Multi-scale Modeling Approach to Acoustic Emission during Plastic Deformation
We address the long standing problem of the origin of acoustic emission
commonly observed during plastic deformation. We propose a frame-work to deal
with the widely separated time scales of collective dislocation dynamics and
elastic degrees of freedom to explain the nature of acoustic emission observed
during the Portevin-Le Chatelier effect. The Ananthakrishna model is used as it
explains most generic features of the phenomenon. Our results show that while
acoustic emission bursts correlated with stress drops are well separated for
the type C serrations, these bursts merge to form nearly continuous acoustic
signals with overriding bursts for the propagating type A bands.Comment: 4 pages, 6 figure
Correlation between stick-slip frictional sliding and charge transfer
A decade ago, Budakian and Putterman (Phys. Rev. Lett., {\bf 85}, 1000
(2000)) ascribed friction to the formation of bonds arising from contact
charging when a gold tip of a surface force apparatus was dragged on
polymethylmethacrylate surface. We propose a stick-slip model that captures the
observed correlation between stick-slip events and charge transfer, and the
lack of dependence of the scale factor connecting the force jumps and charge
transfer on normal load. Here, stick-slip dynamics arises as a competition
between the visco-elastic and plastic deformation time scales and that due to
the pull speed with contact charging playing a minor role. Our model provides
an alternate basis for explaining most experimental results without ascribing

Hidden Order in Crackling Noise during Peeling of an Adhesive Tape
We address the long standing problem of recovering dynamical information from
noisy acoustic emission signals arising from peeling of an adhesive tape
subject to constant traction velocity. Using phase space reconstruction
procedure we demonstrate the deterministic chaotic dynamics by establishing the
existence of correlation dimension as also a positive Lyapunov exponent in a
mid range of traction velocities. The results are explained on the basis of the
model that also emphasizes the deterministic origin of acoustic emission by

This study suggests the Optimized Route Selection via Red Imported Fire Ants (RIFA) Strategy as a way to improve on-demand source routing systems. Predicting Route Failure and energy Utilization is used to pick the path during the routing phase. Proposed work assess the results of the comparisons based on performance parameters like as energy usage, packet delivery rate (PDR), and end-to-end (E2E) delay. The outcome demonstrates that the proposed strategy is preferable and increases network lifetime while lowering node energy consumption and typical E2E delay under the majority of network performance measures and factors
Beyond Breathless: Unravelling The Enigma Of Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformations
Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs) are abnormal connections between the pulmonary arteries and veins, leading to a direct shunting of blood without passing through the normal capillary bed. These AVMs can be associated with a rare genetic disorder called Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT), also known as Osler-Weber-Rendu syndrome. HHT is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by the development of fragile telangiectasias in various organs, including the skin and mucous membranes. These telangiectasias are prone to bleeding, leading to recurrent nosebleeds and mucocutaneous bleeding. In patients with HHT, the most common site of AVMs is in the lungs. Pulmonary AVMs can cause significant health risks due to the right-to-left shunting of blood, leading to hypoxemia and possible complications like stroke, cerebral abscesses, and heart failure

Not AvailableGlobally, maize is an important cereal food crop with the highest production and productivity. Among the biotic constraints that limit the productivity of maize, the recent invasion of fall armyworm (FAW) in India is a concern. The first line of strategy available for FAW management is to evaluate and exploit resistant genotypes for inclusion in an IPM schedule. Screening for resistant maize genotypes against FAW is in its infancy in India, considering its recent occurrence in the country. The present work attempts to optimize screening techniques suited to Indian conditions, which involve the description of leaf damage rating (LDR) by comparing injury levels among maize genotypes and to validate the result obtained from the optimized screening technique by identification of lines potentially resistant to FAW under artificial infestation. Exposure to 20 neonate FAW larvae at the V 5 phenological stage coupled with the adoption of LDR on a 1–9 scale aided in preliminary characterize maize rize maize genotypes as potentially resistant, moderately resistant, and susceptible. The LDR varies with genotype, neonate counts, and days after infestation. The genotypes, viz., DMRE 63, DML-163-1, CML 71, CML 141, CML 337, CML 346, and wild ancestor Zea mays ssp. parviglumis recorded lower LDR ratings against FAW and can be exploited for resistance breeding in maize.ICAR-NAS
