Existence of a multiplicative basis for a finitely spaced module over an aggregate

By [R. Bautista, P. Gabriel, A.V Roiter., L. Salmeron, Representation-finite algebras and multiplicative basis. Invent. Math. 81 (1985) 217-285.], a finite-dimensional algebra having finitely many isoclasses of indecomposable representations admits a multiplicative basis. In Sections 4.10-4.12 of [P. Gabriel, A. V. Roiter, Representations of finite-dimensional algebras. Encyclopaedia of Math. Sci., vol. 73, Algebra 8, Springer-Verlag, 1992] an analogous hypothesis was formulated for finitely spaced modules over an aggregate. We prove this conjecture.Comment: 17 page

Macroscopic Observables Detecting Genuine Multipartite Entanglement and Partial Inseparability in Many-Body Systems

We show a general approach for detecting genuine multipartite entanglement (GME) and partial inseparability in many-body-systems by means of macroscopic observables (such as the energy) only. We show that the obtained criteria, the "GME gap" and "the k-entanglement gap", detect large areas of genuine multipartite entanglement and partial entanglement in typical many body states, which are not detected by other criteria. As genuine multipartite entanglement is a necessary property for several quantum information theoretic applications such as e.g. secret sharing or certain kinds of quantum computation, our methods can be used to select or design appropriate condensed matter systems.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, published version, title extende

New records of moths (Insecta, Lepidoptera) from urban gardens on Terceira Island with new data on recently introduced species to the Azores

The urban Duque da Terceira Garden, in the main town of Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira, Azores), was investigated to describe the species composition of moths (Insecta, Lepidoptera). Moths were sampled with two methods: SLAM traps (between April and September 2017) and light trapping (two sessions in the summer of 2017). A total of 42 taxa were sampled with the addition of 19 new records for Duque da Terceira Garden, five of which were also new records for Terceira Island. The five species recorded as new for Terceira were subjected to an exhaustive taxonomic analysis. In addition, we revised the colonization status of some species. Our results show that urban gardens may help the establishment of exotic species and that it is necessary to monitor and control how these species established in urban environments.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Manipulation of single-photon states encoded in transverse spatial modes: possible and impossible tasks

    Get PDF
Controlled generation and manipulation of photon states encoded in their spatial degrees of freedom is a crucial ingredient in many quantum information tasks exploiting higher-than-two dimensional encoding. Here, we prove the impossibility to arbitrarily modify dd-level state superpositions (quddits) for d>2d>2, encoded in the transverse modes of light, with optical components associated to the group of symplectic transforms (Gaussian operations). Surprisingly, we also provide an explicit construction of how non-Gaussian operations acting on mode subspaces do enable to overcome the limit d=2d=2. In addition, this set of operations realizes the full SU(3) algebra.Comment: Published in PR

Spin and Orbital angular momentum propagation in anisotropic media: theory

This paper is devoted to study the propagation of light beams carrying orbital angular momentum in optically anisotropic media. We first review some properties of homogeneous anisotropic media, and describe how the paraxial formalism is modified in order to proceed with a new approach dealing with a general setting of paraxial propagation along uniaxial inhomogeneous media. This approach is suitable for describing the space-variant-optical-axis phase plates

Multi-Partite Entanglement Inequalities via Spin Vector Geometry

We introduce inequalities for multi-partite entanglement, derived from the geometry of spin vectors. The criteria are constructed iteratively from cross and dot products between the spins of individual subsystems, each of which may have arbitrary dimension. For qubit ensembles the maximum violation for our inequalities is larger than that for the Mermin-Klyshko Bell inequalities, and the maximally violating states are different from Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states. Our inequalities are violated by certain bound entangled states for which no Bell-type violation has yet been found.Comment: 4 pages, 2 tables, 1 figure. This paper is part of a series that provides the details behind the Bureau of Economic Analysis's (BEA) satellite account on research and development (R&D) activity. It describes the data and experimental methodology used to create the GDP-by-Industry component of the satellite account for thirteen R&D-intensive industries and an aggregation of all other for-profit industries.

Predicting extinctions on oceanic islands: arthropods and bryophytes
