Platelet and plasma catecholamine levels in migraine patients: evidence for a menstrual-related variability of the noradrenergic tone

    No full text
Platelet and plasma levels of catecholamines were measured by HPLC in menstrual migraine patients and controls. The luteal increase in platelet adrenaline and noradenaline was absent in menstrual migraine patients. A differential responsiveness of sympathetic nervous system or platelet (or both), linked to hormonal changes, may underlie menstrual migraine and cause predisposition of attacks in the luteal phase
