Distinctive Mechanisms and Patterns of Exudative Versus Tractional Intraretinal Cystoid Spaces as Seen With Multimodal Imaging.
PurposeTo determine clear-cut distinctions between tractional and exudative intraretinal cystoid spaces subtypes.DesignRetrospective, multicenter, observational case series.MethodsA cohort of patients diagnosed with intraretinal cystoid spaces and imaged with optical coherence tomography (OCT), fluorescein angiography (FA), blue fundus autofluorescence (BFAF), en face OCT, and OCT angiography (OCT-A) was included in the study. All images were qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated.ResultsIn this study were included 72 eyes of 69 patients. Exudative intraretinal cystoid spaces (36/72 eyes, 50%) displayed a "petaloid" morphology as seen with en face OCT, FA, and BFAF. Tractional intraretinal cystoid spaces (24/72 eyes, 33.3%), displayed a radial "spoke-wheel" en face OCT pattern. There was no leakage with FA and BFAF did not reveal specific patterns. Eyes with full-thickness macular hole (FTMH, 12/72 eyes, 16.7%) displayed a "sunflower" en face OCT appearance. FTMH showed OCT, OCT-A, and BFAF features of both exudative and tractional cystoid spaces, but without any FA leakage. Inner nuclear layer (INL) thickness was significantly lower in tractional cystoid spaces (P < .001). There were a greater number of INL cystoid spaces in both the exudative and FTMH subgroups (PÂ = .001). The surface area of INL cystoid spaces was significantly lower in the tractional subgroup (P < .001). There was a significant reduction of the microvascular density in eyes with exudative vs tractional (PÂ = .002) and FTMH (P < .001) subgroups.ConclusionsExudative and tractional intraretinal cystoid spaces displayed characteristic multimodal imaging features and they may represent 2 different pathologic conditions with equally different clinical implications
JRA3 Electromagnetic Calorimeter Technical Design Report
This report describes the design of the prototype for an Silicon Tungsten electromagnetic calorimeter with unprecedented high granularity to be operated in a detector at the International Linear Collider (ILC). The R&D for the prototype is co-funded by the European Union in the FP6 framework within the so called EUDET project in the years 2006-2010. The dimensions of the prototype are similar to those envisaged for the final detector. Already at this stage the prototype features a highly compact design. The sensitive layers, the Very Front End Electronics serving 64 channels per ASIC and copper plates for heat draining are integrated within 2000 ÎŒm
'Lad culture' in higher education: agency in the sexualisation debates
This paper reports on research funded by the National Union of Students, which explored women studentsâ experiences of âlad cultureâ through focus groups and interviews. We found that although laddism is only one of various potential masculinities, for our participants it dominated social and sexual spheres of university life in problematic ways. However, their objections to laddish behaviours did not support contemporary models of âsexual panicâ, even while oppugning the more simplistic celebrations of young womenâs empowerment which have been observed in debates about sexualisation. We argue that in their ability to reject âlad cultureâ, our respondents expressed a form of agency which is often invisibilised in sexualisation discussions and which could be harnessed to tackle some of the issues we uncovered

The VELA-X-Pulsar Wind Nebula Revisited with Four Years of Fermi Large Area Telescope Observations
The Vela supernova remnant (SNR) is the closest SNR to Earth containing an active pulsar, the Vela pulsar (PSR B0833-45). This pulsar is an archetype of the middle-aged pulsar class and powers a bright pulsar wind nebula (PWN), Vela-X, spanning a region of 2deg 3deg south of the pulsar and observed in the radio, X-ray, and very high energy -ray domains. The detection of the Vela-X PWN by the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) was reported in the first year of the mission. Subsequently, we have reinvestigated this complex region and performed a detailed morphological and spectral analysis of this source using 4 yr of Fermi-LAT observations. This study lowers the threshold for morphological analysis of the nebula from 0.8 GeV to 0.3 GeV, allowing for the inspection of distinct energy bands by the LAT for the first time. We describe the recent results obtained on this PWN and discuss the origin of the newly detected spatial features
Adiabatically coupled systems and fractional monodromy
We present a 1-parameter family of systems with fractional monodromy and
adiabatic separation of motion. We relate the presence of monodromy to a
redistribution of states both in the quantum and semi-quantum spectrum. We show
how the fractional monodromy arises from the non diagonal action of the
dynamical symmetry of the system and manifests itself as a generic property of
an important subclass of adiabatically coupled systems
Visual onset expands subjective time
We report a distortion of subjective time perception in which the duration of a first interval is perceived to be longer than the succeeding interval of the same duration. The amount of time expansion depends on the onset type defining the first interval. When a stimulus appears abruptly, its duration is perceived to be longer than when it appears following a stationary array. The difference in the processing time for the stimulus onset and motion onset, measured as reaction times, agrees with the difference in time expansion. Our results suggest that initial transient responses for a visual onset serve as a temporal marker for time estimation, and a systematic change in the processing time for onsets affects perceived time

Long Term Displacement Data of Woven Fabric Webbings Under Constant Load for Inflatable Structures
Inflatable modules for space applications offer weight and launch volume savings relative to current metallic modules. Limited data exist on the creep behavior of the restraint layer of inflatable modules. Long-term displacement and strain data of two high strength woven fabric webbings, Kevlar and Vectran, under constant load is presented. The creep behavior of webbings is required by designers to help determine service life parameters of inflatable modules. Four groups of different webbings with different loads were defined for this study. Group 1 consisted of 4K Kevlar webbings loaded to 33% ultimate tensile strength and 6K Vectran webbings loaded to 27% ultimate tensile strength, group 2 consisted of 6K Kevlar webbings loaded to 40% and 43% ultimate tensile strength, and 6K Vectran webbings loaded to 50% ultimate tensile strength, group 3 consisted of 6K Kevlar webbings loaded to 52% ultimate tensile strength and 6K Vectran webbings loaded to 60% ultimate tensile strength, and group 4 consisted of 12.5K Kevlar webbings loaded to 22% ultimate tensile strength, and 12.5K Vectran webbings loaded to 22% ultimate tensile strength. The uniquely designed test facility, hardware, displacement measuring devices, and test data are presented. Test data indicate that immediately after loading all webbings stretch an inch or more, however as time increases displacement values significantly decrease to fall within a range of several hundredth of an inch over the remainder of test period. Webbings in group 1 exhibit near constant displacements and strains over a 17-month period. Data acquisition was suspended after the 17th month, however webbings continue to sustain load without any local webbing damage as of the 21st month of testing. Webbings in group 2 exhibit a combination of initial constant displacement and subsequent increases in displacement rates over a 16-month period. Webbings in group 3 exhibit steady increases in displacement rates leading to webbing failure over a 3-month period. Five of six webbings experienced local damage and subsequent failure in group 3. Data from group 4 indicates increasing webbing displacements over a 7-month period. All webbings in groups 1, 2, and 4 remain suspended without any local damage as of the writing of this paper. Variations in facility temperatures over test period seem to have had limited effect on long-term webbing displacement data
