Selection of artichoke plants and analysis of correlation between quantitative traits for fresh consumption
The goals of the present study were to evaluate and select artichoke plants suitable for fresh consumption and to establish correlations between quantitative traits. Clones from 39 accessions were obtained from the germplasm collection of the University of Passo Fundo and evaluated for 17 quantitative and 3 qualitative traits. Data on quantitative traits were subjected to analysis of variance followed by a Tukey test at p<0.05 to compare averages, and correlations were analyzed using the Pearson product moment correlation coefficient. Significant differences were observed for 9 of the 17 quantitative traits analyzed, and 10 of the 39 accessions presented higher values for some of those traits than the remaining tested accessions. Significant correlations were observed between several traits and the capitulum yield, which makes indirect selection easier. For the qualitative traits, nine accessions were selected that presented circular head, violet colored bracts and absence of thorns, which are desirable traits for fresh consumption.Los objetivos del presente estudio fueron evaluar y seleccionar plantas de alcachofa aptas para consumo en fresco y establecer correlaciones entre caracteres cuantitativos. Treinta y nueve accesiones pertenecientes a la colección de germoplasma de la Universidad de Passo Fundo fueron clonadas y luego evaluadas para 17 caracteres cuantitativos y 3 cualitativos. Los datos correspondientes a los caracteres cuantitativos fueron sometidos a análisis de varianza seguido por una prueba comparación de valores medios de Tukey (p<0,05); las correlaciones fueron analizadas utilizando el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson. Se observaron diferencias significativas para 9 de los 17 caracteres cuantitativos analizados y 10 de las 39 accesiones mostraron elevados valores para algunos de esos caracteres. Se observaron valores significativos de correlación entre varios caracteres y el rendimiento, lo que facilita la selección indirecta. Genetic relationships among local Vitis vinifera cultivars from Campania (Italy)
A total of 114 accessions putatively corresponding to 69 local grape cultivars from Campania (Southern Italy) were analysed with 8 microsatellite markers (VVS2, VVMD5, VVMD7, VVMD25, VVMD27, VVMD31, VrZAG62 and VrZAG79) in order to evaluate their genetic diversity and relationships. According to their unique genotype at SSR loci finally 56 varieties were found. Interesting cases of synonymy, i.e. Greco di Tufo and Asprinio, Palummina and Piedirosso, and homonymy were disclosed. Pairwise genetic distances were calculated between all cultivars. Clustering of cultivars did not reflect their current distribution and this suggests that grape cultivars of Campania might have been introduced from various and distinct geographic areas
The parentage of 'Sangiovese', the most important Italian wine grape
A previous microsatellite study pointed out a possible parent-offspring relationship between 'Sangiovese', the most widespread red grape cultivar in Italy, and 'Ciliegiolo', an ancient Tuscan variety. Testing 'Sangiovese' as a parent of 'Ciliegiolo', we searched for the putative other parent in our extensive, private and standardized database, but we did not find any candidate. Testing 'Ciliegiolo' as a parent of 'Sangiovese', we found four candidate cultivars. After the analysis of 50 microsatellites, only one stood the paternity test and we established with a strong statistical support that 'Sangiovese' is a progeny of 'Ciliegiolo' and 'Calabrese di Montenuovo', an obscure grapevine from Campania, Italy. This cultivar does not have a registered name and is supposed to have been introduced from Calabria. Among 180 additional local grape cultivars from Calabria, Campania or Tuscany, we did not find any matching variety. As a consequence, we propose to adopt the name 'Calabrese di Montenuovo' for this grape cultivar. In addition, we found relatives of 'Sangiovese' and 'Calabrese di Montenuovo' in Calabria, thus strongly suggesting a Calabrian origin for 'Calabrese di Montenuovo' and indicating that 'Sangiovese' has ancestors and/or progenies in Tuscany and in Southern Italy.
Genetic characterization and relationships of traditional grape cultivars from Serbia
Reference genetic profiles were generated for 12 traditional grapevine cultivars of Serbia through a genotyping approach that included the "core set" of 9 SSR markers for genetic identification and further 13 common microsatellites for strengthening genetic relationship analysis. Consistent matching with SSR markers of grapevines cultivated in neighbouring countries or maintained in European germplasm collections was found for most of the genotypes, suggesting possible synonyms and revealing that 'Muskat Krokan' corresponds to 'Muscat fleur d’Oranger' and two 'Tamjanika' cultivars are identical to 'Moscato Giallo' and 'Moscato Rosa'. When compared with germplasm representing the classical eco-geographic grouping of grapevine cultivars, Serbian non-Muscat genotypes clustered within the Convar pontica subconvar balcanica taxon thus supporting their indigenous origin.
Multitask Learning on Graph Neural Networks: Learning Multiple Graph Centrality Measures with a Unified Network
The application of deep learning to symbolic domains remains an active
research endeavour. Graph neural networks (GNN), consisting of trained neural
modules which can be arranged in different topologies at run time, are sound
alternatives to tackle relational problems which lend themselves to graph
representations. In this paper, we show that GNNs are capable of multitask
learning, which can be naturally enforced by training the model to refine a
single set of multidimensional embeddings and decode them
into multiple outputs by connecting MLPs at the end of the pipeline. We
demonstrate the multitask learning capability of the model in the relevant
relational problem of estimating network centrality measures, focusing
primarily on producing rankings based on these measures, i.e. is vertex
more central than vertex given centrality ?. We then show that a GNN
can be trained to develop a \emph{lingua franca} of vertex embeddings from
which all relevant information about any of the trained centrality measures can
be decoded. The proposed model achieves accuracy on a test dataset of
random instances with up to 128 vertices and is shown to generalise to larger
problem sizes. The model is also shown to obtain reasonable accuracy on a
dataset of real world instances with up to 4k vertices, vastly surpassing the
sizes of the largest instances with which the model was trained ().
Finally, we believe that our contributions attest to the potential of GNNs in

Conceptual design of the Gas Injection and Vacuum System for DTT NBI
The Divertor Tokamak Test (DTT) is a new experimental facility whose
construction is starting in Frascati, Rome, Italy; its main goals are improving
the understanding of plasma-wall interactions and supporting the development of
ITER and DEMO. DTT will be equipped with a Neutral Beam Injector (NBI) based on
negative deuterium ions, designed to inject 10 MW of power to the tokamak.
A fundamental system for the good operations of the DTT NBI will be its Gas
injection and Vacuum System (GVS). Indeed, the efficiency of the entire NBI
strongly depends on the good performance of its GVS.
The GVS for DTT NBI will be composed of two systems working in parallel: a
grounded section connected to the main vacuum vessel, and a high voltage part
connected to the ion source vessel and working at -510 kV voltage. The grounded
part will feature a fore vacuum system (given by screw and roots pumps) plus a
high vacuum system based on turbo-molecular pumps located on the side walls of
the vessel and Non-Evaporable Getter (NEG) pumps located inside the vessel on
the upper and lower surfaces. On the other hand, the high voltage part will
feature a fore vacuum system (given by two compact screw pumps mounted on the
external surface for the ion source vessel) plus a high vacuum system based on
turbo-molecular pumps also located on the sidewalls of the ion source vessel. A
dedicated deuterium gas injection will feed the process gas to the ion source
and the neutralizer.
This paper gives a description of the conceptual design of the GVS for DTT
NBI, and of the procedure followed to optimize this system considering the
