Statistical distributions in the folding of elastic structures
The behaviour of elastic structures undergoing large deformations is the
result of the competition between confining conditions, self-avoidance and
elasticity. This combination of multiple phenomena creates a geometrical
frustration that leads to complex fold patterns. By studying the case of a rod
confined isotropically into a disk, we show that the emergence of the
complexity is associated with a well defined underlying statistical measure
that determines the energy distribution of sub-elements,``branches'', of the
rod. This result suggests that branches act as the ``microscopic'' degrees of
freedom laying the foundations for a statistical mechanical theory of this
athermal and amorphous system
T-Duality in 2-D Integrable Models
The non-conformal analog of abelian T-duality transformations relating pairs
of axial and vector integrable models from the non abelian affine Toda family

Structural properties of crumpled cream layers
The cream layer is a complex heterogeneous material of biological origin
which forms spontaneously at the air-milk interface. Here, it is studied the
crumpling of a single cream layer packing under its own weight at room
temperature in three-dimensional space. The structure obtained in these
circumstances has low volume fraction and anomalous fractal dimensions. Direct
means and noninvasive NMR imaging technique are used to investigate the

Generalized Miura Transformations, Two-Boson KP Hierarchies and their Reduction to KDV Hierarchies
Bracket preserving gauge equivalence is established between several two-boson
generated KP type of hierarchies. These KP hierarchies reduce under symplectic
reduction (via Dirac constraints) to KdV, mKdV and Schwarzian KdV hierarchies.
Under this reduction the gauge equivalence is taking form of the conventional

Household finance
Household financial decisions are complex, interdependent, and heterogeneous, and central to the functioning of the financial system. We present an overview of the rapidly expanding literature on household finance (with some important exceptions) and suggest directions for future research. We begin with the theory and empirics of asset market participation and asset allocation over the life cycle. We then discuss household choices in insurance markets, trading behavior, decisions on retirement saving, and financial choices by retirees. We survey research on liabilities, including mortgage choice, refinancing, and default, and household behavior in unsecured credit markets, including credit cards and payday lending. We then connect the household to its social environment, including peer effects, cultural and hereditary factors, intra-household financial decision making, financial literacy, cognition and educational interventions. We also discuss literature on the provision and consumption of financial advice
Dynamics of the giant planets of the solar system in the gaseous proto-planetary disk and relationship to the current orbital architecture
We study the orbital evolution of the 4 giant planets of our solar system in
a gas disk. Our investigation extends the previous works by Masset and
Snellgrove (2001) and Morbidelli and Crida (2007, MC07), which focussed on the
dynamics of the Jupiter-Saturn system. The only systems that we found to reach
a steady state are those in which the planets are locked in a quadruple mean
motion resonance (i.e. each planet is in resonance with its neighbor). In total
we found 6 such configurations. For the gas disk parameters found in MC07,
these configurations are characterized by a negligible migration rate. After
the disappearance of the gas, and in absence of planetesimals, only two of
these six configurations (the least compact ones) are stable for a time of
hundreds of millions of years or more. The others become unstable on a
timescale of a few My. Our preliminary simulations show that, when a
planetesimal disk is added beyond the orbit of the outermost planet, the
planets can evolve from the most stable of these configurations to their
current orbits in a fashion qualitatively similar to that described in Tsiganis
