CP Violation in Fermion Pair Decays of Neutral Boson Particles

We study CP violation in fermion pair decays of neutral boson particles with spin 0 or 1. We study a new asymmetry to measure CP violation in Ī·,KLā†’Ī¼+Ī¼āˆ’\eta, K_L \rightarrow \mu^+\mu^- decays and discuss the possibility of measuring it experimentally. For the spin-1 particles case, we study CP violation in the decays of J/ĻˆJ/\psi to SU(3)SU(3) octet baryon pairs. We show that these decays can be used to put stringent constraints on the electric dipole moments of Ī›\Lambda, Ī£\Sigma and Īž\Xi.Comment: 14p, OZ-93/22, UM-93/89, OITS 51

Individualism-collectivism and interpersonal memory guidance of attention

    Get PDF
Recently it has been shown that the allocation of attention by a participant in a visual search task can be affected by memory items that have to be maintained by a co-actor, when similar tasks are jointly engaged by dyads (He, Lever, & Humphreys, 2011). In the present study we examined the contribution of individualism-collectivism to this ā€˜interpersonal memory guidanceā€™ effect. Actors performed visual search while a preview image was either held by the critical participant, held by a co-actor or was irrelevant to either participant. Attention during search was attracted to stimuli that matched the contents of the co-actorā€™s memory. This interpersonal effect correlated with the collectivism scores, and was enhanced by priming with a collectivistic scenario. The dimensions of individualism, however, did not contribute to performance. These data suggest that collectivism, but not individualism, modulates interpersonal influences on memory and attention in joint action

A cusp electron gun for millimeter wave gyrodevices

    Get PDF
The experimental results of a thermionic cusp electron gun, to drive millimeter and submillimeter wave harmonic gyrodevices, are reported in this paper. Using a "smooth" magnetic field reversal formed by two coils this gun generated an annular-shaped, axis-encircling electron beam with 1.5 A current, and an adjustable velocity ratio alpha of up to 1.56 at a beam voltage of 40 kV. The beam cross-sectional shape and transported beam current were measured by a witness plate technique and Faraday cup, respectively. These measured results were found to be in excellent agreement with the simulated results using the three-dimensional code MAGIC

An optimized analytical method for the simultaneous detection of iodoform, iodoacetic acid, and other trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids in drinking water

    Get PDF
An optimized method is presented using liquid-liquid extraction and derivatization for the extraction of iodoacetic acid (IAA) and other haloacetic acids (HAA9) and direct extraction of iodoform (IF) and other trihalomethanes (THM4) from drinking water, followed by detection by gas chromatography with electron capture detection (GC-ECD). A Doehlert experimental design was performed to determine the optimum conditions for the five most significant factors in the derivatization step: namely, the volume and concentration of acidic methanol (optimized values ā€Š=ā€Š15%, 1 mL), the volume and concentration of Na2SO4 solution (129 g/L, 8.5 mL), and the volume of saturated NaHCO3 solution (1 mL). Also, derivatization time and temperature were optimized by a two-variable Doehlert design, resulting in the following optimized parameters: an extraction time of 11 minutes for IF and THM4 and 14 minutes for IAA and HAA9; mass of anhydrous Na2SO4 of 4 g for IF and THM4 and 16 g for IAA and HAA9; derivatization time of 160 min and temperature at 40Ā°C. Under optimal conditions, the optimized procedure achieves excellent linearity (R2 ranges 0.9990ā€“0.9998), low detection limits (0.0008ā€“0.2 Āµg/L), low quantification limits (0.008ā€“0.4 Āµg/L), and good recovery (86.6%ā€“106.3%). Intra- and inter-day precision were less than 8.9% and 8.8%, respectively. The method was validated by applying it to the analysis of raw, flocculated, settled, and finished waters collected from a water treatment plant in China

A covariant entropy conjecture on cosmological dynamical horizon

We here propose a covariant entropy conjecture on cosmological dynamical horizon. After the formulation of our conjecture, we test its validity in adiabatically expanding universes with open, flat and closed spatial geometry, where our conjecture can also be viewed as a cosmological version of the generalized second law of thermodynamics in some sense.Comment: JHEP style, 9 pages, 1 figure, typos corrected, accepted for publication in JHE

Global Entanglement for Multipartite Quantum States

Based on the residual entanglement [9] (Phys. Rev. A \textbf{71}, 044301 (2005)), we present the global entanglement for a multipartite quantum state. The measure is shown to be also obtained by the bipartite partitions of the multipartite state. The distinct characteristic of the global entanglement is that it consists of the sum of different entanglement contributions. The measure can provide sufficient and necessary condition of fully separability for pure states and be conveniently extended to mixed states by minimizing the convex hull. To test the sufficiency of the measure for mixed states, we evaluate the global entanglement of bound entangled states. The properties of the measure discussed finally show the global entanglement is an entanglement monotone.Comment: 6 page
