Design of a 250 ton mill, for cyanidation of a cobalt silver ore

    Get PDF
My aim in the designing of this 250-Ton Mill for cyanidation of a Cobalt Silver Ore, has been to select the simplest process of extraction in connection with the Labratory [sic] Experiments which showed the highest per cent of extraction. Care has been taken in the selection of the machinery, and the location of it in the Mill is such, that if a greater capacity is required, that could be done without interfering with the machines in the Mill in question --Introduction, page 1

Graph analysis of student model networks

    Get PDF
This paper explores the feasibility of a graph-based approach to model student knowledge in the domain of programming. The key idea of this approach is that programming concepts are truly learned not in isolation, but rather in combination with other concepts. Following this idea, we represent a student model as a graph where links are gradually added when the student's ability to work with connected pairs of concepts in the same context is confirmed. We also hypothesize that with this graph-based approach a number of traditional graph metrics could be used to better measure student knowledge than using more traditional scalar models of student knowledge. To collect some early evidence in favor of this idea, we used data from several classroom studies to correlate graph metrics with various performance and motivation metrics

Exploring the effects of Open Social Student Model beyond social comparison

    Get PDF
In our journey exploring the effects of Open Student Model (OSM) on students working with programming problems and examples, we have incorporated the idea of social visualizations to extend OSM to Open Social Student Modeling (OSSM). Although comparison features in OSSM, where a student can compare herself to the group or individual peers, have shown to increase students' work, we now shift our attention to other effects. The goal is to explore the OSSM effects beyond comparison, particularly metacognitive support, and we propose a representation of the OSSM towards these lines

Equilibrium Times for the Multicanonical Method

This work measures the time to equilibrium for the multicanonical method on the 2D-Ising system by using a new criterion, proposed here, to find the time to equilibrium, teq, of any sampling procedure based on a Markov process. Our new procedure gives the same results that the usual one, based on the magnetization, for the canonical Metropolis sampling on a 2D-Ising model at several temperatures. For the multicanonical method we found a power-law relationship with the system size, L, of teq=0.27(15) L^2.80(13), and with the number of energy levels to explore, kE, of teq=0.7(13) kE^1.40(11), in perfect agreement with the result just above. In addition, some kind of critical slowing down was observed around the critical energy. Our new procedure is completely general, and can be applied to any sampling method based on a Markov process.Comment: 7 pages, 5 eps figures, to be published in Int. J. Mod. Phys.

Cumulative clinical experience with use of insulin lispro: critical appraisal, role in therapy, and patient considerations

    Get PDF
We have now at our disposal the new rapid-acting insulin analogs, of which insulin lispro was the first to become commercially available. While the differences in pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics are indisputable, the clinical benefits attained by these changes have not been as clear. In the present review, we discuss the structure, pharmacology, and landmark studies related to insulin lispro. The clinical characteristics of insulin lispro are compared with those of insulin regular and other insulin analogs in different clinical situations. Also included are the aspects of quality of life and cost-effectiveness that may modify the modern practitioner’s decision to adopt one type of insulin over another

Design and details of construction for a 50-ton amalgamation, concentration, and cyaniding mill

    Get PDF
Our problem is to design and provide for the construction of a mill to cyanide a certain gold ore. Full laboratory experiments have been made on the ore and on the results of these tests together with the consideration of the conditions of locality, transportation facilities, and labor available we have based the design of our mill. Our aim has been to so design the mill that the capacity may be increased without necessitating any change of arrangement in the part already constructed. To increase the capacity up to 100 tons practically the only additional equipment required will be in the crushing and concentrating departments. Especial pains have been taken in selecting the machinery for the plant in order that the mill may be built in a locality where mule back transportation is necessary. All the machines have been sectionalized with this point in view, and the lightest type used where expedient --Introduction, page 1

    How glassy are neural networks?

In this paper we continue our investigation on the high storage regime of a neural network with Gaussian patterns. Through an exact mapping between its partition function and one of a bipartite spin glass (whose parties consist of Ising and Gaussian spins respectively), we give a complete control of the whole annealed region. The strategy explored is based on an interpolation between the bipartite system and two independent spin glasses built respectively by dichotomic and Gaussian spins: Critical line, behavior of the principal thermodynamic observables and their fluctuations as well as overlap fluctuations are obtained and discussed. Then, we move further, extending such an equivalence beyond the critical line, to explore the broken ergodicity phase under the assumption of replica symmetry and we show that the quenched free energy of this (analogical) Hopfield model can be described as a linear combination of the two quenched spin-glass free energies even in the replica symmetric framework
