Analysis of distortion data from TF30-P-3 mixed compression inlet test
A program was conducted to reduce and analyze inlet and engine data obtained during testing of a TF30-P-3 engine operating behind a mixed compression inlet. Previously developed distortion analysis techniques were applied to the data to assist in the development of a new distortion methodology. Instantaneous distortion techniques were refined as part of the distortion methodology development. A technique for estimating maximum levels of instantaneous distortion from steady state and average turbulence data was also developed as part of the program
Resonant enhancements of high-order harmonic generation
Solving the one-dimensional time-dependent Schr\"odinger equation for simple
model potentials, we investigate resonance-enhanced high-order harmonic
generation, with emphasis on the physical mechanism of the enhancement. By
truncating a long-range potential, we investigate the significance of the
long-range tail, the Rydberg series, and the existence of highly excited states
for the enhancements in question. We conclude that the channel closings typical
of a short-range or zero-range potential are capable of generating essentially
the same effects.Comment: 7 pages revtex, 4 figures (ps files
Simulation of Micro-Electronic FlowFET Systems
A microelectronic fluidic system has been investigated by modeling and 3D simulation of fluid flow controlled by an applied gate voltage. The simulations have helped to characterize a novel FlowFET (a fluidic Field Effect Transistor) device under fault-free conditions. The FlowFET operates by applying a voltage field from a gate electrode in the insulated side wall of a microchannel to modulate the ␣-potential at the shear plane [1]. The change in ␣-potential can be used to control both the magnitude and direction of the electroosmotic flow in the microchannel
Temperature dependence of trapped magnetic field in MgB2 bulk superconductor
Based on DC magnetization measurements, the temperature dependencies of the
trapped magnetic field have been calculated for two MgB2 samples prepared by
two different techniques: the high-pressure sintering and the hot pressing.
Experimentally measured trapped field values for the first sample coincide
remarkably well with calculated ones in the whole temperature range. This
proves, from one side, the validity of the introduced calculation approach, and
demonstrates, from another side, the great prospects of the hot pressing
technology for large scale superconducting applications of the MgB2.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, submitted to AP
Two-photon ionization of Helium studied with the multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree-Fock method
The multiconfigurational time-dependent Hartree-Fock method (MCTDHF) is
applied for simulations of the two-photon ionization of Helium. We present
results for the single- and double ionization from the groundstate for photon
energies in the non-sequential regime, and compare them to direct solutions of
the Schr\"odinger equation using the time-dependent (full) Configuration
Interaction method (TDCI). We find that the single-ionization is accurately
reproduced by MCTDHF, whereas the double ionization results correctly capture
the main trends of TDCI
An amphitropic cAMP-binding protein in yeast mitochondria
ABSTRACT: We describe the first example of a mitochondrial protein with a covalently attached phos-phatidylinositol moiety acting as a membrane anchor. The protein can be metabolically labeled with both stearic acid and inositol. The stearic acid label is removed by phospholipase D whereupon the protein with the retained inositol label is released from the membrane. This protein is a cAMP receptor of the yeast Saccharomyces cereuisiae and tightly associated with the inner mitochondrial membrane. However, it is converted into a soluble form during incubation of isolated mitochondria with Ca2+ and phospholipid (or lipid derivatives). This transition requires the action of a proteinaceous, N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive component of the intermembrane space and is accompanied by a decrease in the lipophilicity of the cAMP receptor. We propose that the component of the intermembrane space triggers the amphitropic behavior of the mitochondrial lipid-modified CAMP-binding protein through a phospholipase activity. Only in recent years specific fatty acids have been recog-nized to play important roles in the association of proteins with membranes. Both noncovalent and covalent interactions be-tween fatty acids and proteins have been reported. Among the latter are GTP-binding proteins (Molenaar et al., 1988)
Analytic Evaluation of the Decay Rate for Accelerated Proton
We evaluate the decay rate of the uniformly accelerated proton. We obtain an
analytic expression for inverse beta decay process caused by the acceleration.
We evaluate the decay rate both from the inertial frame and from the
accelerated frame where we should consider thermal radiation by Unruh effect.
We explicitly check that the decay rates obtained in both frame coincide with
each other.Comment: 11 page
