A numerical-experimental method for damage location based on rotation fields spatial differentiation
This paper presents a structural damage location method that decreases the number of spatial differentiations needed to compute modal curvature fields. The method is numerically and experimentally applied to isotropic and laminated rectangular plates, respectively. A speckle shear interferometer is used to measure the rotation fields of the laminated plate, while the isotropic plate is analysed by finite elements. It was found that the Gaussian differentiation is the most suited technique to compute the curvature fields. It is also demonstrated the superior performance of the curvature method using measured rotation fields instead of measured displacement fields
Nitric oxide releasing-dendrimers: an overview
Platforms able to storage, release or scavenge NO in a controlled and specific manner is interesting for biological applications. Among the possible matrices for these purposes, dendrimers are excellent candidates for that. These molecules have been used as drug delivery systems and exhibit interesting properties, like the possibility to perform chemical modifications on dendrimers surface, the capacity of storage high concentrations of compounds of interest in the same molecule and the ability to improve the solubility and the biocompatibility of the compounds bonded to it. This review emphasizes the recent progress in the development and in the biological applications of different NO-releasing dendrimers and the nitric oxide release pathways in these compounds
Future Exoplanet Research: Science Questions and How to Address Them
Started approximately in the late 1980s, exoplanetology has up to now
unveiled the main gross bulk characteristics of planets and planetary systems.
In the future it will benefit from more and more large telescopes and advanced
space missions. These instruments will dramatically improve their performance
in terms of photometric precision, detection speed, multipixel imaging,
high-resolution spectroscopy, allowing to go much deeper in the knowledge of
planets. Here we outline some science questions which should go beyond these
standard improvements and how to address them. Our prejudice is that one is
never too speculative: experience shows that the speculative predictions
initially not accepted by the community have been confirmed several years later
(like spectrophotometry of transits or circumbinary planets).Comment: Invited review, accepte
