Feedback as a Connector in Remote Learning Environments

    Get PDF
In March, Michigan educators unexpectedly found themselves rethinking instruction. As schools throughout the state were shuttered due to the COVID-19 health crisis, educators at every level needed to consider ways to sustain relationships with students in an effort to move learning forward. Feedback has always served as a natural connector between teachers and their students, but students’ use of feedback is based upon trust. This article examines the importance of formative assessment and the feedback cycle while exploring ways to deliver feedback in remote settings. By prioritizing the student-teacher relationship, teachers foster students’ active engagement with feedback, thereby raising students’ confidence, persistence, and performance

    No full text

Neoteny is common in some populations of Palmate newts Triturus helveticus of Southern France. Population samples have been collected from 117 pools, at three different seasons of the year. Percentages of neotenic individuals have been calculated for 29 of these pools where neotenic newts were found. Neoteny is not evenly distributed over the whole study area. It is more prevalent in the S.E. part of the Causse du Larzac and in the Causse de Blandas, than in the coastal plains of Languedoc. On the “ causses ” (arid limestone tablelands), neoteny only occurs among palmate newts, no neotenic individual having ever been found among the sympatric Triturus marmoratus population. Morphological differences between neotenic and normal popu lations of Triturus helveticus are described. None of them is consistent enough to allow sub-specific status to be given to the neotenic population. Breeding takes place later in the season among the Larzac population and the duration of the aquatic phase of the yearly cycle is also longer in the plateau population than among the newts of the coastal plains. All these differences, morphological as well as biological, disappear when the newts are kept in labo ratory conditions. Metamorphosis occurs normally when the progeny of both newt populations are bred in the laboratory. However mortality is much higher among the progeny of neotenic females, during their first three months of life

The physical, chemical, and biotic characteristics of the ponds where neotenic populations of Palmate newts are found in Sou thern France are described. The frequency of neoteny is high in permanent ponds, at an altitude ranging from 400 to 700 m, on arid limestone plateaux with a yearly rainfall of 1500-2000 mm. In such areas there are large seasonal variations of water temperature, ranging from + 1 to + 28 °C, water remaining cold (below + 15°C) for 8 to 10 months during the year. The saline content of water is low, as shown by conductivity figures (less than 200 pmhos/cm/cm2) . No iodine deficiency was ever found in the ponds of the study area. A correlation has been found between the frequency of neoteny and the water concentration in Ca, Mg and particularly K (which may account for 35-40 % of the cations) . The aridity of the area surrounding the pools can also contri bute to the selection of neotenic individuals, paedogenesis being of obvious adaptive value in such an environment

Humanizing Feedback: Responsive Feedback Practices that Value Student Identity and Build Feedback Literacy

    Get PDF
Providing effective feedback is an iterative process. It requires teachers to intentionally build caring classroom relationships that center students and their individual needs. Similarly, students need to have a safe and supportive environment so that they can use feedback to improve their work. This article aims to provide practitioners with strategies for humanizing the feedback process and improving students’ feedback literacy in ways that honor their identities and funds of knowledge

    Get PDF

This report concerns the observance of the psychosocial treatment at federal prisoners presenting a double diagnosis of schizophrenia and antisocial personality disorder. After a literature’s review, the training course’s place is presented, as well as the methodology, three case studies and, finally, an analysis of these. The observance of the treatment and the problems of mental health here treaties are explained in a descriptive, rather precise and critical way. Further to the analysis of three case studies in a community correctional center (CSC), it seems that the delinquent, schizophrenic and antisocial clientele do not receive completely adapted services to its deficits at the level of the social skills. Also, the staff of the CSC presents certain gaps in front of the intervention recommended with these individuals. In this sense, it is noted that the employees are generally insufficiently available, trained and inclined to really envisage the social rehabilitation of the prisoner such as perceived in this training course. Often, follow-ups being intermittent, the therapeutic alliance has difficulty in settling down. Now only while establishing a reliable relation a profitable clinical work can remain. As a matter of fact, before being released, it would be desirable that these people receive from the support as for the acquisition of the know-how and the social skills necessary for any socialization
