Reduction of the Casimir force using aerogels
By using silicon oxide based aerogels we show numerically that the Casimir
force can be reduced several orders of magnitude, making its effect negligible
in nanodevices. This decrease in the Casimir force is also present even when
the aerogels are deposited on metallic substrates. To calculate the Casimir
force we model the dielectric function of silicon oxide aerogels using an
effective medium dielectric function such as the Clausius-Mossotti
approximation. The results show that both the porosity of the aerogel and its
thickness can be use as control parameters to reduce the magnitude of the

THE INFLUENCE OF COMPUTER-ASSISTED SURGERY ON CLINICAL AND RADIOGRAPHIC OUTCOMES OF PERIАRTICULAR FEMUR AND TIBIA OSTEOTOMIES IN OSTEOARTHRITIC PATIENTS (REVIEW)
Nowadays the clinical application of digital technologies became a growing trend at every stage of orthopedic patient treatment: from diagnostic procedures and pre-operative planning to intra-operative control of surgical manipulations and evaluation of final results later. The aim of thi sresearch was to analyze the studies dedicated to application of computer-assisted surgery (CAS) for femur and tibial osteotomies in patients with gonarthrosis. The hypothesis was that CAS improves the precision of leg alignment correction in frontal and sagittal planes that positively influencing both functional result of treatment and longevity of clinical effect. The PubMed, PubMedCentral, GoogleScholar and eLIBRARY searched for relevant studies using following key words: knee, osteoarthritis, gonarthrosis, osteotomy, CAS, navigation and its russian analogs. The majority of publications favored CAS in comparison to traditional osteotomy techniques both for leg alignment and tibial slope control. Despite generally researchers paid less attention to functional results after CASosteotomies than to precision of surgical manipulations it is possible of confirm that there is strong tendency to better knee scores after navigation while the difference is not always statistically significant. Rare publications dedicated to long term results favor CAS: 10 years survival rate is 97% that correspond to outcomes of modern total knee arthroplasty. Hence, the current literature confirms the hypothesis of our study and don’t reveal increase of complications rate associated with CAS
Selfsimilarity and growth in Birkhoff sums for the golden rotation
We study Birkhoff sums S(k,a) = g(a)+g(2a)+...+g(ka) at the golden mean
rotation number a with periodic continued fraction approximations p(n)/q(n),
where g(x) = log(2-2 cos(2 pi x). The summation of such quantities with
logarithmic singularity is motivated by critical KAM phenomena. We relate the
boundedness of log- averaged Birkhoff sums S(k,a)/log(k) and the convergence of
S(q(n),a) with the existence of an experimentally established limit function
f(x) = lim S([x q(n)])(p(n+1)/q(n+1))-S([x q(n)])(p(n)/q(n)) for n to infinity
on the interval [0,1]. The function f satisfies a functional equation f(ax) +

Optical, morphological and photocatalytic properties of biobased tractable films of chitosan/donor-acceptor polymer blends
Biobased tractable films consisting of blends of chitosan (CS) with polymer bearing carbazole derivatives as
pendant groups and fluorene-thiophene as donor-acceptor units (referred to as DA) were prepared, and their
optical, morphological and photocatalytic properties were studied. DA was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (THF)
and mixed with an acidified aqueous solution containing chitosan to obtain chitosan/DA (CS/DA) films by
solution casting. The fabricated biobased films were characterized using spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR and
UV–vis), thermogravimetry, mechanical assays, contact angle analysis, and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The
effects of varying DA compositions and the results of exposure to visible-light irradiation of the films were also
analyzed. The results indicated the existence of interactions between chitosan and DA and a potentially profitable
light-driven response of these biobased films. This behavior was reflected in the optical, topographical,
and contact angle properties of the films, which exhibited different characteristics before and after visible-light
exposure. Finally, the photocatalytic performance of the biobased films was tested via the decomposition of
methyl orange (MO), as a reaction model system. Our results revealed a significant photocatalytic activity
(according to biobased film composition, approximately 64 % and 87 % of methyl orange were degraded under
continuous visible-light irradiation for 120 min) of the films which is attributed to the combined presence and
synergetic effects of the film-forming ability of chitosan and the photoproperties of DA
