The relationship of anger expression to health problems among black americans in a national survey

This study examined the relationship between anger expression, other psychosocial measures, and health problems in a nationally representative, cross-sectional sample of 1277 black adults. Subjects indicating a high level of outwardly expressed anger during a period in which they experienced a severe personal problem had a significantly higher number of health problems than their counterparts who expressed low and moderate levels of anger. Anger expression also significantly interacted with a measure of life strain (employment status) to predict health problems. Blacks who were unemployed were more likely to have a higher number of health problems if anger was expressed outwardly at a high level. The relationship was found to be independent of age, gender, urbanicity, smoking, and drinking problems. The overall pattern of the findings suggests that blacks who are at increased risk for health problems may be identified by how often anger is experienced and expressed during periods of emotional distress.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/44809/1/10865_2004_Article_BF00846419.pd

The relation between anger coping strategies, anger mood and somatic complaints in children and adolescents

Attempts to explain the experience of somatic complaints among children and adolescents suggest that they may in part result from the influence of particular strategies for coping with anger on the longevity of negative emotions. To explore these relationships British (n = 393) and Dutch (n = 299) children completed a modified version of the Behavioral Anger Response Questionnaire (BARQ), and two additional questionnaires assessing anger mood and somatic complaints. A hierarchical regression analysis showed that for both the UK and Dutch samples two coping styles, Social support-seeking and Rumination, made a significant contribution to somatic complaints, over and above the variance explained by anger mood. A tendency to repeatedly think or talk about an angering event as a way of coping seems to underlie the observed negative health effects. In addition, tentative support is given for a broader range of strategies to cope with anger than just the traditionally studied anger-out and anger-in styles. © 2007 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC

This study is to research how the intercourse of culture that existed in the Rantau Sakti village Tambusai Utara District and Rokan Hulu Regent intertribal nasions of Java, Medan Java, Batak, Minang, and Melayu. Theres a launching factors and hindrance factors too in culture intercourse. The data tekhnic collection with the koesioner, interview, and documentation. And the analisys of data is descriptive where the data presented in the form of a diagrams, percentages, pictures, and explanations. The research results show that The lives of the multicultural that could lead to the occurrence of intercourse of culture through assimilation, acculturation, and amalgamation. The intercourse of culture through three aspects of it can run well theres happened in Rantau Sakti village on seven principles like language, system of knowledge , a social organization , celebration life and technologi, means of subsistence, religion, and art . There is also intercourse of culture with amalgamation culture that leads to assimilation and acculturation. Its launching factor are the attitude of tolerance and open, in common religion, and the same occasion in the economic field. While the hindrance factor are differences of religion and stereotype (ethnic prejudice). Those two factors each happened to the process of changing culture with assimilation, acculturation, and amalgamation That leads to a positive thing.Keyword: The Culture Intercourse, Inter-ethnic

Non-nociceptive roles of opioids in the CNS: opioids' effects on neurogenesis, learning, memory and affect.

Mortality due to opioid use has grown to the point where, for the first time in history, opioid-related deaths exceed those caused by car accidents in many states in the United States. Changes in the prescribing of opioids for pain and the illicit use of fentanyl (and derivatives) have contributed to the current epidemic. Less known is the impact of opioids on hippocampal neurogenesis, the functional manipulation of which may improve the deleterious effects of opioid use. We provide new insights into how the dysregulation of neurogenesis by opioids can modify learning and affect, mood and emotions, processes that have been well accepted to motivate addictive behaviours

Neue Verfahren und Methoden zur Sanierung von Altlasten - am Beispiel der Deponie Georgswerder, Hamburg. T. 4: Verfestigungsverfahren fuer Sonderabfaelle Schlussbericht

For the rehabilitation of the Hamburg-Georgswerder landfill, the oil phases of the former oil ponds (pond oil) and those phases seeping out of the embankment (seepage oil) represent a major problem because of the high content of organic pollutants (e.g. 2,3,7,8-TCDD). As a rehabilitation measure for pond and seepage oil, solidification is a possible technique which was investigated in this project. A variety of additives was tested including inorganic and organic binders, fillers and, in some experiments, also surfactants. The solidified materials were tested for mechanical stability using different standard procedures. As a central aspect of this study, different elution testing procedures are compared and discussed. The results of these tests demonstrate that model oil can be absorbed by brown coal dust in such a way as to almost completely inhibit volatile oil constitutents and other toxic organic pollutants from being mobilized. This is also evident from sorption/desorption equilibria. The results indicate that besides hydrophobic interactions other bonding mechanisms (e.g. chemical forces) also become effective. The solidified material was of an earth-like texture and satisfied the requirements for dumping. Unlike organic solids, inorganic fillers or binders were in no case able to yield a satisfying incorporation and immobilization of organic pollutants.
