    INCIDENCE OF SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTIONS: LOCAL STUDY IN UKRAINE

    Introduction.The structure of incidence of sexually transmitted infections is changing constantly. Information on such changes supports correct planning of clinical and diagnostic activities of institutions providing specialized medical care by qualified specialists.Objective:to investigate the prevalence of sexually transmitted infections with pathogens clinically significant to the genitourinary system in Ukraine and at the local level.Materials and methods. Polymerase chain reaction was used to test the biological material obtained from the genitourinary clinical specimens from subjects with sexually transmitted infections, who underwent clinical and laboratory examinations in Oleksandrivsk Clinical Hospital (Kyiv, Ukraine) for Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Trichomonas vaginalis, Human papillomavirus, and Neisseria gonorrhoea. During 2017, 607 subjects of both genders, including 295 (48.6%) females and 312 (51.4%) males, were examined. Their mean age was 32±3.5.Findings. Chlamydia trachomatis was found in 159 (26.2%) of 607 examined subjects – 85 males and 74 females. Mycoplasma hominis was found in 122 of 585 (21.1%) examined subjects – 64 males and 58 females. Mycoplasma genitalium, respectively, in 17 (6.62%) of 258 subjects – 6 males and 11 females. Ureaplasma urealyticum was found in the largest number of subjects (305, i.e. in 48.77% of 601 examined subjects) – 157 males and 148 females. Trichomonas vaginalis was found in 28 (5.23%) of 535 subjects – 15 males and 13 females. Human papillomavirus was found in 158 of 297 (53.2%) examined subjects – 88 males and 70 females. Neisseria gonorrhea was found in 33 of 297 (8.45%) subjects – 8 males and 25 females.Conclusions. As suggested by the local study of the sexually transmitted infections incidence in Ukraine, the most clinically significant for the genitourinary system are Human papillomavirus (53.2%), Ureaplasma urealyticum (48.77%), Chlamydia trachomatis (26.2%) and Mycoplasma hominis (21.1%). Therefore, tests for these pathogens in the specified region is currently the most appropriate during diagnostic examinations and counselling of subjects with genitourinary infections.Introduction.The structure of incidence of sexually transmitted infections is changing constantly.     Evaluation of Moisture Transfer to Improve the Conservation of Tiles Finishing Facades

    The research of methodologies and tools to improve the durability of building components has the aim to find out the strategies to increase the service life, minimizing the environmental impacts. The paper refers on clinker facades, especially after the repairs of mortars due to severe damages. The authors achieved on-site investigations on a prominent study case in Leonardo Campus, at Politecnico di Milano, and laboratory tests to study the interaction between moisture and cement mortars, the decay effects, and the protective treatments to improve the mortar durability. The research sharpens the methods for the evaluation of water absorption and moisture transfer in external building components and proposes possible strategies of intervention. The methodology focuses on the characterization of the water behavior in mortars by different tests, the experiments in laboratory on mortars samples, to study the hygroscopic and capillarity absorption properties, and on site, through visual analysis and nondestructive techniques. The researchers studied a water-repellent protective treatment to apply on the finishing surface and evaluated it in terms of water-repellent efficacy, compatibility with the substrate, vapor permeability, and color stability. The investigations provide input data, useful for simulating the moisture transfer, validating the experimentations, and modeling the physical mechanisms, which occur on the façade.     The evolution of sexually transmitted infections in the Ukraine

    Objectives: To evaluate trends in the national and regional reporting of syphilis, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, genital herpes, trichomoniasis, and HIV in Ukraine. Methods: Annual notification rates of infection per 10(5) population in three regions of Ukraine—Donetsk, Mikolaiv, Chernivtsi—and also among children, adolescents, and pregnant women were used as indicators for the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in the Ukraine from 1994 to 2000. The estimates were based on a review of medical literature, reported data from STD clinics, and local epidemiological surveys. An analysis of the trends was made. Results: The notification rate of trichomoniasis rose from 284.3 in 1997 to 330.8 in 2000. The same for syphilis was 68.7 per 100 000 population in 1994 peaked in 1996 with 150.9 falling to 91.5 in 2000. The reported incidence of gonorrhoea has been falling recently to 52.7/10(5) in 2000 (a 104.6% decrease since 1994). Chlamydia notification rates, however, rose 2.4-fold between 1995 and 2000 (16.1/10(5) to 54.2/10(5)). In the same period there was a 218% increase the reported incidence of genital herpes. STIs are more common in the eastern industrial regions. In the period 1994–7 there was a dramatic 179-fold increase in the prevalence of HIV/AIDS which has plateaued in subsequent years. By January 2001 a total of 36 600 cases of HIV infection (including 2040 people with AIDS) have been reported. The proportion of HIV acquired through injecting drug use is falling (72.7% in 1997 to 54.2% in 2000) in relation to that acquired through sexual contact. Conclusions: STIs and HIV are a common cause of morbidity in Ukraine
