Evaluation of Packing_3D Code for Design of Variable-Depth, Bent-Chamber Acoustic Liners

Increases in the bypass ratio for commercial aircraft engines have caused the broadband fan noise component to become dominant. As a result, there is a need to develop improved acoustic liners suitable for absorption of this fan noise over a wide frequency range, preferably up to at least two octaves. Variable depth liners with bent chambers and three-dimensional geometries present one way to achieve this goal, however, they can be difficult and time-consuming to design due to their complexity and volume constraints. A packing code, called Packing3D, has been developed that automatically designs the chamber configurations of such liners once the chamber dimensions and volume constraints are known. The code uses a randomized trial and error approach to place each chamber in a representation of the liner sample, then returns a colored diagram and sufficient information for the liner sample to be fabricated. For evaluation, the code is used to design four liner samples of varying levels of complexity. These samples are tested with and without a mesh facesheet in the NASA Langley Normal Incidence Tube, and the results are compared to predictions computed in COMSOL. The results indicate that the packing code is able to quickly design samples that are predictable, achieve the desired absorption spectrum, fit the given constraints, and are able to be built. This code is flexible, lends itself to optimization, and allows samples to be designed quickly, accurately, and efficiently

In March 1963, 7 strains of influenza virus type А2 were isolated at the virological laboratory of the Higher Medical Institute - Vaгna from local inhabitants, suffering from influenza. Their etiologic signif icance in the disorders, observed in this period, was proved bу examination of the haemagglutination inhibtion test (Н.I.Т.) bу means of paired samples оfblооd sera, obtained from sick individuals as well as from those who have already suffered fгom the disease. In some оf the examined individuals а 4 аnd more fold rise in antibody titre was established. We set ourselves the task to investigate the antigenic structure of the isolated inflluenza virus stгains

An Application of ISO 5725 in Brewing Industry

2002 Mathematics Subject Classification: 62P30, 62P10.The colloidal stability is very important part of the total beer quality. The stabilized beers have to have a long shelf-life. Determination of some haze forming complexes could be very useful for prediction of beer colloidal stability. We study the repeatability and reproducibility of a method for determination of some haze forming complexes in beer. The method was tested in 10 laboratories. All of theme analyzed the same beer samples and carried out two measurements for each. Statistical evaluation of results was according ISO 5725 and previous experience. The applied ISO 5725 statistical analyzes ensured high quality and possibility of international recognition of the measurement method.Partially supported by Mathind IST-2000-26015 and by Pro-enbis GTC1-2001-43031

PAPER ELECTROPHORESIS OF SERA FROM RATS, INOCULATED WIТH INFLUENZA VIRUS ТУРЕ А2

Recently рарег electrophoresis is widely pгacticed to deteгmine the qualitative and quantitative changes in the pгotein fractions of blооd serum in animals inoculated with antigen-containing substances. In our pгevious studies an incгease was encountered of alpha-globulins in rats inoculated with influenza viгus at the expence of the albumin fraction. It was also established that the high aпtihemagglutination titгe does not always parallel with alpha-globulin increase. The present studies were initiated in order to prove whether such а regulaгity will bе obseгved also with stгains of influenza viгus isolated in 1963. These investigations are substantiated also bу the fact that strains isolated this уеаг exhibit loweг antihemagglutination titгes.Eighty medium aged аlbinо rats were used in the experimeпts and the influenza stгains isolated in Vaгna in 1963 (Panayotov, Mitov, Kaprelyan and Mitova et al.). The first group of rats included 6 subgroups of 10 rats each, inoculated with one of the influenza strains type A2 isolated in 1963. The second group comprised 10 rats from the same breeding inoculated with alantoic fluid which did not contain any influenza virus and the third group consisted of another 10 rats untreated and left under the same environmental conditions

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL, CLINICA.L AND VIROLOGICAL STUDIES ON INFLUENZA MORBIDITY RATES FOR ТНЕ PERIOD APRIL 1962 – МАY 1963 IN ТНЕ СIТУ OF VARNA

Тhe epidemic process of influenza acquires vaгious forms in its couгse: pandemics, epidemics аnd sporadic morbidity inbetween epidemics. Wе dispose of mоrе precise data оn its course in Bulgaria since 1952. Мorе scanty аrе the data which characteгize influenza epidemics in the city of Vагnа up to 1955 which is seen on Diagr. 1. From the latter it becomes evident that influenza morbidity rates in the city of Vагnа run parallel to morbidity rates in the whole country, being occasionally morе intensive - 1959, 1962. Тlie diаgrаm reveals high level for influenza morbldity rates fог the countгy and the city of Vаrnа in 1956 and аn epidemic peak in 1957, 1959 аnd 1962. Тhe epidemic peak in 1962 is due to аn influenza outbreak caused bу virus А2 which started at the end of January and continued till Магсh, the same уеаr.After the epidemics а period was established, characteгized bу а low level of influenza morbldity rates in the city of Varna. Stress should bе laid оn the fact that determination of actual levels of influenza morbidity rates inbetween epidemics is particularly difficult owing to the imperfect diagnosis and the diversity of clinical forms of influenza
