Who enrols and graduates from web-based pharmacy education - Experiences from Northern Sweden
Introduction: As a response to the shortage of prescriptionists in Northern Sweden, a web-based Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy program was introduced at Umeå University in 2003. This study explored who is likely to enrol and graduate from the web-based bachelor program and whether the program has addressed the shortage of prescriptionists in rural Northern Sweden.
Methods: Data from three different sources were included in this study; the initial cohort including students admitted to the program in 2003 (survey), the entire cohort including all people admitted to the program between 2003 and 2014 (university\u27s admissions data) and the alumni cohort including graduates who participated in an alumni survey in 2015.
Results: A typical student of the web-based pharmacy program is female, over 30 years of age, married or in a de-facto relationship and has children. Furthermore, the students graduating before 2009 were more likely to live in Northern Sweden compared to those graduating later.
Discussion and conclusion: The results indicate that the introduction of a web-based bachelor of pharmacy program at Umeå University was to some extent able to address the shortage of prescriptionists in Northern Sweden. Web-based education may potentially help address the maldistribution of health professionals by providing flexible education opportunities
Pharmacists\u27 satisfaction with their work: Analysis of an alumni survey
Background: The level of job satisfaction among practicing pharmacists is important because it has been found to affect job performance and employee turnover. The Swedish pharmacy market has undergone major changes in recent years, and little is known about pharmacists’ job satisfaction.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to investigate the level of job satisfaction and associated factors among graduates from the web-based pharmacy programs at Umeå University.
Methods: Job satisfaction of pharmacists was measured as part of an alumni survey conducted with those who graduated from the pharmacy programmes between 2006 and 2014. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, and logistic regression was used to explore factors affecting job satisfaction.
Results: The total number of graduates who completed the survey was 222 (response rate 43%.) The majority of respondents were female (95%), and most were employed at a community pharmacy (85%). The mean age was 39.7 years. The majority of graduates (91%) were satisfied with their job “most of the time” or “all of the time”, and 87% of the respondents would “definitely” or “maybe” choose the same career again. The multivariate analysis showed that increasing years in the current position (OR:0.672 (0.519–0.871)) was associated with lower job satisfaction. Older age (OR: 1.123 (1.022–1.234)), the perception that the knowledge and skills acquired during the education is useful in the current job (OR: 4.643 (1.255–17.182)) and access to continuing professional development (OR:9.472 (1.965–45.662)) were associated with higher job satisfaction.
Conclusion: Most graduates from the web-based pharmacy programmes are satisfied with their current job. Access to continuing professional development seems to be important for the level of job satisfaction among pharmacists

Characterizing the Circumgalactic Medium of Quasars at z 2.2 through H and Ly Emission
The discovery of giant quasar Ly nebulae at has opened up the
possibility to directly study in emission the Circumgalactic and Intergalactic
Medium (CGM/IGM). However, the resonant nature of the Ly line and its
different emission mechanisms hamper the ability to constrain both the
kinematics and physical properties of the CGM/IGM. Here, we present results of
a pilot project aiming at the detection of CGM H emission, a line which
does not suffer from these limitations. To this end, we first used KCWI to
detect Ly emission around three bright quasars with , a
range which is free from bright IR sky lines for H, and then selected
the most extended nebula for H follow-up with MOSFIRE. Within the
MOSFIRE slit, we detected H emission extending up to 20 physical kpc
with a total H flux of F=(9.5 0.9)
10 erg s cm. Considering the Ly flux in the same
region, we found F/F=3.7 0.3
consistent with that obtained for the Slug Nebula at z and with
recombination radiation. This implies high densities or a very broad density
distribution within the CGM of high-redshift quasars. Moreover, the H
line profile suggests the presence of multiple emitting components overlapping
along our line-of-sight and relatively quiescent kinematics, which seems
incompatible with either quasar outflows capable of escaping the potential well
of the host halo or disk-like rotation in a massive halo

Qualidade do sono e marcadores endócrinos e bioquímicos
Sleep quality and food intake of high school students
Poor sleep quality is associated with increased food intake and poor
diet quality [1]. People with lack of sleep show a positive correlation. between free time and food intake and also experience hormonal
and brain changes that drive the intake of food with high calorific
value [1-3]. In addition, scientific research has shown a healthy and
balanced diet to positively influence the quality of sleep [1].
Objective
The present study was set out to assess the sleep quality of high school
students in Bragança county, and its association with food intake.
Methods
The study used non-experimental, analytical and transversal methodology,
of epidemiological character and with a quantitative approach.
It was intended to carry out the study in a population of 862 high
school students. However, due to consent being required from both
legal guardians and students, a smaller sample of 345 students was
obtained. The data was collected in May 2017 through a questionnaire
that included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), validated
for the Portuguese population.
Results
Throughout the study and following PSQI analysis, it was concluded
that 39.71% (n = 137) of participants showed poor quality of sleep
(PSQI > 5 points). The correlation between sleep quality and food intake
was assessed and a statistically significant association was found
between the quality of sleep and the intake of snacks (X2 = 17.144; p
= 0.000), sugary products (X2 = 18.603; p= 0 .000), fast-food (X2 =
12.353; p = 0.002) and ready meals (X2 = 14.852; p = 0.000). The risk
of suffering from poor sleep quality is higher in young populations
who frequently eat snacks ([OR]: 2.811; 99%), sugary products ([OR]:
1.901; 95%), fast-food ([OR]: 4.000; 99%) and ready meals ([OR]: 5.621;
95%) in comparison with young populations who rarely eat this sort
of food. The sleep quality is also significantly related with the number
of meals young people have in a day (X2 = 7.580; p = 0.023). The
risk of having poor quality sleep is 2.240 times higher in young
people who rarely eat 4-6 meals a day.
Conclusions
A correlation between sleep quality and food intake in the sampled
students was seen. The risk of having poor quality of sleep is higher
in students who frequently eat a high calorie diet and also in students
who rarely have 4-6 meals a day. There are several connections
between sleep quality and eating habits. Sleep promotion and its
connection with standard diets should be included as an essential
part of community empowerment for health-promoting lifestyles

Ubiquitous giant Ly nebulae around the brightest quasars at revealed with MUSE
Direct Ly imaging of intergalactic gas at has recently
revealed giant cosmological structures around quasars, e.g. the Slug Nebula
(Cantalupo et al. 2014). Despite their high luminosity, the detection rate of
such systems in narrow-band and spectroscopic surveys is less than 10%,
possibly encoding crucial information on the distribution of gas around quasars
and the quasar emission properties. In this study, we use the MUSE
integral-field instrument to perform a blind survey for giant Ly
nebulae around 17 bright radio-quiet quasars at that does not suffer
from most of the limitations of previous surveys. After data reduction and
analysis performed with specifically developed tools, we found that each quasar
is surrounded by giant Ly nebulae with projected sizes larger than 100
physical kpc and, in some cases, extending up to 320 kpc. The circularly
averaged surface brightness profiles of the nebulae appear very similar to each
other despite their different morphologies and are consistent with power laws
with slopes . The similarity between the properties of all these
nebulae and the Slug Nebula suggests a similar origin for all systems and that
a large fraction of gas around bright quasars could be in a relatively "cold"
(T10K) and dense phase. In addition, our results imply that such gas
is ubiquitous within at least 50 kpc from bright quasars at
independently of the quasar emission opening angle, or extending up to 200 kpc
for quasar isotropic emission.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures, 3 Tables, accepted to Ap
