Narrative Visualization: Sharing Insights into Complex Data
This paper is a reflection on the emerging genre of narrative visualization, a creative response to the need to share complex data engagingly with the public. In it, we explain how narrative visualization offers authors the opportunity to communicate more effectively with their audience by reproducing and sharing an experience of insight similar to their own. To do so, we propose a two part model, derived from previous literature, in which insight is understood as both an experience and also the product of that experience. We then discuss how the design of narrative visualization should be informed by attempts elsewhere to track the provenance of insights and share them in a collaborative setting. Finally, we present a future direction for research that includes using EEG technology to record neurological patterns during episodes of insight experience as the basis for evaluation

Representation and matching of knowledge to design digital systems
A knowledge-based expert system is described that provides an approach to solve a problem requiring an expert with considerable domain expertise and facts about available digital hardware building blocks. To design digital hardware systems from their high level VHDL (Very High Speed Integrated Circuit Hardware Description Language) representation to their finished form, a special data representation is required. This data representation as well as the functioning of the overall system is described
Automated Array Assembly Task In-depth Study of Silicon Wafer Surface Texturizing
Several aspects of silicon wafer surface texturizing were studied. A low cost cleaning method that utilizes recycled Freon in an ultrasonic vapor degreaser to remove organic and inorganic contaminants from the surface of silicon wafers as received from silicon suppliers was investigated. The use of clean dry air and high throughout wafer batch drying techniques was shown to lower the cost of wafer drying. A two stage texturizing process was examined for suitability in large scale production. Also, an in-depth gettering study with the two stage texturizing process was performed for the enhancement of solar cell efficiency, minimization of current versus voltage curve dispersion, and improvement in process reproducibility. The 10% efficiency improvement goal was exceeded for the near term implementation of flat plate photovoltaic cost reduction

The first signs of language: Phonological development in British sign language
A total of 1018 signs in one deaf child’s naturalistic interaction with her deaf mother, between the ages 19-24 months were analysed. This study summarises regular modification processes in the phonology of the child sign’s handshape, location, movement and prosody. Firstly changes to signs were explained by the notion of phonological markedness. Secondly, the child managed her production of first signs through two universal processes: structural change and substitution. Constraints unique to the visual modality also caused sign language specific acquisition patterns, namely: more errors for handshape articulation in locations in peripheral vision, a high frequency of whole sign repetitions and feature group rather than one-to-one phoneme substitutions as in spoken language development

NLO predictions for Higgs boson pair production with full top quark mass dependence matched to parton showers
We present the first combination of NLO QCD matrix elements for di-Higgs
production, retaining the full top quark mass dependence, with a parton shower.
Results are provided within both the POWHEG-BOX and MadGraph5_aMC@NLO Monte
Carlo frameworks. We assess in detail the theoretical uncertainties and provide
differential results. We find that, as expected, the shower effects are
relatively large for observables like the transverse momentum of the Higgs
boson pair, which are sensitive to extra radiation. However, these shower
effects are still much smaller than the differences between the Born-improved
HEFT approximation and the full NLO calculation in the tails of the
distributions.Comment: replaced by published version; in addition typos corrected in

NNLO predictions for Z-boson pair production at the LHC
We present a calculation of the NNLO QCD corrections to Z-boson pair
production at hadron colliders, based on the N-jettiness method for the real
radiation parts. We discuss the size and shape of the perturbative corrections
along with their associated scale uncertainties and compare our results to
recent LHC data at TeV.Comment: 19 pages, 2 Tables, 4 figures. Version to appear in JHE
