    Reversible Light-Induced Dimerization of Secondary Face Azobenzene-Functionalized β-Cyclodextrin Derivatives

    β-cyclodextrin (βCyD) derivatives equipped with aromatic appendages at the secondary face exhibit tailorable self-assembling capabilities. The aromatic modules can participate in inclusion phenomena and/or aromatic-aromatic interactions. Supramolecular species can thus form that, at their turn, can engage in further co-assembling with third components in a highly regulated manner; the design of nonviral gene delivery systems is an illustrative example. Endowing such systems with stimuli responsiveness while keeping diastereomeric purity and a low synthetic effort is a highly wanted advancement. Here, we show that an azobenzene moiety can be “clicked” to a single secondary O-2 position of βCyD affording 1,2,3-triazole-linked βCyD-azobenzene derivatives that undergo reversible light-controlled self-organization into dimers where the monomer components face their secondary rims. Their photoswitching and supramolecular properties have been thoroughly characterized by UV-vis absorption, induced circular dichroism, nuclear magnetic resonance, and computational techniques. As model processes, the formation of inclusion complexes between a water-soluble triazolylazobenzene derivative and βCyD as well as the assembly of native βCyD/βCyD-azobenzene derivative heterodimers have been investigated in parallel. The stability of the host-guest supramolecules has been challenged against the competitor guest adamantylamine and the decrease of the medium polarity using methanol-water mixtures. The collective data support that the E-configured βCyD-azobenzene derivatives, in aqueous solution, form dimers stabilized by the interplay of aromatic-aromatic and aromatic-βCyD cavity interactions after partial reciprocal inclusion. Total effort of the Spanish fleet in 2018 was 1,082 fishing days. In 2018, IEO scientific observers were on board 279 fishing days that it means 26 % of the Spanish total effort. All length, age and biological information presented in this paper is based on sampling carried out by IEO scientific observers.     The objective of this study was to carry out a bromatological and physicochemical analysis of local annatto seeds and a commercial pasteObjective: to carry out a bromatological and physicochemical analysis of local annatto seeds and a commercialpaste.Materials and Methods: local annatto seeds to which a physicochemical analysis was carried out whereash, humidity (weight difference), dry matter, proteins were determined. ADF and NDF, fat, and in addition,bromatological analysis was carried out on the samples and the commercial pasta.Results: sample M3 (dark heart-shaped annatto without filaments) presented the highest values. The bixincontent was recorded with 4.09% in sample M2 (heart-shaped red annatto without filaments) and thecommercial paste was the lowest with 0.56%.Limitations and Implications of the study: the importance of performing the bromatological and physicalchemicalanalysis of annatto seeds of local genotypes determined which of the local samples and the commercialpaste are the ones that contain the greatest amount of bixin.Findings and Conclusions: Sample M3 (dark heart-shaped annatto without filaments) presented the highestvalues. The highest bixin content was found in the smooth heart-red variety and the lowest value in thecommercial pasta

The split of catches and effort between the different gears in this Report are based on information from NAFO observers on board. In 2015 NAFO observers information from 1,272 days was available while total effort of the Spanish fleet in NAFO Regulatory Area was 1,317 days (around 97% coverage). In addition to NAFO observers, IEO scientific observers were on board 320 fishing days that it means 24 % of the Spanish total effort.     Observation of two excited Bc+ states and measurement of the Bc+ (2S) mass in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV

    CMS Collaboration: et al.Signals consistent with the Bc+(2S) and Bc∗+(2S) states are observed in proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV, in an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 143 fb-1, collected by the CMS experiment during the 2015-2018 LHC running periods. These excited bc states are observed in the Bc+π+π- invariant mass spectrum, with the ground state Bc+ reconstructed through its decay to J/ψπ+. The two states are reconstructed as two well-resolved peaks, separated in mass by 29.1±1.5(stat)±0.7(syst) MeV. The observation of two peaks, rather than one, is established with a significance exceeding five standard deviations. The mass of the Bc+(2S) meson is measured to be 6871.0±1.2(stat)±0.8(syst)±0.8(Bc+) MeV, where the last term corresponds to the uncertainty in the world-average Bc+ mass

    Search for supersymmetry in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV in final states with jets and missing transverse momentum

    Results are reported from a search for supersymmetric particles in the final state with multiple jets and large missing transverse momentum. The search uses a sample of proton-proton collisions at s = 13 TeV collected with the CMS detector in 2016–2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb, representing essentially the full LHC Run 2 data sample. The analysis is performed in a four-dimensional search region defined in terms of the number of jets, the number of tagged bottom quark jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta, and the magnitude of the vector sum of jet transverse momenta. No significant excess in the event yield is observed relative to the expected background contributions from standard model processes. Limits on the pair production of gluinos and squarks are obtained in the framework of simplified models for supersymmetric particle production and decay processes. Assuming the lightest supersymmetric particle to be a neutralino, lower limits on the gluino mass as large as 2000 to 2310 GeV are obtained at 95% confidence level, while lower limits on the squark mass as large as 1190 to 1630 GeV are obtained, depending on the production scenario.Individuals have received support from the Marie-Curie program and the European Research Council and Horizon 2020 Grant, contract No. 675440 (European Union); the Leventis Foundation; the A.P.     Observation of single top quark production in association with a Z Boson in proton-proton collisions at √s =13 TeV

    CMS Collaboration: et al.The observation of single top quark production in association with a Z boson and a quark (tZq) is reported. Events from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV containing three charged leptons (either electrons or muons) and at least two jets are analyzed. The data were collected with the CMS detector in 2016 and 2017 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 77.4fb-1. The increased integrated luminosity, a multivariate lepton identification, and a redesigned analysis strategy improve significantly the sensitivity of the analysis compared to previous searches for tZq production. The tZq signal is observed with a significance well over 5 standard deviations. The measured tZq production cross section is σ(pp→tZq→t?+?-q)=111±13(stat)-9+11(syst) fb, for dilepton invariant masses above 30 GeV, in agreement with the standard model expectation

    Search for a W' boson decaying to a τ lepton and a neutrino in proton-proton collisions at s=13TeV

    A search for a new high-mass resonance decaying to a τlepton and a neutrino is reported. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC at √s=13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb−1. The search utilizes hadronically decaying τleptons. No excess in the event yield is observed at high transverse masses of the τand missing transverse momentum. An interpretation of results within the sequential standard model excludes W′boson masses below 4.0 TeV at 95% confidence level. Existing limits are also improved on models in which the W′boson decays preferentially to fermions of the third generation. Heavy W′bosons with masses less than 1.7–3.9 TeV, depending on the coupling in the non-universal G(221) model, are excluded at 95% confidence level.
