâ perceptions of a modernized treatment concept
Multiâscale studies of 3d printed MnâNaâW/SiO2 catalyst for oxidative coupling of methane
This work presents multi-scale approaches to investigate 3D printed structured MnâNaâW/SiO_{2} atalysts used for the oxidative coupling of methane (OCM) reaction. The performance of the 3D printed catalysts has been compared to their conventional analogues, packed beds of pellets and powder. The physicochemical properties of the 3D printed catalysts were investigated using scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Performance and durability tests of the 3D printed catalysts were conducted in the laboratory and in a miniplant under real reaction conditions. In addition, synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction computed tomography technique (XRD-CT) was employed to obtain cross sectional maps at three different positions selected within the 3D printed catalyst body during the OCM reaction. The maps revealed the evolution of catalyst active phases and silica support on spatial and temporal scales within the interiors of the 3D printed catalyst under operating conditions. These results were accompanied with SEM-EDS analysis that indicated a homogeneous distribution of the active catalyst particles across the silica support
A dual process account of creative thinking
This article explicates the potential role played by type 1 thinking (automatic, fast) and type 2 thinking (effortful, logical) in creative thinking. The relevance of Evans's (2007) models of conflict of dual processes in thinking is discussed with regards to creative thinking. The role played by type 1 thinking and type 2 thinking during the different stages of creativity (problem finding and conceptualization, incubation, illumination, verification and dissemination) is discussed. It is proposed that although both types of thinking are active in creativity, the extent to which they are active and the nature of their contribution to creativity will vary between stages of the creative process. Directions for future research to test this proposal are outlined; differing methodologies and the investigation of different stages of creative thinking are discussed. © Taylor & Francis Group, LLC
